Chainsaw Protective Apparel

Chaps, boots and more to help keep you safe

Whether you're cutting at home or on the job, stay sharp and suit up with STIHL chainsaw protective apparel. From lightweight apron chaps to winter protective pants, STIHL offers a complete line of chainsaw protective apparel for every season and every reason you cut.

It is a great privilege being the number one selling brand of chainsaws worldwide. But we view it as an even greater responsibility to help keep our customers protected while using them. That's why our chainsaw protective apparel is made with multiple layers of Avertic® Pro by Engtex®, a cut-retardant material designed to clog up the sprocket to stop the chain on a gasoline-powered chainsaw. This reduces the risk or severity of injury to the body parts covered by the Avertic® Pro by Engtex® layers in the event of contact with the rotating saw chain. Our chainsaw protective apparel is also easy to use, so it has you covered – without getting in your way.

STIHL chainsaw protective apparel is also wash and wear, unlike some other brands that require dry cleaning or light surface cleaning.

Not for me, till I wore a pair
I bought a pair of these with the purchase of my 660 mag, the dealer only had the most expensive modle left and my girlfriend rolled her eyes at the cost and my need for them. Then she came to the jon site and seen what I was cutting, and dismissed all cost for these chaps for the safety they provide. I found them easy and very comfy to wear, almost forgetting I had them on. They do get hot for me and couldnt seem to keep cool without some ice packs down my pants.

Best christmas present I ever got!
My wife gave me a pair of Pro Chaps on Christmas. I have been thinning some Pondarosa Pines on our 200 Ac. ranch and have cut down about 200 trees between 6 and 12 inches in diameter during the past couple months. Last week while cutting off some lower limbs so I could get to the trunk of a tree to fell it, a branch fell onto the saw blade and forced the saw into my upper thigh. The chaps stopped my Still 290 before it got to me. Not a drop of blood was spilt. I had to thank my wife again for ... read more the great Christmas gift. I am very glad I had the right safety equipment. After that experience, I won't cut without them, and I won't let anyone cut wood on our ranch without chaps. A lot cheaper than a visit to the ER.

    Don’t leave Home without them!
Have been cutting wood since 13. I’m 63 and now cut for a hobby! Never would have worn these in my younger days. The chaps protect your legs from briars, limbs and a little softer to kneel if your working a bigger log. Keep you warmer in the cold and don’t notice them in the heat. Keeps my under clothing in better shape. Hope I never have to find out if they “really” work but will never cut without them now that I know all of the other benefits!

    Great Product
Great Product. You will need 'Y' suspenders, as they are low rise. I purchased size XL and I'm 6'4" and wear 42 x 32 pants and these are just right. I washed and dried them as described and they came out like new.

    Great protection; feel cheap
Chaps have good layers but feel cheap. The webbing and buckles are thin and clunky. I like the buckle placements (3 at bottom, one around the thigh, and the belt buckle). I wish they had pads in the knees and am afraid they will wear though; the outer material feels cheap. They are hot to wear, and while i thought the 6 layer would be less not, i don't think it is by much. I found the 6 layer in store, put them on, and immediately felt the insulation of the chaps. Due to this, I have worn light ... read more clothing underneath b/c I am covered in PPE. It would be nice if there were some way to breath more between your legs and chaps (spacer?). After running the saw, you don't notice the chaps. Awkward to walk in but not bad. Chaps are definitely heavy. No dealer carried these so had to special order. They only come in a 36" length, which is perfect for a 30-32" men's pant length. Price in 8/18 was $134.99, very reasonable, considering an ER visit copay can be $200. Belt is adjustable and only goes to a ~42" pant size; if you are worried, get the extension for ~$15 (must special order).

Spend the extra for the protection
Running 661-R, 362, 210 and 171. Use the chaos with all as I saw my brothers leg scar from the kick back he had. Ain't good to not wear even though the extra weight is aggravating.

Protect what you don't want to loose.
These are replacing a very old and worn pair or zippered chaps, which have saved my legs more times than I care to count. I'm am independent tree cutter for a neighbor who performs tree clearing in Northern Michigan and have seen too many accidents from chain saws to the legs. In my opinion, the open-back (wrap around) chaps move too much on the leg for good, solid protection. Have tried different styles/mfg. of cutting chaps over thirty years, and keep coming back to Stihl brand. Does get ... read more sweaty around legs during summer use, but keeps legs and body warm during winter use.

    Best chaps available!
I have had two close calls over 12 years of cutting firewood (mostly tops). I wasn't wearing chaps either time. One was across the top of a steel toe boot, and the other caught the back of my left leg while I was pulling brush with my right hand. I wasn't injured either time, but I always thought chaps were stupid because they left the back of your leg exposed. When I found these, I did not hesitate to buy them. There are two robust zippers on each leg, so you can adjust the leg opening size to ... read more run them with heavy clothing in cold weather on the outsize zipper, and with just pants in the summer on the inside zipper. They have held up great to brush and briar busting and provide a lot of confidence. Don't run your saw without eye, hearing, and cut protection!

    Love the value.
I bought these as part of a package deal that had protective glasses and a safety helmet with visor and ear protection. These chaps are great. Awesome value and really comfortable I am a decent size guy at 6'2" and 220 lbs and they fully covered my legs despite their one size fits all. The nice thing is they were half the price of more expensive chaps and they are great for casual woodcutters. Also they are lightweight and easily cleaned when they get sweat and dirt on them.

Easy to put on, nimble to wearer
I wear my Woodcutter Chaps in very wet conditions. I maintain waterways. I wear them over breathable chest waders in the winter. Just this past week I had to use them, meaning the chain/bar tapped my knee when a widow maker hit my Stihl helmet (awesome helmet). Everything happened quickly. But my waders didn't receive any damage and neither did my knee. Oh it could had been bad but the chaps worked. Awesome stuff Stihl!

    Safety and Comfort
After seeing my uncle run a saw into his shin I knew this was a must have a safety item. Watch the video on youtube on these pants and it will give you a real piece of mind when using your saw. I purchased my chaps in a package deal making it even a better value. The Chaps are extremely easy to get on and off. Other than them being a little hot on warmer days, you won't even notice your wearing them plus it saves a lot of wear on your pants.
