    Sweet Chainsaw
Purchased a MS 250 to go along with my MS 192 TC & MS 171 Chainsaws. Can't be happier with the decision that I made to purchase this saw to complement the stable of STIHL products I have already. This saw has plenty of power & is very fuel efficient for its size. It will replace a competitors brand that was temperamental and difficult to start @ best. With one pull @ full choke and a quick flip to half choke and one pull it hasn't failed to fire and be ready to work. Great job STIHL this and the ... read more other STIHL Chainsaws I already own as well as all of the other STIHL products I have purchased have never failed to deliver what I purchased them for.

    Reliable
Sometimes they are tricky to start if you're not familiar with this product, usually you choke it pull it twice, then take choke off and it will start, I found out that believe it or not each chainsaw has its own identity! It sounds weird but it's true. I use six different sizes throughout the day everyday so I know what I'm talking about, so just get to know your particular saw and it all should be good!!!!! Oh and make sure your mix is the correct ratio!!!! That's very important, and clean the ... read more air filter after a days use!

A great saw for the money and size
This is a great small saw for lite to moderate cutting. I've used it extensively for small trimming jobs as well as to drop snags up to 18 inches in diameter. This is not a full power professional grade saw, however for its price and size it has an excellent power to weight ratio and will run an 18 inch bar in hardwood with no problem. This is an excellent choice if you're looking for a small general duty chainsaw.

    All I'll ever need!
I purchased just under 5 acres of land with lots of Oak and Cedar and some Pine spread throughout. After using a competitor saw for 2 weeks I purchased this saw along with the FS 130 Brushcutter and have been extremely pleased. I'm no lumberjack but this saw gets more work done than the last one in half the time!

    toughest lil saw built
I bought 2 and believe me they are underrated. I work mine 10 hours a day. And cut some pretty big trees. 14 inch across. I used to be a husqvarna man. But the last 30 years nothing but stihl. Love all 3 of my saws. 250 is a cutting machine to.

I needed a small saw for the light cutting work, and this fits the task at hand.
My workhorse is a Farm Boss, which is used for the heavy work. The MS 181 is a great lightweight saw used for a run of small cutting tasks. This saw idles great, reeves up smooth and quick, and cuts like a knife! Yes, it is underpowered as compared to the Stihl Farm Boss, but that is why I have the Farm Boss. The MS 181 is a very welcomed addition to my overall capability, and its several pounds lighter in weight, and it does the job well. For its size, there is plenty of power. I am quite ... read more satisfied with this purchase and recommend the saw as a lightweight saw that carries the reputation of a Stihl.

The MS181 C-BE has all the features I was looking for.
I am very pleased with this saw, I turned 71 this last week, so when they say it starts like a dream and runs like a champ, I'm here to tell you it really does, and it cuts like crazy. The 5 star service I got from Ace Hardware was great, they put oil and gas in it, and took it outside and started it, gave me a full demo on the saw and then did all my paper work, I was impressed. Looking forward to using this saw as much as I can.

    Open Heart Surgery
After my open heart surgery I found it very difficult to start my old chain saws. So off to the Stihl dealer, I came home with this saw and could not be happier, I have used it for over two years for cutting trees to keep my property neat. If you require a saw with easy start capability, then this is a very dependable saw to use.

father in laws chainsaw is very durable, dependable, and user friendly
I borrowed my fathernlaws chainsaw, for a big clean up of our new home that we bought. I haven't ever used a chainsaw very often and so for me to get out and cut trees down for firewood and other smaller saplings for nearly every weekend for the last three weeks without any hiccups. The only hiccup I have had is keeping the three chains sharpened with the all day cutting. This 251 is a good chainsaw and the reason I was on here is to check out the price of a brand new one so I can own my own ... read more Stihl 251. As you know, its not so easy to ask the fathernlaw to borrow his tools lol. So I am getting my own stihl!

    Great saw
Only ran about 4 tanks of gas through the saw but very pleased with the saw. Has plenty of power and I would recommend. I have cut two large trees with the saw, so was pretty good on the fuel consumption. Would recommend. Hard to start until you get the method down right. Make sure to listen to the guy at Ace on how to start. if cold. Also there is a yourtube video that is helpful.

    Lots of power
I have had several brands of saws. But the 251 wood boss is the best. Yes it costs a little more than the ones you get at the Home Depot or Lowes. However it has the power to get thru large trees very quick. You are not fighting the saw to do the work, The wood boss does the work for you. Great on fuel, easy to start. Don't wast your time or money on any other brand. If you need to clear out trees from your land this is the saw to get.

    One very significant flaw
The one bolt/nut design for tightening the chain is efficient, yet it wasn't solidly adhered into the plastic body. I have plenty of saws and know not to over tighten when changing chain tension. The darn thing was loose and started coming right out of the plastic housing. It was repaired by my STIHL dealer after pressing Blue Mountain distribution. Because I have several STIHL products, they may have made an exception for me. It should be covered by warranty and should be solidly ... read more manufactured. Now that it is repaired, it is a good little light weight saw that I use on light work.

Good enough to buy a second!
The 170 has been literally an amazing purchase that even after 5-6 years of cutting the majority of wood used to heat a 2500 sq/ft home in minnesota. This past week, I picked up a second MS170 also, like the first one with the 14 inch bar NOT because my first 170 "bit the dust" quite the opposite, because it continues to work as great as the day I bought it requiring ZERO repair or replacement of anything but the chain itself. It may be listed as "Light duty/ home owner" but I can say it's ... read more performed better than a "Heavy duty" saw would in any other manufacturer. worth EVERY penny (would buy a third, but I think two running 170's is plenty :) )

Great quality but lack of power for a 16 inch bar.
Saw has typical STIHL quality but was a little surprised at lack of power with a 16 inch bar as sold. Would probably be a great saw with a shorter bar and chain.

Update to my earlier 3 year review
I just got my saw back from my local dealer. They did a wonderful job and replaced the bar oil reservoir and piston under warranty. Saw runs good now and I have turned it over to the wife for her use. I am a little disappointed that it needed major repairs after only three years but give kudos to Stihl and my dealer for standing by the extended warranty.

    Suspension saves arthritic hands.
Upon purchase of this saw, I started to acquire the wood needed to heat my home for this winter. I was fortunate to have several large oak trees that had expired and were well seasoned for use this year. AS YOU KNOW, OAK IS A HARD WOOD AND DENSE BY NATURE. MY NEW SAW WAS UP TO THE CHALLENGE AND PROVIDED EXCELLENT SERVICE AS I CUT MULTIPLE CHORDS. I have since burned about twenty tanks of gas and have not encountered any problems. Best saw I have used in twenty plus years of heating my home with ... read more wood. I am an experienced user and find this product more than adequate. My only concern is will my health allow me to keep up with this saw, LOL

    3 year review
I've owned this saw for three years. The first year it performed well then it started to leak bar oil when it was not being used, then it would not run after it warmed up. It's in the shop for the third time but I am afraid I just wore it out. I take care of my tools and have performed a tune-up and clean the air filter regularity. We have heavily wooded property that we are still clearing, I have a MS311 and it now the go-to saw but would like a lighter saw for limbing and the wife to ... read more use. This is the last homeowner grade saw I will buy. The farm/ranch or professional series are much better if you plan on using it a lot.
