    Mighty machine
Coming from a curved shaft homeowner to this straight shaft unit rotating in the opposite direction takes some getting used to, The power is significantly greater as well. With all trimmers, the string deployment is a central issue. You have to watch the line and not let it get too short, but the bump feed works well. I refilled the head yesterday. You almost wonder if there shouldn't be a factory wound spool you could just pop in, but it really didn't take that long. Practice I guess. Very nice machine.

    First Stihl
I love my Stihl trimmer! I got it last year as an early birthday present. I set led on this model, instead of a light duty commercial model. live in the country and have some tough weeds. I also have 8+ acres. Plenty to trim. It cuts down the heavy stuff like blackberry canes and horse weed. It works well a on all my grass and weeds. I know I'm not the strongest man , but this trimmer is still pretty easy to use. I would exactly call it light, it is well made after all , but it is not too heavy ... read more either. I also find that it is well balanced. The shoulder strap helps with that but all in all it's a nice unit. The only thing I a have trouble with is the bump feed that mine came with.

It's a STIHL that needs one minor improvement.
This trimmer is great and I love working with it. It came with the new short-pull starter technology which is fantastic. However, I was surprised that I have to disassemble the trimmer head to add new line. Personally, this is annoying so if possible I will change the trimmer head to something different that allows me to more quickly add new line. Other than this it is a great tool. It's a STIHL so it's always worth the money.

    Will continue buying STIHL
What I appreciate about STIHL are their focus on customer service. I know they're a brand that stands behind their product. If I need any maintenance or wish to do it myself and purchase parts, I can. Also, since these dealers also service the product, they know them front and back. Put simply, buying STIHL I am investing in the company and their proven track record. At the big box stores my relationship ends at the swipe of a card.

This is made for a taller man
I bought the FS50ce kind of by accident. I did not realize in the store this was the trimmer for taller men. I am 6'1'' and used to have a FS46 until ethanol gas wrecked it and I gave it to a friend. I went to the store just for a FS38. The store was sold out. I am glad they were out of stock. I am very happy with the extra 8 inches. I am also really happy with the easy2start and the choke system. Very good fuel economy as well. So far I have only run Stihl Moto mix in this trimmer. I have used ... read more it about 10 times now and my back is happy.

    runs like a dream
Why I didn't buy this earlier I don't know. Stihl starts up very easy, two pulls and it fires right up no bogging with a lot of power. It is not very heavy, it has a tall shaft which helps me from having to bend over I'm (6'1"). A lot of people wonder about cost, it may seem high but the quality justifies the cost it is worth every penny.

3 years and Stihl going strong!!
I bought this trimmer 3 years ago and this bad boy is as strong as ever. I've not had any problems other than wearing the head out but that's going to happen if you use it a lot. TIP: ONLY use Stihl oil and ONLY use non-ethanol gas 89 octane or 91 octane. I've done this for 3 years now and my trimmer will start on the first pull every time. TAKE CARE OF YOUR STUFF! Keep good spark plugs and Stihl oil and non-ethanol gas and your Stihl will run for many, many years. I also have the BG 56c blower ... read more and it runs like a BOSS!! If you buy anything other than Stihl, then you're wasting your money! I know I sound like a spokesperson for Stihl but I honestly just love their products and think they are the best.

Love it. Starts, cuts, PRO feel!
Bought the backpack straps @ same time. Love them both. My bad lower back can weed whack for hours, and still move the next day! 2+ acres in the CA foothills.

    This trimmer is a BEAST!
I have been using this trimmer in a lawn care business for five years now. It has hundreds of hours on it and it still runs just as good as it did on day one. If you wind the line properly you will not have any issues with it advancing. I highly recommend this trimmer.

    Very low string storage...
I was a little skeptical purchasing a dual line trimmer and unfortunately, my issue is exactly about two strings. I do love Stihl products...the service and quality are very good. My issue is that there is very little storage in the spinner head for the cutting line. I've only used it three times now and already have had to replace the line. Granted, I have a lot of trimming to do but three times is not very much. Also, the location of the exhaust is very close to where my arm sits. I purchased ... read more a shoulder strap and it's not long enough so my arm sits on the cover, which can get very hot as the exhaust is right there. Thanks for your time.

    Great trimmer
Bought this trimmer to replace my 10 y/o trimmer that broke down. Started after two pulls, ran it for three hours through three feet thick grass and weeds. Did not bog out at all; did not stall. Refueled and started right back up. I am 5'5" and this trimmer is the perfect size for me. I think my 6'5' husband would have a difficult time using because of the curved and shorter shaft. I love this trimmer already. I also have Stihl's blower that I've used for the past two years and have never had to ... read more pull more than three times to start.
