    Good little saw
I pushed this saw to the bar's limit and only bogged down a couple times. It will chew right through anything if the chain is sharp. I had the sprocket on the bar get clogged up with bark and chips a couple of times, but it did not take long to fix. I think this happened if it let off the throttle in mid cut. I think it is a pretty good value. Light weight and did what I needed. It could use more power at times, but if the chain is sharp it is fine. The quick chain adjuster takes a little ... read more getting use to when you use to the old style, but it works well when your gloves are off. Sometimes the gas cap is hard to get off. Nothing a pair of channel locks won't fix.

WOW this saw cuts like butter!
I am a first time user of Still and of a chainsaw. My husband has MS and is in a wheelchair so all the upkeep of our property has gone to me. We needed a new saw and decided on a Stihl. The easy strategy made it great for me, I had no problems starting or using my saw, it was so much fun.I now know why men never tell their wives how fun it is because they would never get to use their saws again. Thank you Stihl for making this awesome chainsaw.

This saw is a pleasure to run.
I own 3 Stihl Chainsaws, mainly for cutting oak firewood. I use the MS 180 C-BE at least 2/3rds of the time. I run a 14 inch bar on it and it rips while limbing, cutting up branches and cutting small to medium logs. The weight to power makes it a pleasure to use and doesn't wear me out as much as my bigger saws. My 660 still gets used as needed but the 180 can do most of what's required to fill the wood shed without the workout.

    awesome saw!
I purchased this saw this week with a 16inch bar, couldn't ask for a better saw. i don't cut trees daily, so this was the ideal choice. i had a large peacan limb fall out of the tree. it was up to about a foot in diameter and aprox. 20-25ft long. the saw handled flawlessly and didn't use much gas, or oil. Cut like a hot knife threw butter. if your just going to use a saw every once in awhile, then i highly recommend this one. no question, stihl makes the best saws out there.

Overall great saw! Very happy with puchase!
Used the saw right after I got home from purchasing it. Started with one pull and was off and running! Very reliable and the easy start is a plus! Seems very well built and reliable (as with all Stihl products I've used). The 16" bar is perfect for small trimming and cutting down medium sized trees. I decided on the MS 171 vs the MS 170 due to the upgraded features and was well worth the extra $20. Light, easy to control and enough power to get the job done.

    A "David" of a saw
OK, let me say that I have an MS361 and that is one powerful saw, but can get heavy with extended use. The 171 I use primarily for limbing, but I recently bought a vacation house and took it with me last weekend. I took down and cut up some pretty thick hard wood and this saw did it (I had a sharpened chain!). Took some time when the wood was hard, but took all I could give it. If I would have had my 361 I would have used it in several instances, but the 171 did the job. It's light, relatively ... read more quiet (I always use hearing protection, chaps, gloves etc however), and easy to use.

    Great starting feature
I first bought the straight 251 and found the high compression engine to take more muscle to start than I wanted to use. So I exchanged it for the 251 C-BE. What a relief. It works best at higher rpm's. This saw tackled 80% of clearing out big fallen trees (24" diameter) and all firewood cuts. A bigger saw could do everything but the lighter weight of the 251 keeps me cutting for longer periods. The EZ tension adjuster takes getting used to.

Some of the Best $$ I ever have spent!
I have had two other chain saws... Pretty good ones. This Stihl out works, out cuts, out performs, out everythings the others. I have ALOT of trees still to go on the property and as long as I keep it sharp it's Golden!!!

First time saw user found it fantastic. Easy to start and run, it cuts hard wood like butter.
This is my first, and probably only and last saw. I found it easy to operate, reasonably light, and it did the job I had hoped it would, cut up several dozen oak trees for firewood, in nothing flat. I was tired at the end of each of the two days it took me to do, but then I'm pretty out of shape. It seemed to run through the chain oil pretty quickly but since I have no experience to go by, it may be a normal rate. Yes I recommend this saw.

52 yo woman 21 acres with hedge tree surround, excellent saw!
As the title explains, I am a 52 yo woman and this is my first real chainsaw. I have old hedgerow surrounding my property (21 acres) and I have cut trees that are easily a 30 inch diameter on down to saplings. This saw has been wonderful, this is my second season with it. It starts easily and runs until my body says no more, today I cut for a solid 7 hours. . The chain has stretched so that I can't adjust the tension any tighter so I will be out to buy a new chain before I can continue my projects.

I needed a small saw for the light cutting work, and this fits the task at hand.
My workhorse is a Farm Boss, which is used for the heavy work. The MS 181 is a great lightweight saw used for a run of small cutting tasks. This saw idles great, reeves up smooth and quick, and cuts like a knife! Yes, it is underpowered as compared to the Stihl Farm Boss, but that is why I have the Farm Boss. The MS 181 is a very welcomed addition to my overall capability, and its several pounds lighter in weight, and it does the job well. For its size, there is plenty of power. I am quite ... read more satisfied with this purchase and recommend the saw as a lightweight saw that carries the reputation of a Stihl.

    Truly is an "Easy Start"
Fed up with my old chainsaw, that failed within hours of first using, despite my constant maintenance and adjustments, I decided that a Stihl was the direction to go, both from first hand experience with my neighbor's Stihl saw, AND from word of mouth. This saw has performed seamlessly, and it cut thru a 20" Live Oak tree like it was butter. It took less than an hour to buck the whole limb, which weighed several tons, and I didn't have to adjust the chain even once during it's break-in period.

    Excellent little saw
I owned one of these saws for about 2 years. I used it as my lightweight saw in combo with a larger 60cc saw. Crazy easy to start and once the carb was adjusted (after a little break-in period) it had pretty decent power. Note: The 211 has an adjustable carb. I'll be buying one of the 211's again for sure.

    Great saw!!!
I bought a piece of property that was logged. I had trees laying everywhere. So I new I would be cutting a lot more then the average home owner. I bought the 211 because of size and weight. It has done great. Over the winter I cut almost every day. I was cutting an average of 5.5 days out of every week from Nov. to March. This saw never let me down. The easy start is awesome. The easy chain tensioner is great and saves a lot of time. This saw is light weight and very easy to use.

Perfect size saw for most homeowners
After looking around quite a bit, I decided to go with a stihl saw. The MS 211 C-BE seemed to be the right size to power ratio for me. I've only had it one day but I have cut up a 25 ft oak log about 16 inches wide. I also cut up alot of oak branches . I've been through 3 tankfuls of gas without a hitch. The fuel and oil caps have not been any problem but we'll see in the future. So far the start-ups have been great. So far I am very happy but I will check back in a few weeks when I get more use to judge from.

    great saw
Ive used this saw two days cutting one big tree had more than enough power to do the job. Started right away. No issues for now but plan on putting it thru its paces in the years to come.

    Highly recommend this saw.
The perfect blend of power, light weight, and ease of use. Great for using around the house. First time buyer of any Stihl product. Extremely pleased.

    Great chainsaw, great value
I purchased the chainsaw at my neighborhood ACE hardware store, which is also a licensed Stihl dealer and repair shop. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful, I purchased a demo saw which probably had only a few minutes of run time on it; received a good discount and still got the warranty. The saw makes quick work of tree limbs and firewood, I've only pushed it up to about 9" limbs but still saws through them quickly. Starts fine when I follow the starting directions and I use premixed fuel&oil ... read more which is more expensive than mixing pump gas and oil, but I think it runs better and has a longer shelf life. Time will tell re durability but so far, very happy with the saw.
