    Surprisingly Durable Lightweight Saw
Overall this saw is extremely useful, both for professionals and homeowners. Working in the tree care industry since I was 13, I have plenty of experience with saws. We purchased the stihl ms 170 in early 2015 just to see how such an affordable saw would preform. After nearly three years of almost daily use and abuse, being dropped in a stream while running, dropped 20’ out of a tree onto concrete, and probably a few more things I don’t know about, it stihl runs like new. (I did have to replace ... read more the top handle after dropping it out of a tree) Sometimes it won’t want to start, so just give it a few pulls with the throttle wide open until it starts. If you’re considering buying this saw, I would say go for it. However, If you’re absolutely new to chainsaws, take a training class or ask a friend to show you how to safely start and operate one first.

    Good saw
Bought this for cleaning up my back yard, ended up helping cut fallen trees at neighbors, and friends houses, after hurricane Mathew 3 giant oaks, and several pine trees later no problems just a dull chain, and a tired me. And still cleaned up some small trees, saplings, and bamboo, yes bamboo in my back yard. Perfect size weight, and power for home owners there should be one in every house hold.

    Awsome little saw
Bought it to cut down a couple hundred pine trees averaging 9" in diameter. Was using my big ms391, way to heavy. This saw is awsome. It'll cut my time in half at least

    power and dependability
I used my saw to top a tree in my back yard and several times I had to shut the saw off to change positions, and with the easy start I had no trouble restarting my saw.

    Truly is an "Easy Start"
Fed up with my old chainsaw, that failed within hours of first using, despite my constant maintenance and adjustments, I decided that a Stihl was the direction to go, both from first hand experience with my neighbor's Stihl saw, AND from word of mouth. This saw has performed seamlessly, and it cut thru a 20" Live Oak tree like it was butter. It took less than an hour to buck the whole limb, which weighed several tons, and I didn't have to adjust the chain even once during it's break-in period.

The MS181 C-BE has all the features I was looking for.
I am very pleased with this saw, I turned 71 this last week, so when they say it starts like a dream and runs like a champ, I'm here to tell you it really does, and it cuts like crazy. The 5 star service I got from Ace Hardware was great, they put oil and gas in it, and took it outside and started it, gave me a full demo on the saw and then did all my paper work, I was impressed. Looking forward to using this saw as much as I can.

Light weight and tons of power - very reliable
I have used this saw to cut down several trees in the 4-6inch size without issue. It has fired up every time I needed it, and ran particularly well in cold weather. I find the light weight is awesome for getting the job done. I am extremely pleased with this saw and am glad I chose to go with it. I really cannot emphasize enough how solidly built this saw is, it has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease.

    Excellent starter saw
This saw is amazing. It's the first chainsaw I have purchased and have cut a full cord of wood with it already no problem. Easy to use chain tensioner, gas and oil caps and very easy to clean. A little loud but no complaints. I have cut trees up to almost 3 feet in diameter no problem. Of course, the bigger the diameter, the longer it will take to cut through. But for trees about a foot in diameter, this saw cuts through them like butter. Very easy to start. Uh don't know what else to say but I ... read more highly recommend this to any homeowner who owns alot of property with forest.

    A "David" of a saw
OK, let me say that I have an MS361 and that is one powerful saw, but can get heavy with extended use. The 171 I use primarily for limbing, but I recently bought a vacation house and took it with me last weekend. I took down and cut up some pretty thick hard wood and this saw did it (I had a sharpened chain!). Took some time when the wood was hard, but took all I could give it. If I would have had my 361 I would have used it in several instances, but the 171 did the job. It's light, relatively ... read more quiet (I always use hearing protection, chaps, gloves etc however), and easy to use.

    Great saw
Bought this a year ago after fighting half the summer with another name brand. The starting ease and cutting power compared to the other saw is remarkable. I'm totally impressed and would definately buy another STIHL saw.

    great product
this saw just feels right in my hands. it starts from cold in only two pulls(no primer bulb)and once it gets going then just one pull. it has power to spare and could quite easily cut down very large trees. very easy to maneuver and easy to maintain. much better quality than the two previous that I owned. keep the bar chain oil topped off and the gas mixed correctly and it will slice through any tree that you put in front of it. all in all I'm very pleased with my purchase and I look forward to ... read more using it more often.

    Best chainsaw I’ve ever used...
This chainsaw is light enough to use all day without fatigue and strong enough for most everything. I’ve had mine for 4 years and it is the best saw I own. Lighter than my ms460 and not that much slower. Not that much heavier than my 020t, but the ms250 will leave the 020t in a pile of sawdust. Parts are readily available, but if this thing quits, I’m buying another one.

Big Saw in a Little Package
I needed a saw for light firewood duty and occasional tree removal in a rural setting. I've needed it already twice to remove storm damage, and it keeps on going when my neighbor's Husquvarna quit on him. Although it is only a 16 inch bar, I've cut up a poplar and an oak tree that were around 20inches in diameter. It does an amazing job.

    Runs and cuts great
I bought my first stihl (029 Farm Boss) about 20 years ago after seeing my dad run his (028 Wood Boss) for so many years problem free. After about 30+ years he has finally started needed a couple of minor things. With the experiences we have had with our saws, it's hard to break away from a brand you have always trusted. I needed something lighter for occasional use and decided on the ms-180. I took it out this past weekend. I am taking out a lot of trees with a diameter no larger than 8 inches. ... read more This saw performed very well and took trees down quick. It showed no signs of struggle at all. We will see how well it holds up as time goes on. After running it for a few hours, it was nice to actually not have a sore back and or feeling beat up. If you are looking for a saw that falls within this saws features I would say go for it.

    Excellent for small property
I own a small amount of acreage and for clearing of small to medium size trees this saw is more than capable for the job. This saw is easy to handle and won't vibrate your hands numb like some other saws.

3rd week after Log Cabin purchase.
Beats the previous saws I have had. We had a wind storm down over 200 trees. I burned up a box store cheapie. The next weekend a bought a Stihl MS251 and never regretted it. It took a week to before I drive all the way up my driveway to our cabin. A year later I am still working on cleaning up the mess upland. The Stihl starts and runs on demand. Has never given me grief. Cuts twice as fast and is more predictable previous saws I have owned. I would buy another Stihl but realistically I don't ... read more see me ever needing another saw.
