Did the job without draining the battery
I bought the HSA 56 to replace my plug in hedge trimmer that I've had for decades and as a substitute for my extended HL unit that can get pretty heavy. Because it is so quiet, very early one morning, before it got too hot, we trimmed and shaped up 5 - 6 foot tall Hollies as well as a much larger Nellie Stevens holly. In addition my wife used it to help shape a 6 foot long 3 ft high 2 ft wide hedge. I was happy that it cut through branches that were about 3/4" thick with ease. At the end of the ... read more process there were still two bars left on the AK 10 battery. I had another battery charged and ready to go, but I didn't need it. Overall we are happy with the HSA and a local charity is happy with the donated plug in hedge trimmer. My wife is hapoy that she can move away from hand sheers for trimming and shaping and can just drop in a battery and go to town. HSA Blower is next on the buy list.

    excellent hedge trimmer
Best trimmer Ive ever used just remarkable what this battery operated trimmer will cut and uses very little of the battery charge in the process. Its light and easy to handle and maneuver. Along with several other bushes that it trimmed up nicely I have several over grown red burning bushes and it took care of those easily. If I had any complaint it would be all the safety features that makes this trimmer a little awkward to use at times. A little electrical tape took care of my problem for all ... read more but one of what I deem to be the only safety switch that is needed in order to pull the trigger. All in all a very fine trimmer. I recommend the HSA56 highly..

Great tool, long-lasting battery, many safety features
My house is extensively landscaped. My Skil tool can trim nearly all of my bushes on a single battery charge, including nine holly bushes each the size of a padded arm chair. Recharging the battery takes only a few hours. I used to use a corded 110 volt hedge clipper with smaller teeth. It would bounce off the holly bushes. The Skil tool chomps its way through thick branches, and I do not need to worry about cutting through a cord. My Skill hedge trimmer has four safety features, if you ... read more include the battery safety which must be depressed twice to apply power to the cutting edges.

    HSA 66
Great trimmer! I bought it to use around a pool, so I would not have an extension cord around the water. I purchased the AP300 battery, and AL300 charger as well. We used it for around 3 hours and still had 75% of the battery life remaining.

    Light, powerful, quiet and clean.
This electric hedge trimmer is great. Has plenty of power, is light, less vibration than gas powered, clean and nice to turn on and off rather than having an engine idling while evaluating your work or moving to the next bush/hedge or shrub. So far it has not run out of juice before I finished a job or put it back on the charger while I break for lunch.

Great Power and Great Battery Life
I was very skeptical of battery powered equipment but after buying a new home and going solar I figured I would phase out my gas equipment. I saw all the you tube videos on stihl battery tools and finally decided to try the hedge trimmer. The convenience of instant start, no fuel or oil mixing, no spark plug changes, and no intake filter changes, appealed to me. During its first use, I used it to trim 8-9 shrubs that grow like they are on steroids and I was left impressed! The power was there ... read more and I finished the job in 15 minutes. Prior to that I was using a black and decker with a power cord that would take me 30-40 minutes because of the difficulty with maneuvering around the electric cord to cut the shrubs. I cannot comment on the longevity or durability but I think for the homeowner this tool far exceeds expectations.

HLA 65 One Year of Using the Product
This maybe the best lawn care product I have ever bought. Hedging is a very labor intensive job in my yard. I have tried manual, electric and gas powered. This is the first Stihl Hedger I've bought. The weight is incredibly light. The weight distribution is perfect. The extension length makes jobs at higher or lower heights so simple. The 4 hr battery is perfect too. I'm totally serious when I add, that I was concerned I've have to add lawn service to my home. Not now, because of the HLA ... read more 65. This product isn't cheap, but it is truly first class and so easy to use. Makes an awful job 'almost' fun. It definitely makes this job rewarding.

    Maiden Voyage
Just put to use my new HLA 65 hedge trimmer. Obviously too early to really evaluate dependability. However, I trimmed 10, 8 ft tall pittosporum hedge, which took me about an hour to trim all sides and tops. Filled a large 75 gallon can. The super sharp blades cut fairly thick branches 3/4" to 1" without any problem. I was able to control the trimmer to make perfectly even cuts. The trimmer is well balanced and seems light. I'm going to move the middle handle around to get it into a preferred ... read more position. A torx wrench is included with the machine to loosen the handle. The articulated head was easy to move with a pull down on the unlocking handle and grabbing the black plastic handle on the cutting head to change the head angle. I bought the AL 100 battery and the hours worth of trimming used 1/4 of the battery charge, for me, homeowner, that should be plenty.

    Nice Upgrade
I had an electrical trimmer and moved to this battery powered trimmer with an extension. Wow, what an upgrade. No more cut extension cords (yes, twice) and fewer trips up the ladder. I was able to perform all low/close/high operations with one trimmer. Yes, it's heavier, but the work was done much quicker, and I dare say was more quite than my old electrical. It is plenty powerful and sharp too. With effort, I could cut through one-inch branches. The battery load isn't all that much. I have ... read more several Stihl battery products and two sized batteries. The power draw was closer to the edge trimmer than the guzzling chain saw and blower.

