    My fav lightweight saw!!
The Stihl MS180 is a fantastic value and a hard working little machine. I have two of them and use this model to cut 90% of my firewood for home heat. Some people laugh at my little saw but for me a light weight saw lets me keep working all day without user fatigue. I have several larger saws but only use them for felling large trees and for big jobs. Never under estimate the value of small, lightweight equipment. In the right hands they can do a ton of work! I do however wish Stihl would avoid ... read more some of the newer additions to this model like the easy start and tool-less chain adjustment features. In my experience they just add weight and reduce long term reliability. Keep em simple, strong, and light!!

Wish the saw had more power
I was interested in a larger saw, but the salesman talked me into the smaller one... I regret the decision. It stalls out more than it should. Love the easy start capability and the easy chain adjust feature though.

    Powerful and very reliable
This MS 180 C-BE saw is powerful beyond it's size. Plenty of power and lightweight. It has been a workhorse for over 3 years. Two things should be known about this saw: 1) On the Easy-Start system, DO NOT pull the cord as you would on a regular recoil type system. You run the risk of pulling the rope out of it's housing. This system was not designed for hard pull recoil ... hence the Easy-Start system. 2) Occasionally check the fuel line inside the gas tank for pinching of the line. As the ... read more internal fuel line become older, it tends to soften and may, at times, form a crimp and cut off the fuel supply. Two minor issues worth mentioning. Still an excellent product. And keep the saw chain sharp!

    Works , dependable
Great saw for the money. Starts every time, low maintenance if you take care of it. Burns through 12in. Post oak and elm no problem. 180, 271, and the 391 are great pieces of equipment. I have 5 other saws from different manufacturers that will probably never leave the barn again.

Great value, and a quality work course product… I recommend it highly…
This high-quality chainsaw does the job… Cut approximately 20 cords of wood over the course of three days… No problems whatsoever lots of power… Lightweight… Please follow starting instructions to the letter… Full choke one pull only! Anymore will flood the engine… When it's warm don't choke at all… I appreciate the gas cap in bar oil caps as well… Easy to use just don't force them… Got this one at Charlie's Wentzville Missouri… Doug behind the counter great help…

    So far so good
Used twice, both times a lot of cutting of small trees and saw performed well. Suggest to buy chain sharpening kit, as chain became dull after all of the cutting. Easy to re-sharpen chain, took less than ten minutes and chain was sharp again. Have all Stihl lawn support equipment and I am very satisfied with their performance as well.

    Works really well so far
I have had the saw 2 weeks and have used it 8 times. Have not had starting problems when I followed the directions. Using 91 octain regular gas. If I push the choke lever all the way down and pull till it sputters and then lift the lever up a notch it starts very nicely. It is very light and cuts very well. I am a begenning carver and the chain cuts well and tends not to kickback. I will follow up if I have any problems. The dealer service has been excellent.

Light weight and tons of power - very reliable
I have used this saw to cut down several trees in the 4-6inch size without issue. It has fired up every time I needed it, and ran particularly well in cold weather. I find the light weight is awesome for getting the job done. I am extremely pleased with this saw and am glad I chose to go with it. I really cannot emphasize enough how solidly built this saw is, it has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease.

Wow! What a saw! I have used the hound out if this saw. Bought a lake lot that was basically a forest. Had it shredded, then had to clear all that was not shredable. Me and my new saw got well acquainted. The easy start is the cat's meow. Just pull to get to the compression, then a short pull and the saw never misses first crank...other than cold starts. Have to learn the new cold start method. But once that was learned, no issues. The other highlight is the no wrench adjustment...the bee's ... read more knees. Walking through the woods and not having to stop, pull a wrench, loosen screws, adjusting chain, etc. CRAZY! Just turn two knobs and keep cutting. Plenty of power too! Nothing bad to say. I was a bit sceptical of "new" things, until I experienced it. Awesome! Great job Stihl.

Easy Starting, Nice Power, Good Balance, Relatively Light
I'm on tank 3 and so far and I've been pretty careful during the initial break in but the saw has been as advertised. The easy start feature is nice when you get use to it and the saw does a good job trimming and cutting through moderate sized timber. The tool-less quick chain tensioner is a plus as well. I looked at several competitor saws and seriously at one other major brand. The Stihl reliability, durability, service reputation and the 211s features were the final determining factor. This ... read more saw is a nice light/medium duty small saw and I'd recommend it as a home owner or ranch hand saw

    Great saw!!!
I bought a piece of property that was logged. I had trees laying everywhere. So I new I would be cutting a lot more then the average home owner. I bought the 211 because of size and weight. It has done great. Over the winter I cut almost every day. I was cutting an average of 5.5 days out of every week from Nov. to March. This saw never let me down. The easy start is awesome. The easy chain tensioner is great and saves a lot of time. This saw is light weight and very easy to use.

No complaints here other than I wish I had bought a bigger saw
This being my first saw and not knowing what to expect I started small and went easy on the wallet. I knew Stihl had a good reputation but there's always that doubt until you take the leap and make that purchase. Well let me tell you I'm very pleased and regretful at the same time. Pleased that I bought a Stihl which starts effortlessly and does exactly what it's supposed to but I regret not buying a bigger one. This saw is great on small trees and limbs but if you need to cut anything even ... read more medium size I'm afraid this saw is not going to make the cut pun intended. I've only used the saw maybe a half dozen times and I'll update the review if necessary in the coming months if anything changes.

Our little 170 has been a delight. Purchased 2014 to work the SC ice storm then the 2015 floods and now SC hurricane Matthew. From single cut 2" limbs to multi cut 30 inch trees. Excellent one man mini saw with a monster appetite. John

    MS 181 C-BE
Bought this chainsaw to use around the house, trimming magnolia trees and some other trees. I had problems starting the saw when I first got it because I didn't know how to take advantage of the Easy2Start system. I took it to the dealer I bought it from and they showed me how to start it correctly. Now that I know how to start it correctly, it is very, very simple to start. You really don't have to pull hard on the rope at all. I haven't had an issue with it. Cuts through trees like butter.

    excellent saw
I have owned this saw for about 6 months. I have used it around my yard to clean up fallen branches and maintain my trees. It's a lightweight saw that is deceptively powerful. The saw is very easy to maintain plus the quick chain adjuster and easy to start features puts it over the top. Best power tool I've purchased in years.

    Great chainsaw
Had my MS 181C for 3 yrs. and it always worked great. I cut down many trees and chopped up the trunks so I could haul them away to the burn pile. This morning I cut up a fallen hackberry and all went well until a 400 lb. tree truck fell on it as I was trying to load the tractor bucket. My great chainsaw has breathed its last. Now I'm in the market to buy another one.
