    Decent saw for the money.
Starts easy, wish it did not have the autochoke. But then again its a new saw so it better start easy. Fairly light weight which is great, the build quality is what i would consider avwrage in todays market, feels a bit cheap in the hand. Feels a bit under powered with the 16" bar. If you swap it out for a 14" bar may give it a little more pep. Took 4 times adjusting the chain which was a pain before getting it settled in but that was likley due to chain stretch.

    Great Saw
To really appreciate this fine tool, you need to have a history with less expensive expense saws. This Mod 180 is far, far superior to the other brands I have owned or used. From the time you buy and use it for the first time, you realize the Quality of parts and engineering that went into making such a fine product. And by the way, the price difference between this saw and the lower priced competitiion was very little. Have you noticed when you see the news about fires in the FarWest or news ... read more of a large apartment fire...the saws being used by the professionals....STIHL ! Jim Hinson

    Great entry level saw
I needed a lightweight economical saw for a tree removal project. The MS 170 was perfect for this. I have only had this a month but have run it thru its paces and it has preformed well. Keep in mind that this is not a power house but a lightweight entry level saw. This is the saw I would recommend for a beginner. It is easy to start and handles almost to well. I have also had a MS 390 and a FS 90 for several years and they have always been reliable so the MS 170 was an easy choice for me.

More than I could ask for
I purchased this saw to clear some dead trees from my lot. It performed this job with ease. The wife then decided we needed a small retaining wall and I needed to cut a couple dozen RR ties. It worked very well for this project. I cleaned the saw between uses and kept the chain sharpened. I am very pleased with how well this saw runs and how easy it is to start. I am confident I will have and use this saw for many years.

    One month in
I bought the MS 250 right before Thanksgiving. My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said a good Chainsaw. (Two walnuts to cut). She said go get one. So I shopped on line a bit, went to 3 different stores and compared prices, and said I've got to check Stihl. I expected the price to be higher, but they were running a special, and I brought it home. Then I started reading about starting problems. So after a couple of days of thinking I'm going to just use the old Homelite until ... read more Christmas, my curious side got the best of me. The tech at the store told me what do do, and I followed the instructions he gave me. Two cranks on full choke, 1 pull on half choke, and started. I've used it a couple of times since, and I couldn't be more satisfied if it had come with a bag of candy. I don't know what could possibly be a problem with starting, knock on wood.

great power and unstoppable, restarts beautifully
Bought this saw to cut oak firewood, which we have had plenty of given the storms we have all seen building in force. Once I got used to the starting protocol of this saw I have had no instances of flooding that required compressed air to dry the internals. On my wish list might be fuel and oil level indicators but that's a nit. Saw is balanced well and not too heavy for the size trees it can slice through. Glad I picked a Stihl.this time around.

    Lightweight and easy to use
Using this saw to cut 12 inch diameter, approximate 40 feet tall trees. Cuts with ease. Use to cut trees in my younger years. This is my first STIHL and appreciate the easy start and the safety additions. Not as strong as I use to be so this small stihl is very right for me. Being a female, do not have the upper body strength so appreciate my new purchase. Also chain was easy to change.

    Practically made for me
I simply cannot find fault with this tool. It was made for softies like me. What I like best is the starter; that made worth a price premium. With a choke that holds the trigger down (so I don't have to), it's made for starting the way I've always had to: With the saw *pressed to the ground* and my good hand on the pull cord. (This is hard to do while also holding down the trigger.) The saw does the work; pulling the cord doesn't. I need a chainsaw between once and three times a year, but ... read more this year I have *tons* of firewood to harvest, so my MS 181 C's gotta get me through it.

    Works Every Time!
Bought my Stihl MS251C almost a year ago, and it is fantastic. Starts beautifully, usually with three easy pulls, and the chain tension adjuster saves me the trouble of carrying a wrench and screw driver with me, like I've had to do with all my previous non-Stihl saws - not that I have to adjust it often. I have a small farm, and it has handled everything I have thrown at it. Light weight, and runs a long time on a tank of gas. I can't say enough about how great a saw this is!

    This saw is a powerhouse.
I love the ease and power of the saw. The only downside is the weight overall. Starts up quick, cuts like a hot knife through butter. Even though it's expensive it's reliability and performance has been worth it so far.

Excellent for what is was designed for!
Easy to start and light weight for those of us who have had shoulder surgeries. If you have trouble starting it, READ the instructions or have your dealer explain to you as mine did! Power is good for its size. You can cut down large tress with it like I have but this saw was not necessarily designed for that. Love the easy chain adjustment. Looked at “the competitors” but decided on my first Stihl as tired of throwing out other saws after one or two seasons... Not to mention a local repair shop ... read more is available. Even if a little more pricey, been worth it so far.

Very Nice Saw For Around The House
While I own several commercial Stihl chain saws, I'm getting older and need a smaller saw for trimming jobs around the property. I bought the MS 180 C-BE a year ago and it has always started easily, run perfect, and given no trouble. It is my go to saw for the less than 12" jobs. I have three MS 250's that I had been using for trimming but now I have a new friend.

    Great Chainsaw
Originally had bought this saw for hinge cutting to improve deer habitat. But I find myself grabbing it more than the bigger saws For cutting firewood. Works great for tree diameters 14” and under. You could cut larger but it would just take more time. It’s light weight and has great power for a small saw I was very impressed !!!! The easy start feature is amazing and literally takes little to no effort to start. The easy chain tensioner is nice as well less tools to loose lol. I was skeptical ... read more when reading some of the reviews but I will say any doubts or concerns I had are gone. Great quality product !!!!

Easy to start, lot's of power for a small saw!
I bought the MS-180 with easy adjust chain bar over 6 years ago. I love the saw, I gave it a work out cutting way larger trees than maybe I should have. I am on the first bar, and have replaced the chain many times as they do wear out. Just today I have noticed after i put on a new chain, that I did not have the power that I had before, I changed the air filter- which did not help. A friend check the compression, and said it should be a lot higher, so I suppose the motor needs to be rebuilt. ... read more Here is where the rubber meets the road, will it cost more to rebuild, or should I just buy another saw? Yes I would buy another, if the repair costs too much.

A lot of bells and whistles on this saw.
Just bought the saw today. Had some trouble getting it started, even after reading the book. However, when it did. it cut walnut and oak like it was pine. Like the looks and feel.

    Works like a charm
.I have read the reviews and I see some bad ones but this is not my experience. It does everything I want and more. Needed a lightweight machine with reasonable horsepower for trimming, firewood and the “occasional” tree to cut down. My personal experience is easy to start, handles like a dream and very reliable. I would recommend this to anyone and if you have a bigger job then get a bigger saw. Love this one!
