Excellent fit, outstanding protection, good value
I use this helmet with several Stihl tools (blower, pole saw, several chainsaws, weed eaters and when I'm using my chippers or log splitters). This helmet stays with you; look up, down or sideways and it doesn't fall over your nose. The screen works fabulously well and deflects wood chips, rocks and other debris with great success. While walking under huge Douglas fir trees I had a "widow maker" come down and hit me squarely on the helmet. The helmet deflected a heavy dead branch (about 4" ... read more diameter and maybe 18-20' long). Although the ear muff broke off, the helmet was fabulous; the branch was deflected to the side, I was completely uninjured, and if I can get a new muff, this is still a perfectly serviceable product. Yep, I keep these helmets available for people that work with me and they are required to wear them.

Traumatic brain injury, post concussion syndrome
A large maple dropped a 15 pound limb from 40 to 50 feet up. Hit almost dead center of my head. 3 weeks later and a few doctors and chiropractor visits. I'm doing about 80 percent right now. The rapid side head motion caused my brain injury, which I will gladly accept. Nothing on my skull hurt! Just a wee little scuff mark from the head band. In 10 to 15 years I'm going to make some cribs for my neices kids out of that maple. Thanks Stihl for producing not only good tools but products ... read more that keep us safe also! BTW I dont write reviews

Use it or roll the dice
I'm in my second helmet. First had five cracks this one's taken 15 hits in 3 weeks with no damage. All would have been bad voodoo. I work alone clearing 20 yr old fields for farmers. Run my170 up to the 661c mag. 170 just reached 80k cedar n bodock. Bad happens. The helmet works! Wish stihl would lead the way in safety though for newcomers. Won't touch a saw wihout a helmet .

    Saved a life
Had some people cutting thorny locust on a steep bank along my half mile driveway. Gave a Sawyer my Stihl chaps to wear as he didn't bring his. I was on a 4 wheeler moving between crews working top and bottom sections. When I came back down he apologized for ruining my chaps. I told him they did their job and that he probably would have bled out if he wasn't wearing quality PPE. The pro mark chaps stopped a ms261 running at full throttle and never penetrated the chaps. If you don't think it can ... read more happen to you, think again. Thank you Stihl for a truly life saving product.

Not for me, till I wore a pair
I bought a pair of these with the purchase of my 660 mag, the dealer only had the most expensive modle left and my girlfriend rolled her eyes at the cost and my need for them. Then she came to the jon site and seen what I was cutting, and dismissed all cost for these chaps for the safety they provide. I found them easy and very comfy to wear, almost forgetting I had them on. They do get hot for me and couldnt seem to keep cool without some ice packs down my pants.

    saved the day
My wife bought me a pair of these when she bought my 661cm. Was clearing a steep hillside with my 034 av super. Lost balance and the saw smacked my leg. It stopped the saw instantly. These chaps saved my leg. I laughed when she bought these as I had never wore a set before. Guess who is laughing now. Will most definitely be buying another set. These things are not near as annoying to wear as I thought they would be. They make my legs sweat just a little more in warm hot weather but definitely ... read more something you can put up with more then a trip to er or even worst the morgue.

    Good gloves
I work for s tree service and wanted impact gloves. I ended up with a pair of thhese gloves. The fit was nice, they are light and protection was great. However the first job they tore. Not sure if it was a flaw or if they just aren't meant to be worked in this manner. I love the gloves but the quality was a bit low for the price.

