    excellent hedge trimmer
Best trimmer Ive ever used just remarkable what this battery operated trimmer will cut and uses very little of the battery charge in the process. Its light and easy to handle and maneuver. Along with several other bushes that it trimmed up nicely I have several over grown red burning bushes and it took care of those easily. If I had any complaint it would be all the safety features that makes this trimmer a little awkward to use at times. A little electrical tape took care of my problem for all ... read more but one of what I deem to be the only safety switch that is needed in order to pull the trigger. All in all a very fine trimmer. I recommend the HSA56 highly..

    Expensive but works very well
I live in the Los Angeles area. I need to trim my hedges two to three times per year. My gas hedge trimmer would not start [again]. Probably the gas went bad [again]. I get tired of adding new gas with oil and using only a portion to trim, and then storing the gas only to see it go bad months later [again]. And I do not want another corded electric tool. So I investigated the battery trimmers. On special sale, I purchased the FSA56 string trimmer and the HSA56 hedge trimmer and therefore got two ... read more batteries and chargers. I didn't think the hedge trimmer would hold up to the gas powered trimmer but it does. It is easier to use, lighter, and cuts just as well if not better. Having two batteries allowed me to run for a long time and I still had half-power left in the second battery when I was done. Stihl, you made a believer out of me for battery powered tools.

Did the job without draining the battery
I bought the HSA 56 to replace my plug in hedge trimmer that I've had for decades and as a substitute for my extended HL unit that can get pretty heavy. Because it is so quiet, very early one morning, before it got too hot, we trimmed and shaped up 5 - 6 foot tall Hollies as well as a much larger Nellie Stevens holly. In addition my wife used it to help shape a 6 foot long 3 ft high 2 ft wide hedge. I was happy that it cut through branches that were about 3/4" thick with ease. At the end of the ... read more process there were still two bars left on the AK 10 battery. I had another battery charged and ready to go, but I didn't need it. Overall we are happy with the HSA and a local charity is happy with the donated plug in hedge trimmer. My wife is hapoy that she can move away from hand sheers for trimming and shaping and can just drop in a battery and go to town. HSA Blower is next on the buy list.

Been down under and back with my Stihl
We have a steep slope (AKA cliff) behind our house that gets heavy brush overgrowth that has to be taken back regularly. I repel down and go for it. There is no other tool to use. My Stihl HSA 66 makes quick work of the entire job, including those pesky alder saplings, up to 3/4", no problem. My wife calls it "down under and back". Oh and there's our 20 foot tall Leylandii Cypress hedge. No problem. Straight as an arrow, flat as a board. The hedge, I mean.

This product is highly engineered and has the Stihl quality I expected.
I needed a hedge trimmer that was light, powerful, and of exceptional quality. Since I own several STIHL products and have owned STIHL products for many years I am very confident that the durability and quality are in every one of their products that carry the name. I wanted a battery operated trimmer but did not want the increased weight in the trimmer. I purchased the battery belt and it works just wonderful. The standard battery will trim a large amount of shrubbery without recharging.

    HSA 66
Great trimmer! I bought it to use around a pool, so I would not have an extension cord around the water. I purchased the AP300 battery, and AL300 charger as well. We used it for around 3 hours and still had 75% of the battery life remaining.

    Monster
I bought this model to trim an overgrown 20 year old Privet hedge. Cut through 1”+ branches easily. Do not buy this model without the available harness for the battery pack it will literally pull your shorts off! Seriously this model does the trick.

Great tool for fall perennial garden.
I bought the HSA 94 R for my wife to cut down perennials in the fall. We used to use a modified string trimmer with a saw blade but it was too dangerous. This works great in cutting tough perennial stems and even fleshy hostas. There is plenty of power which seemed to outlast us and a nice long cutter bar. We used it for about 45 minutes until we had to go in for dinner and there was no indication of any power loss. The handle and grip are very comfortable. The only issue we have is that there ... read more are four safety triggers plus the key that must all be engaged in order to start the trimmer. It takes a little getting used to but we eventually got the hang of it. Our old process involved me cutting the plants down with the modified string trimmer and my wife coming along and picking up the mess I made. Now I grasp the plant and gather it together and she takes the HSA 94 R and cuts the plant at the base. I deposit the plant in the garden trailer. Done! My wife commented that this was one of her all time favorite gifts.