The best hedge trimmer I came across.
In an effort to get my hedges under control, I went through about 6 or 7 hedge trimmers looking for one that would take care of the job. I used various expensive gas hedge trimmers, while these were powerful, they couldn't extend far enough. Then I switched to various electric hedge trimmers, while these extended further than the gas hedge trimmers, they had no where near the cutting power, so I was forced to leave somethings behind because the trimmer couldn't take care of it. But the HLA ... read more 85, wow. It's a little on the heavy side, but I think that's just because I'm super out of shape. This thing not only extends out to get me almost 9 feet of length (with how I can hold it), but it is also super powerful, it cuts through those branches that even the gas trimmers has a hard time with. It's a little on the spendy side considering you have to buy the battery and charger separately, but it is well worth it.

    Well Engineered
I like all of its features. Cutting a 9 to 12 ft high hedge 40 ft long was simplified. Battery life 4 hours on AP300, completed the job without needing recharge. Some constructive criticism from a fellow mechanical engineer on future engineering updates: - Shears could be 2 inches longer, usually high hedges tend to be wider as well. Mine is 8 ft wide. It defies the purpose of buying a long cutter when you still need to use the ladder to cut the mohak in the middle of hedge after both ... read more sides are done. - Extension shaft rotates side to side when cutting head is locked at 90' angle. Maybe key or slot the shaft for better tool stability. - Shaft locking bolt thread is too agressive. Lower the thread pitch for more precise locking control. As it is leads to: too loose or overtighting. - Bottom surface of tool at battery enclosure could be rubberized/ doubleshot molding to prevent cracking when resting on the ground. I had to rest bottom on the ground every cutter head adjustment.

    Elegant tool
I'm a professional landscaper who's been watching the Stihl battery line for some time. I decided to jump in and buy the HLA 85 as my first battery powered tool purchase. So far, I'm very happy with it! It feels space age and elegant. It's incredibly quiet, the variable speed trigger is great, and my battery (AP 180) still has four green bars on the charge meter even after pruning several small hedges. This is not a light weight tool, and is built with high quality materials; the cutting side ... read more is still almost as heavy as a gas powered unit, but without the gas power head, it is much lighter to carry around overall. I'm very much looking forward to getting the other battery tools, as I feel this is the way of the future especially as battery technology matures.

First In Illinois to get one!!
I saw this little guy over in the UK and Germany back in early 2017. It was a must-have! Wasn't heard of or available in the USA. So I contacted my dealer and had one shipped over. Now it seems everyone has one which is a good sign. Love this handy tool. Use it almost every day. So light and does the job! The plastic cover that it comes with was replaced very quickly with an actual Stihl orange trimmer cover. Battery charges super fast and internal is metal gears, not that plastic stuff competitors use.

    My new favorite tool
I purchased this at the NWFGS in February. Since then, I have used it to cut down groundcover bamboo and Japanese blood grass and to mow some patches of other groundcover plants that had been damaged by an extreme cold spell. In each case, the tool cut HOURS off the time that it would have taken me to finish the jobs with the hand tools that I (or my gardener) normally would have used. In each case, I used the tool for several hours without needing to recharge it, but I would like to have a back ... read more up battery. My only complaint is that I can't find a replacement battery [yet?]. I've already recommended it to my gardening friends (and my gardener). Love, love, love this tool.

This product is a true winner....
First of all, I am a Landscape Architect and own a large landscape construction company. I came home one day and my wife brought home this HSA 25 STIHL trimmer to use on our bushes. I already had 2 of your power gas trimmers that we love, but they are too hard for my wife to handle. I wanted to laugh at her purchase as I had purchased some smaller battery trimmers in the past and they were a joke, but didn’t dare until I tried it. Well, this HDA 25 is unbelievable. Not only does it cut well, the ... read more battery lasts as long as you will want to trim at one time. I have not run it out of power yet, and it does a wonderful job as long as you don’t try to trim some 2-3 year old thicker branches. I highly recommend this tool for new growth on Bushes and especially on ground covers like Vinca and Euonymus. I AM A BELIEVER!

Great Quality Product for Occasional Use
Purchased the HSA 45 Battery Hedge Trimmer on 7/1/2018. Charged up the onboard battery, then trimmed a 10-foot x 6-foot bush. Product worked well and the battery was at 1/2 charge level after 30 minutes. Stihl currently sells three levels of battery Hedge Trimmers: -- HSA 45 (built-in battery, OCCASIONAL use) -- HSA 56 (snap-in AK 10 Battery + AL101 charger, FREQUENT use) -- HSA 66 (snap-in AP 300 Battery + AL300 charger, EXTENSIVE use) If I wanted more power or planned more frequent ... read more use, I would purchase one of the more expensive products. However, the HSA 45 works great for my needs.

    Time saver
For 50 years been using junky hedge trimmers. Broke down and purchased "to me" expensive ones! Omg..Stihl where have you been all my life? Cut down the cutting time for my 39 hedges to one half the time. This is more than amazing...its a miracle. At age 65, being female the weight was not cumbersome at all to use and lift up and down. One very very happy customer. Barb polakoff

    Excellent product
I've been using your HSA 45 for more than a year. We have a 1 acre yard with LOTS of cutting jobs. Excellent piece of equipment! Light weight, maneuverable, cuts well, very easy to use. Battery life is great, lasting through majority of trimming chores. I would highly recommend this product to anyone. 5 stars.