    Excellent Fit
I've been looking for a place to review these gloves (they aren't listed on Amazon). I bought them at a hardware store here in Illinois, and they are fantastic! You really should try any sort of clothes on in person before ordering online to be sure they fit you, and with any mass-produced clothes, try on several of the same product, because cuts are often off a bit, even if by 0.25mm, and one will fit ever so slightly better than another of the same make, model, and size. However, STIHL does a ... read more fantastic job at quality control from what I've observed, so if one pair fits you, the others are pretty likely to be just as good. Now, for some things that stand out about these excellent gloves: First and foremost, they fit near perfectly (my hands are large, with fingers longer than most gloves have). I was frustrated that most gloves labeled "Large" have stubby 2" fingers. These STIHL gloves are meant for a healthy, large, male hand like mine, NOT chubby hands with stub fingers. Secondly, for the level of protection these gloves provide, they amazingly retain near full dexterity! The only gloves I've used that are more dexterous are surgical gloves. The STIHL Outdoor PRO Gloves are nimble enough to pick up coins, tie shoelaces, handle tiny screws, and manipulate nearly all manner of small objects. This is a huge benefit when working in hazardous areas/terrain where it's ideal to keep your gloves on. Thirdly, though these gloves are a bit pricey compared to their lighter cousins, the impact plates (some kind of silicone or rubber) are placed in key spots where you really don't want stuff to hit your hand (like a 2x4 or scaffold rails). I do wish the padding was a bit more extensive, such as on the knuckles, thumb, and over the finger nails, but it's still very nice. Even the STIHL text on the top of the wrist has impact plates. The palm has excellent padding, thick enough to protect, but thin enough to remain dexterous. Final thoughts: The synthetic leather holds up very well, has decent grip, but isn't too grippy like some of those gecko-fingered gloves I've seen. The nylon fabric that holds the glove together is sturdy, flexible, breaths well, and does a great job at wicking sweat away. The gloves are warm enough to use in cool weather (around 35-40°F), but cool enough to use in warm weather (70-80°F). I like these gloves so much, I actually wear them everyday, even when out and about. They pass for excellent driving gloves, as well as hiking gloves. I'm not sure how they'd do for rock climbing, though, since I don't do that outdoor activity. The overall muted colors work well with many daily outfits, so these gloves I'd rate as excellent general purpose protective gloves. I will buy them again soon, just in case if they are discontinued by the time my current pair finally expires.

Well Constructed - Wash Before Using
Purchased these as part of Woodcutter's Helmet / Chaps kit. Well constucted and fit well. Not as cumbersome as I expected they might be. "Apron" description is a bit misleading as they strap around both legs separately. Glad I noticed instruction on tag to wash before use. Washing doubled the bulk of the inner safety layers and will no doubt make them more effective in the event need them to stop the saw. Note to Stihl: you might want to make that wash before use notice more prominent, such as ... read more on a tear-off tag on the garment.

    Safety first!
I would feel naked without wearing these if I was using my chainsaw. Statistics has proven that a majority of all injuries caused by chainsaws occur to the lower extremities. These chaps cover the areas most commonly affected by chainsaw injuries to the legs. I love wearing these along with my other PPE. They fit very well and are adjustable at the waist and at 2 locations along the pant leg to fit the width of your legs. They are lightweight, flexible and allow a great range of motion to the ... read more operator. I like the black color chaps because the dirt and grime is less obvious to show.

Warm, but better than the alternative!
I bought these in the wood cutter bag kit with the helmet, ear muffs and glasses. Good price, they seem durable. In warm weather they're HOT, but that's still a much better alternative than having no protection. Saws are dangerous. As others have said, they need to be washed to work properly, but I couldn't find the washing instructions without searching online.

    Great protective gear
I bought these pants when I upgraded my chainsaw. They fit well and are easy to put on. The bright color helps others clearly see where you are. They can get a little warm, but I will take that for the protection they offer. I have not tested the effectiveness of the cut protection (and I hope never to test it), but I am glad to know it is there.

    Great protection; feel cheap
Chaps have good layers but feel cheap. The webbing and buckles are thin and clunky. I like the buckle placements (3 at bottom, one around the thigh, and the belt buckle). I wish they had pads in the knees and am afraid they will wear though; the outer material feels cheap. They are hot to wear, and while i thought the 6 layer would be less not, i don't think it is by much. I found the 6 layer in store, put them on, and immediately felt the insulation of the chaps. Due to this, I have worn light ... read more clothing underneath b/c I am covered in PPE. It would be nice if there were some way to breath more between your legs and chaps (spacer?). After running the saw, you don't notice the chaps. Awkward to walk in but not bad. Chaps are definitely heavy. No dealer carried these so had to special order. They only come in a 36" length, which is perfect for a 30-32" men's pant length. Price in 8/18 was $134.99, very reasonable, considering an ER visit copay can be $200. Belt is adjustable and only goes to a ~42" pant size; if you are worried, get the extension for ~$15 (must special order).

    Best chaps I've owned
I've worn these chaps for 6 years, logging weekends in winter and sawing 12 cord of firewood during the summer each year. These chaps have held up better than any chap I've owned. The benefit of the lower leg wrap is evident in winter. It doubles as a safety and to help keep snow out of my boots. They are light and comfortable. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to buy quality.
