Rated 4 out of 5 by from All Good EXCEPT Replacement Line Brought home, charged battery, started to trim lawn. Impressed with power, quiet operation, and overall design. Ran out of line fairly quickly, but chainlink fence will do that, no problem, I'll just replace with .080 green round line (Stihl) and keep going. WRONG!! This line is too hard and won't cut properly when line is advanced. The unit tries to cut, but ends up spitting the spool, spring, and all the guts on the ground. Went to dealer with questions, but no answer. Stihl didn't think this one through. Can't buy type of line that comes with it in bulk (yet). Dealer had no replacement spools in stock. I do like the operation of the unit otherwise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good and Bad I love the way the trimmer works and how lighweight it is. I already have a gas trimmer but wanted something that was easier on my back. I was disappointed that the battery would not last long enough to trim my whole yard and I do not have a big yard. They claim that you can trim the length of 3 football fields on one battery. Well if that is true they are trimming while running!! I had to buy a second battery just to get by yard done which made the trimmer more expensive then I planned. I am also disappointed that it was not designed with refillable trim line. You have to buy the replacement spools instead which also adds to the cost of the unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality and good price I have used this product four or five times and are very happy with it. It has all the power that I need for an acre of trimming and have never ran out of battery. It is light and easy to handle even for a senior citizen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and easy to use. (Great Products) Well, it's me again. This time instead of discussing Stihl's trimmer re-stringing I'm going to write about battery life. I bought two of Stihl's battery products on the same day, their 56 trimmer and their 56 blower. The trimmer came with a 10, and their blower came with a 20 numbered battery: the higher the number, the longer they will last. After using the trimmer a couple of times, I used some electrical tape and taped all three buttons to their on position. With all three in the on position, all I had to do was push in the battery till it clicked and presto trimmer running at full tilt, and then all I have to do is carry it around. If I have to stop the trimmer, I just push the orange button on the side, and it turns off. Here Stihl might want to rethink their configuration and install a simple electrical on and off switch and forget their multi-button design: too much trouble. Now as to the battery life of the 10 and 20 batteries, no complaints here. The Trimmer runs for about 17- 20 minutes, and the Blower about the same. There's a total 4 charging light bars on each battery. I have a large lawn, with about 22 minutes of fast walk trimming to do and 15 minutes of blowing. When I’m finished with both, I have used 6 of those bars. Keep in mind; I don't turn my trimmer off during that 22 minutes of trimming. If I run out of the 10 battery, I just pop in the 20 battery, and I'm back in business. I'm well pleased with Stihl's now "Constant ON" trimmer and their blower. In comparison to their gas trimmer for lawn work their battery trimmer is working out 10 times better for me than the very nice straight pipe Stihl trimmer I have, which that took me 45 minutes to trim my lawn. Of course, if you need a trimmer to cut heavy weeds then maybe the gas trimmer is what you need, but if you want to stay "COOL" along with "QUIET" then let me suggest you invest in a BATTERY STIHL TRIMMER and BLOWER. (Don’t forget to use a little electrical tape, you'll be glad you did.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't Find Replacement Spools This should be a great product because it is lightweight, quiet and handy. However, I have had mine for a month and have used up all the line in the spool that came with it. It appears they designed this with the idea that users would by replacement spools with line included. It may be possible to buy new line in bulk and restring the spool but there are no instructions for how to do that and my local Stihl dealer could not help. My local Stihl dealers have not had replacement spools in stock since I purchased my trimmer. They say they are on back-order. As a long-time Stihl advocate and user, this is disappointing from a company with the Stihl reputation. The battery life is somewhat limited--I cannot do my entire yard on one charge. The local Stihl dealer did not have spare batteries in stock so I bought the battery powered blower that uses the same battery. It is not as powerful as my backpack blower but super handy for blowing off the deck or cleaning out my garage. If Stihl gets the pipeline going on replacement spools or provides detailed guidance on restring the spools, I'll be happy with this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hmmm?? Let me start by saying that this is perfect for someone my size........short! It isn't too heavy and is easy on my low back. The problem I have encountered is that it doesn't come with an instruction manual so I have had to search online. I did download the instructions for the FSA 56 but there is no information on how to replace the trimmer line for this model. They forgot I guess? I will have to go back to the dealer and ask for assistance. I should have read reviews prior to purchasing as there have been other owners run into the same problem. Darn!! Live and learn!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! What is not to like? Light, powerful, long battery life. No Gas! No Air Filter or routine maintenance. Lithium Ion Battery units have come a long way! Stihl has it right on this one!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor spool design, no Stihl support Purchased this trimmer from a local dealer/tractor supply back in February. Now that it's time to start doing yard work I go to use the trimmer. Difficult to get string out of spool. Works OK when string is out. Half way around small yard and the spool runs out. No information on string size or spool loading in owners manual. Find out string size finally, reload spool and same issue. Now I find out Stihl has designed the spool to be REPLACED, not reloaded. I'm done with this thing. Back to the dealer, They beleive Stihl knows of the issue but offer no help as I'm past the 7 day mark. Even in Texas the lawn dosn't grow in February/March. Dealer claims they eat the loss and give me a new gas trimmer. BEWARE.
