HS 45
HS 45 is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 80.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bent blade right away The blades are weak, and expensive to replace. I have a brand new one I gave to the repair shop because fixing it was 3/4 of the price of new. Disappointing purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from runs like a dream, cuts really good! I purchased this one to replace my old HS45. It is the best hedge trimmer I have ever used. Easy to handle with the 24in blade. It feels like it has less vibration then my old one when it was new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works how I need it too. Light weight and does a great job trimming hedges. A good lasting battery charge as well. It is just what I need to do the home trimming and shaping I have. I truly like the fact there is no gasoline (noise and hassle to maintain) or electrical cord (could be dangerous) necessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality and Ease of Use - What More Could You Want? Like many of the folks writing reviews here, I too struggled with cheesy, underwhelming electric trimmers for years. After my last trimmer died, I went out in search of a quality alternative. I already owned a Stihl backpack blower and chainsaw, so I naturally gravitated toward the Stihl trimmer. I have not be disappointed in the least. It's well-built- reliable, very easy to start and man does it make trimming bushes a breeze. What took me so long to abandon cheap electric trimmers for the gas-powered alternative? There's simply no comparison. It takes a fraction of the time to trim hedges now. I couldn't be happier. I jokingly asked my wife if she knew of anything in the yard that needed trimming! It doesn't phase me at all anymore! If you're debating whether to invest - I say don't hesitate. A gas-powered Stihl is the ONLY way to go. I'm only sad that I didn't make the jump sooner, and save myself all the time and aggravation years ago!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 24 hours after purchase back to store and to shop Bought it on a Wednesday from local Big R (sales person took it to the back room to start it as per protocol and returned 15 minutes later out of breath and stated that this was a cold blooded machine in that it would start but would not come to full speed until totally warmed up, then stated that it ran fine) took it home and on Thursday tried to use it only to have issues starting and keeping an idle. When I did start the machine as soon as I touched the trigger it would die. Had to feather the trigger to get to full speed and found that if I ran it at full blast it would work fine. The unfortunate part is that full speed does not work as you climb a ladder, so I would allow it to go to idle, climb the ladder only to have it die upon touching the trigger. Here is the kicker, this was on the gas that was put into the machine from the dealer. When I refilled the tank same issues and again for third tank. A two hour job in six hours, a machine that would not idle or run as expected. Took it back to Big R and told them of the issues and a different sales rep for stihl said they could try to adjust the machine and said I could bring it in. We walked out to the parking lot and I handed him the machine and he went to start it (I tried not to laugh) and after about five minutes of pulling he asked if I had any suggestions on starting. I said try full throttle with choke off and it kicked over at full speed, he reduced it to a idle and touched the trigger and it died. Would not start after that. I was told that they would look at machine and I told him to ask his co-workers and take time to make the machine right. Informed that if they could not make it work right they would have to send it off to another location but this would be a 5 week turn around. 300 dollars for three tanks of gas of use (less than 24 hours of ownership) and back to the shop, at this time 1star if it get fixed in a short time may increase rating because stuff happens. I felt that as soon as I paid for machine I was on my own, no exchange, no return, you bought it we will see if we can fix it. I would like to give Big R a chance but I am not feeling warm a fuzzy about my chances about a good outcome. I initially had gone to Big R for a higher priced unit hl56 but was told they did not have one and it was a clearance item. I guess I should be grateful that I did not pay more for possible same issue. I will wait and see if it can be fixed or what option are left to me. I opted for the two year warranty with purchase of oil which I felt was a good deal but with this machine maybe it is a requirement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product makes for quick work. Great product like all STIHL products. Easy to start once you understand the process. Push side button in to lock trigger... push primer 3 times, put lever to full choke and pull cord. Once it pops take full choke off and pull cord again a couple times. Once it starts do not pull on trigger throttle. Leave it warm-up. for 10 seconds or so. Pump throttle and should be good to go. Be sure to drain gas out from one season to next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A win for Stihl! I've owned this hedge trimmer with 24" blades for ten years now. It has been exceptional. It gets fairly heavy use from me about 7 months of the year. I just this week had the blades sharpened for the first time. It still cut ok, but I had a couple areas in high use zones of the blades that looked a little too worn, and didn't quite cut like in the past. I've been very happy with its power, ease of starting and blade life!
