Easy to use and manageable for just about anyone.
Ive owned comparable size saws but the convince and reliability is hands down the best on the market! When it comes down to price you get what you pay for. After the last hurricane we had the city government had enough of the competitors saws and purchase over 65 stihl saws that says something! When a few dollars extra is on your mind just remember it will be a saw you invest in not buy to get you by.

    Great entry level saw
I needed a lightweight economical saw for a tree removal project. The MS 170 was perfect for this. I have only had this a month but have run it thru its paces and it has preformed well. Keep in mind that this is not a power house but a lightweight entry level saw. This is the saw I would recommend for a beginner. It is easy to start and handles almost to well. I have also had a MS 390 and a FS 90 for several years and they have always been reliable so the MS 170 was an easy choice for me.

    Good saw
Bought this for cleaning up my back yard, ended up helping cut fallen trees at neighbors, and friends houses, after hurricane Mathew 3 giant oaks, and several pine trees later no problems just a dull chain, and a tired me. And still cleaned up some small trees, saplings, and bamboo, yes bamboo in my back yard. Perfect size weight, and power for home owners there should be one in every house hold.

Meets my needs for high end home owner saw.
My needs range from tree limbing to trunk bucking. The MS251 with 18 inch bar cut through trunks up to 20" with no hesitation. It is new with new chain so it made the cutting easy I know. However it did not hesitate or lose power during the cut. The saw is light enough that topping was not fatiguing. When you're on the north side of 65, that is a major plus. All in all, the 251 has the power to do the job I need while being easy to handle

This is the best chainsaw I've ever owned.
I've had several chainsaws over the years. Back in 79 I naught a Mac 10. That was a good saw. After that several other saws but they all gave me trouble. This saw starts every time even after not using it for several months. That is what I wanted and Stihl came through.

    Easy start wasn't so easy!
I already have the STIHL blower with easy start and it's great. So, when I needed a chain saw I immediately purchased the MS 180 with easy start. I could not get it started so had to take it back for some remedial training. yes, the dealer started it right up and made sure I knew how. Took it home and the next day tried again. yes, it started but not quite so easy. For some reason the chain saw does not start on the first, second, third or even forth pull. I have to use 1/2 choke to get it ... read more started after first trying full choke all the time.

    Cuts like butter
I bought this chainsaw for my home use. I selected this particular model because of the lightweight and for the quick, tool-less chain adjustment. I was able to trim my oak trees with branches diameters up to 12 inches. Super easy to start. Just make sure to set it on choke, give it a couple of pull and then set it to half choke and it'll start at the next pull or two. It doesn't come with a prime button so that doesn't pose a problem at all. I had researched on other brands and they seem to ... read more have so many toggles, buttons, this stihl only has a throttle lever and choke/run toggle.

Best little chainsaw I have yet to find.
Bought the saw 8-23-2017 just before Hurricane Harvey knocked down 6 trees in my yard and numerous large limbs. So far it has made short work of 4 of the trees and about half the limbs. The only thing scary about this saw is that it has Bigger Brothers!

Easy to start, lot's of power for a small saw!
I bought the MS-180 with easy adjust chain bar over 6 years ago. I love the saw, I gave it a work out cutting way larger trees than maybe I should have. I am on the first bar, and have replaced the chain many times as they do wear out. Just today I have noticed after i put on a new chain, that I did not have the power that I had before, I changed the air filter- which did not help. A friend check the compression, and said it should be a lot higher, so I suppose the motor needs to be rebuilt. ... read more Here is where the rubber meets the road, will it cost more to rebuild, or should I just buy another saw? Yes I would buy another, if the repair costs too much.

This is a great starter saw for some who is just starting out.
The saw is light but powerful. It is a great starter saw, as my two boys are helping with cutting and trimming.

    All I'll ever need!
I purchased just under 5 acres of land with lots of Oak and Cedar and some Pine spread throughout. After using a competitor saw for 2 weeks I purchased this saw along with the FS 130 Brushcutter and have been extremely pleased. I'm no lumberjack but this saw gets more work done than the last one in half the time!

Light weight and tons of power - very reliable
I have used this saw to cut down several trees in the 4-6inch size without issue. It has fired up every time I needed it, and ran particularly well in cold weather. I find the light weight is awesome for getting the job done. I am extremely pleased with this saw and am glad I chose to go with it. I really cannot emphasize enough how solidly built this saw is, it has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease.

Overall great saw! Very happy with puchase!
Used the saw right after I got home from purchasing it. Started with one pull and was off and running! Very reliable and the easy start is a plus! Seems very well built and reliable (as with all Stihl products I've used). The 16" bar is perfect for small trimming and cutting down medium sized trees. I decided on the MS 171 vs the MS 170 due to the upgraded features and was well worth the extra $20. Light, easy to control and enough power to get the job done.

    used it for everything
I bought this saw three months ago for a small tree cutting service I run. So far I have used this saw to cut a red oak from the top down, I have cut down about a dozen dead trees with it and often used it to limb. the saw AV is great, and the weight and power ratio are good. the saw is easily maintainable by anyone and the 14 inch bar is great for tight spaces. this saw has earned a place next to my larger saws.

    Worth every penny!
I always wanted my very own Stihl chainsaw, but due to finances, always opted for something else, regrettably. Finally, I now own a MS-250 and am so pleased with it. This is a mean chainsaw. It excels in everything I ask it to do. Get yourself one today. You will NOT be disappointed.

More than I could ask for
I purchased this saw to clear some dead trees from my lot. It performed this job with ease. The wife then decided we needed a small retaining wall and I needed to cut a couple dozen RR ties. It worked very well for this project. I cleaned the saw between uses and kept the chain sharpened. I am very pleased with how well this saw runs and how easy it is to start. I am confident I will have and use this saw for many years.

    Powerful and lightweight
I bought the MS250 to cut limbs and smaller wood from larger trunks. It works great. It is lightweight and easy to handle. It has plenty of power for the 16 inch bar I have on it. I liked the saw so much, I bought a second one that my wife uses. A very good saw for every day use.
