Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stihl... Great product What more has to be said? It's a Stihl. If you want the best, you have to buy the best. No problems at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from string provided too brittle I recently acquired the FS56 RC-E from Ward's Power Equipment, Covington, WA. They are a small shop and have served me well for purchases of power equipment for home use. The FS56 is truly a one pull starter, impressive how easy it jumps alive. Initial use of it, however, was plagued with snapped line as soon as it hit any obstruction. The line provided with the FS56 was simply too rigid and would snap at the spool's exit point and refused to extend new line when bumped. I finally removed all the original line and replaced it with a more flexible line which now does not snap when it hits an obstruction. The flexible line might not cut as well as a more rigid line but what good it is it if does not extend from the spool? I'm very happy with the FS56 and highly recommend it, but definitely replace the original line.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HEAD FELL OFF I own EVERYTHING STIHL. With that being said I needed a trimmer for around the house so I wouldn’t have to use my FS 131 trimmer all the time for small projects. Side bar; I’ve had that trimmer for 15 years w not a single problem. Now, bought my 50 C-E, used it a few times around the house w the typical bumping of the head to release more string. HEAD FALLS OFF after using it about 4 times. Took it back to dealer, GREAT WARRANTY/SERVICE....replaced head, no charge and I’m back to trimming. I put a poly blade head on it to keep from having to bump the head to release string. NOT A FAN OF STRING. So far head has held on. BUT NOT WHAT I EXPECT FROM STIHL.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from To retread the head is more then I can handle. The instructions on how to rethread the head are not good

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice but the auto head is a real pain. I love Stihl products, especially chainsaws. So, when I needed a new trimmer a dealer I knew recommended the FS 50 trimmer for my needs. Starts great , cuts well when the line is as it should be howevert this auto head doesn't work as it should. I had to tear it apart several timess and getting all that back together is a real pain, just to have the line stick again. Someone mentioned recall for the head unit. That would be a great idea.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Homeowner It's a good machine for the average home owner. If you want to cut down a 1/2 acre, I suggest a commercial product. Otherwise, easy to start, good power, and manageable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Head is terrible as other reviews state I have been a faithful Stihl customer and bypassed the reviews on this model because I couldn’t believe Stihl would have such a poor product. I discounted the poor reviews as user error only to find this auto feed head is total junk. Recall is the only solution here.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Auto-cut head- poor to say the least Very disappointed in this Stihl product. First Stihl I have owned. Had much cheaper trimmers that the line advanced very easily. I’ve had to pound and pound the head on the ground and most of the time the line didn’t advance. Took back to store and they said it worked fine! Hard to load line and advance line. Too expensive to get rid of so will have to live with and fight it every time.
