    Light saw, steady workhorse
Light saw for all day cutting! Perfect for the weekend homeowner who isn't going professional. Not a power-hungry saw but keep the blade sharp and let it do its job and it does great. Great for dropping small 8" trees, limbing, and use as a tool. Anything bigger, get a 311. Always easy to start. Easy to clean and maintains. Buy this before ANY saw at Lowes, even the bigger ones. Never a fuss or too much work to maintain. Stihl: always reliability, rugged and built by great people who ... read more know who their building the saws for!

    So far so good
Used twice, both times a lot of cutting of small trees and saw performed well. Suggest to buy chain sharpening kit, as chain became dull after all of the cutting. Easy to re-sharpen chain, took less than ten minutes and chain was sharp again. Have all Stihl lawn support equipment and I am very satisfied with their performance as well.

    Ms171
Good little saw. Used it all day no problems. Starts real easy and has plenty of power for its size. Real glad I made this decision to buy this saw. I put 0.50 bar and chain on it and makes a big difference in how it cuts too. Happy trimming.

    I switched brands
A couple of my local friends recommended the Stihl saws. I have been a long time owner of another brand. After buying a new one of the old brand I was so disappointed with it I switched to Stihl. My kids can't keep up with the splitting and stacking because I cut so much wood with this Stihl saw. This is a fabulous machine and I am so happy I switched. It can get serviced locally if I have any issues. Don't forget the Stihl oil it doubles the warranty and doesn't need stabilizers.

    Great saw!
This is saw is great! I own 200 acres of woods and own a couple of Stihl professional series saws. I was looking for a smaller light weight saw that was easier to use for smaller tasks and this saw more than does that. I've used it to fell small trees creating food plots and clearing spots for tree stands and now find myself using this saw over my pro series saws to cut logs for firewood. This saw has plenty of power and I love the easy start and chain adjustor. This saw is a must have!

some issues starting and chain tightening
I admit it I am a total novice. I needed a light use chainsaw for minor tree cutting and firewood. Could not start the thing at first while following written instructions only to be told by Stihl to do something else...essentially the instructions were causing me to flood the thing. Now starts right away. Works like a charm. After many hours of use could not tighten the chain as the "easy to use feature" for chain tightening can't get to work. The plastic knob to unloosen won't unloosen and ... read more feels like it is about to snap off. If I could figure it out I think this will be a dependable saw.

Easy start and a dream to use.
I have owned Stihl chain saws for over 20 year and have a problem with my upper back and could not pull start my older chain saws both Stihl and others. After searching online I came across the MS 180 C-BE 16. So I went to Robinson Hardware in Guilderland NY. The sales person was great and we went over the easy start saws that were available and I dry started this saw. It was an answer to my dream of having a chain saw I could start with out hurting my back. After purchase we went out and ... read more started my new saw. If you can pick up a cold drink 3 times it starts. The next day I headed into the woods and ran the saw for about 4 hours and it ran very well and after it warmed up it was a 1 pull wonder.

    Truly is an "Easy Start"
Fed up with my old chainsaw, that failed within hours of first using, despite my constant maintenance and adjustments, I decided that a Stihl was the direction to go, both from first hand experience with my neighbor's Stihl saw, AND from word of mouth. This saw has performed seamlessly, and it cut thru a 20" Live Oak tree like it was butter. It took less than an hour to buck the whole limb, which weighed several tons, and I didn't have to adjust the chain even once during it's break-in period.

Typical Stihl quality, power only issue
This is a great saw at a fair price. The unit is easy to service, easy to fill, and easy to start. My only complaint would be that mine came with a 16" bar, and in hard wood, there is a bit of a power deficit. I'm sure it would work great with a 14" bar, and then it would be second to none.

    Lots of power
I have had several brands of saws. But the 251 wood boss is the best. Yes it costs a little more than the ones you get at the Home Depot or Lowes. However it has the power to get thru large trees very quick. You are not fighting the saw to do the work, The wood boss does the work for you. Great on fuel, easy to start. Don't wast your time or money on any other brand. If you need to clear out trees from your land this is the saw to get.

    good saw
Saw starts easily and runs good. This model has the chain with larger teeth and is an aggressive cutter. It may be more saw than the average homeowner needs. For just pruning 6" or smaller limbs, one of the smaller saws would work quite well and cost less than the Wood Boss. The Wood Boss is an excellent saw and I would recommend it.

Very good saw for the price
Used it to take down five good size trees over the weekend. Easy to start and I found the saw very reliable. Maintaining the saw was just as easy as other brands I own. The dealer that I purchased the saw from was great, they filled out and sent in the warrantee paper work on my behave.

    good power
I have been using professional saws for nearly 20 years. This little saw has a good amount of power for its size. Its a small saw but I have a 360 Pro and a Stihl 660 that can do the big work. I like the light weight And it cuts well. I am not personally a fan of the soft start though it works fine. It feels like an option for something to break and I just have to get used to it. It does start right up. It is quite nice for starting a saw while in a tree. Overall a good buy.

Very dependable and light for the elderly:
My 2 1/2 year old ms 180-c is still running strong. Just felt that I had better get another for back-up before winter sets in. Also I have a Farm Boss that is a hoss of a heavy duty chainsaw. It is 12 yrs old and strong as ever. Only Stihl at my farm.

    A Great Chainsaw!!!!
I've owned this chainsaw for a year and it has done everything I've asked of it. It is small enough to carry all day and not feel fatigued yet powerful enough to cut through a 20 inch caliper tree. I don't run it full speed to cut through a large tree often but in a pinch it can do it!!! I run it for 15 minutes and then let it cool off as suggested in the manual if I am cutting a large tree. it has started every time and I have used it to cut a lot of firewood this past year. .

    Great for the price
Great saw for the price. We purchased a few acres of land in Texas and were in the need for a chainsaw. My first year after using it has worked very well especially for the price I paid for a Stihl. I believe I should have gone up a few sizes as I really put this saw to work clearing out our land. I would highly recommend for the average home owner, if you have some land you may want to pay a little more and go up a few sizes

    great little saw
are you going to be taking down giant old growth trees with this saw? No. That being said, that's not what this saw is for. I purchased mine for clearing out dead pine trees on my property. this saw is lightweight which is great for all the delimbing I need to do. it had sufficient power to blow through even the thickest of my pines. I love this saw. Edwards chainsaws in starbrick pa, where I bought this is a fantastic dealer.
