    Great machine
I had a load of huge bushes that were taking over my side walk. I dreaded using my old electric clipper. It aways took so long and trimmer wouldn't cut the thick branches. I decided on the HS56c-e with the recommendation from the dealer. I could have bought the home owner model for a lot less. I'm glad I spent the extra money for the HSC-E. This machine cut the bushes with ease and no bogging down. I was amazed how quick I was able trim all my bushes. I am very satisfied. Spend the extra mony. ... read more You won't be disappointed. Great machine.

    Best I've ever used!
I had read some spotty reviews about the engine, but took a chance when I realized the machine with the best reviews had the same motor. I runs great! Easy, reliable start, cold or hot, it cuts like nothing I have ever owned! I have overgrown hedges and oleanders . The thicker branches (1"+) take a little longer, but it goes thru cleanly. The only thing I didn't appreciate was when cutting high, the exhaust blows right in my face, but its not Stihl's fault I let the plants grow so high.

    light powerful hedgetrimmer
I bought this to replace a echo unit I was having problems with and am very satisfied with it.it is lighter and better balanced then any other gas hedge trimmer I have ever used and has plenty of power.I did have to take mine back to the dealer because of a carb issue but that was quickly resolved and has run perfect ever since.

Should have bought this years ago
I love this trimmer. I haven't had this more than two days, so my dependability rating is purely a guess, based on my other, older Stihl equipment (FS 85 trimmer and 036 Pro chainsaw). I don't make money at this job, but I do have to cut about 200' total of hedges with parts over 6’ tall, twice a week in the springtime, then tapering to every 2 weeks as the summer heat picks up and the growth slows. After 18 years learning the Zen of keeping these straight and sharp, I'll call myself an ... read more expert. I bought this HS 82 T to supplement my FS 85 which has an adjustable angle trimmer on the end of a 5’ rod. That FS 85 has been great for the last 15 years, but I've grown tired of swinging the relatively short trimmer on the end of the long and heavy stick. I would've tried the 40" 87 T if it came in double-sided, but my hedge type only does well when I swing the cut in both directions to keep the branches only pointing outward not vertical, and I didn't want to walk twice up and down their lengths. This also looked better than the 87 T to flip upside down and use above my head. For my job, this trimmer is fantastic. It has a lightweight aluminum stiffener along the length of the bar that's not too tall to get in the way. Mine didn't come with the nifty semi-circle protector at the tip as in the picture, but my FS 85 didn't have one either, and I haven't had a problem from the occasional ding onto the sidewalk. The exhaust being ported toward away from me and toward the cutter is more than welcome. It’s a much quieter running machine than the FS85, with none of its “ding ding ding” of the centrifugal clutch. The weight on this felt much lighter than the similar trimmer from another brand that I tried. They’re nearly the same dry weight on paper, but for me it's not about total weight, it's about the balance. I need to swing the trimmer a zillion times, and for that this trimmer is a dream, beating the other hands down. One thing that surprised me is that I also really like the rotating trigger handle. At first I thought it too gimmicky, but it really is easier to use the trimmer when the handle is oriented right. I especially like putting it sideways, then the trimmer feels more like it’s in chainsaw mode. Very comfy. I hope I don’t wear out the mechanism, as the plastic-on-plastic swivel handle is the one thing I’m a little worried about for long-term durability. The vibration isolation works very well. I didn’t come in after work with my fingers still vibrating from gripping the trimmer for hours, as always happens with using my FS 85. I’d even tried special gloves to reduce the nerve damage, but their thick foam made the work harder. With the HS 82 I got no such problem, and was only wearing regular leather work gloves. With the weighted fuel filter, the trimmer works great in any orientation -- sideways, pointed up or down, and upside down while over my head. I had no fuel feed problems, and speaking of fuel, it seems to be fairly fuel efficient too, which is nice. In summary, the specs of this trimmer met the specs for my task, and the rest of the features have made me very happy to use this fantastic tool.

    professional hedge trimmers
Amazing product moved up from the hs 45 the hs 82t has more power no vibration and the exhaust is channeled to the front of the trimmer away from the operator. Rotating rear handle is great for long hedges. Overall the best trimmer on the market today well thought out features perfect for the professional.

This is truly a great hedge trimmer.
I have owned several hedge trimmers in my past. All of them were a extreme pain to CRANK and to keep running and to keep out of the repair shop. The hedges at my home are very tall and large, the branches are an average of 1 inch thick and the HL 90 K cuts through them like soft butter. The extended shaft makes the work safer and faster to do especially when you work from a ladder. I own several pieces of out door power equipment which I am changing over to STIHL products, for 3-great reasons. ... read more 1-Dependability 2-Reliably 3-MADE IN THE USA!!!!!!! Amazing!!
This is a good product being for the price and power it puts out. I also own the HL 100, and both leave quality work behind. It's perfect for the smaller bushes and shrubs and everything in between.

    Like the adjustable cutting head
This product is solid and works well. Reading other reviews I agree it is a bit on the heavy side however I have found using a shoulder harness (from Stihl) it can be adjusted for much more ease of use while taking the full weight off your hands and arms while using the unit. It cuts well and in my case as an older man greatly helps the strain of reaching with arms fully extended as needed on my HS45 model. Also several times trimming over the years I had the unfortunate problem of wasps nests ... read more and getting stung up close to the hedge when their disturbed, with this unit your much farther away and greatly reduce the chance of that happening. Smooth operation and less vibration also made this model better.

All the features needed to trim a variety of hedges
Works very well but the longer shaft makes it a little top heavy. If you have a lot to trim then periodic rest periods are advised. Otherwise, can not be a better trimmer on the market. The adjustable blade makes work easy.

Great Tool for Southern Properties with lots of shrubs
I bought this trimmer about six years ago, wishing that I had done so earlier. Where I lived at the time in GA, shrubs grow quickly so keeping up with the growth required long-reach trimming about each two weeks during the long growing season there. This machine always starts on the first or second pull of the starter rope if I follow the starting instructions. To keep it sharp, I always store it with the plastic guard in place and oil the cutter bar after each use with spray-on applications of ... read more WD-40, I am a homeowner in another state right now, it coming in mighty handy again for maintaining my landscape plants here as well. I expect it to last a long time, just like my Stihl chainsaw that is now 31 years old. I am finding that my small engines last a long time if I completely avoid using fuels that contain ethanol. Even big box stores now sell premixed gasoline for 2-stroke engines that contain no ethanol. Incidentally, this trimmer starts well, even on relatively cold mornings in WI where I now reside,

Great product I bought way late
Do not hesitate when considering the purchase of an extended reach shear. What a difference I have found between a short reach shear and the HL100K 135*. Less fatigue. Better fitting for all applications. Stores nicely. Wendy and Edgar both complained about hard starting. I also find it difficult to start the machine. Usually I pull the cord once without doing anything to the primer or choke, listen for the sputter, then set the choke. If it is above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, I'll set the choke ... read more and pull once, pull off the choke and hold the trigger fully open and usually get a good start after a pull or two. If you need help, see the dealer. They can be tricky to the inexperienced. I've had the shear for a good five years and the blade is sharp after trimming hundreds of shrubs. Easily cuts 3/4" woody stems. Easy to keep an even cut over long stretches of hedge. I typically use only straight. Rarely use the adjustable angle but for storage. You'll be happy to stand straight up instead of bending over. Don't use at half throttle for best results. Also, as another post stated, clean with the Stihl aerosol shear cleaner and resin remover after use. Keep your gearbox greased with Stihl Multilube. And lastly, use only non-ethanol fuel. If you're using it as a homeowner (periodically), I would recommend emptying the fuel tank and running the fuel out until it dies. Then the fuel lines have air in them, not fuel, therefore will prevent failure. Don't leave it unlocked either. People with no money really want one of these that someone else paid for. Take what you will from my opinion and you will enjoy a great tool for a long time! Manufactured in USA

You get what you pay for
Excellent power, nice reach, really easy to use. Some might complain about the weight, but it's not a problem. I also love how the blades fold in for easy storage. I'm also only using pre mixed 50:1 fuel, since it has no ethanol.

Oustanding hedger - great quality and easy to use
Purchased this hedger to assist me in reaching mature shrubs and trees on my property that were planted 10 years ago. The HL 100 K is very easy to use and light weight. To be honest I personally like the fixed blade- the hedger can easily be rotated and remains comfortable in use. In fact, the fixed blade in my opinion allows you to trim quicker due to there is no reason to stop and adjust the blade head (personal preference). I own six Stihl power tools that I use weekly and as always thy ... read more never fail to amaze me in performance, rugged construction, and reliability. Stihl is the greatest
I bought one of these a few weeks ago on the morning of a big job and was worried about it being big enough and good enough. Compeletly wrong, anything stihl no matter what it is will last a very long time and out does any other outdoor power equipment.