Great Quality Product for Occasional Use
Purchased the HSA 45 Battery Hedge Trimmer on 7/1/2018. Charged up the onboard battery, then trimmed a 10-foot x 6-foot bush. Product worked well and the battery was at 1/2 charge level after 30 minutes. Stihl currently sells three levels of battery Hedge Trimmers: -- HSA 45 (built-in battery, OCCASIONAL use) -- HSA 56 (snap-in AK 10 Battery + AL101 charger, FREQUENT use) -- HSA 66 (snap-in AP 300 Battery + AL300 charger, EXTENSIVE use) If I wanted more power or planned more frequent ... read more use, I would purchase one of the more expensive products. However, the HSA 45 works great for my needs.

    Excellent product
I've been using your HSA 45 for more than a year. We have a 1 acre yard with LOTS of cutting jobs. Excellent piece of equipment! Light weight, maneuverable, cuts well, very easy to use. Battery life is great, lasting through majority of trimming chores. I would highly recommend this product to anyone. 5 stars.

This product is lightweight and easy to use
I just purchased the HSA 45 hedge trimmer and was very pleased with the first time I used it last week. Has great safety controls and I trimmed all my hedges in less time than with my electric trimmer.

The best hedge trimmer I came across.
In an effort to get my hedges under control, I went through about 6 or 7 hedge trimmers looking for one that would take care of the job. I used various expensive gas hedge trimmers, while these were powerful, they couldn't extend far enough. Then I switched to various electric hedge trimmers, while these extended further than the gas hedge trimmers, they had no where near the cutting power, so I was forced to leave somethings behind because the trimmer couldn't take care of it. But the HLA ... read more 85, wow. It's a little on the heavy side, but I think that's just because I'm super out of shape. This thing not only extends out to get me almost 9 feet of length (with how I can hold it), but it is also super powerful, it cuts through those branches that even the gas trimmers has a hard time with. It's a little on the spendy side considering you have to buy the battery and charger separately, but it is well worth it.

    Well Engineered
I like all of its features. Cutting a 9 to 12 ft high hedge 40 ft long was simplified. Battery life 4 hours on AP300, completed the job without needing recharge. Some constructive criticism from a fellow mechanical engineer on future engineering updates: - Shears could be 2 inches longer, usually high hedges tend to be wider as well. Mine is 8 ft wide. It defies the purpose of buying a long cutter when you still need to use the ladder to cut the mohak in the middle of hedge after both ... read more sides are done. - Extension shaft rotates side to side when cutting head is locked at 90' angle. Maybe key or slot the shaft for better tool stability. - Shaft locking bolt thread is too agressive. Lower the thread pitch for more precise locking control. As it is leads to: too loose or overtighting. - Bottom surface of tool at battery enclosure could be rubberized/ doubleshot molding to prevent cracking when resting on the ground. I had to rest bottom on the ground every cutter head adjustment.

    Elegant tool
I'm a professional landscaper who's been watching the Stihl battery line for some time. I decided to jump in and buy the HLA 85 as my first battery powered tool purchase. So far, I'm very happy with it! It feels space age and elegant. It's incredibly quiet, the variable speed trigger is great, and my battery (AP 180) still has four green bars on the charge meter even after pruning several small hedges. This is not a light weight tool, and is built with high quality materials; the cutting side ... read more is still almost as heavy as a gas powered unit, but without the gas power head, it is much lighter to carry around overall. I'm very much looking forward to getting the other battery tools, as I feel this is the way of the future especially as battery technology matures.

    Great Product
The HSA-25 garden shears made easy work of 25+ shrubs in an afternoon, all on one battery. Much lighter and easier to work with than a gas powered hedge trimmer, specifically for boxwoods and smaller shrubs. Great product and well worth the investment.

    My favorite garden tool
These shears are the best thing to happen to my gardening and landscaping life! They cut through field grass, vines, weeds, and shrub stems easily. I probably use them when I should be using a big weed whacker instead. But they are mini-workhorses, and the battery lasts forever. I did order an extra battery so they hardly ever have down time (poor shears!) Oh, and another plus is that arthritis in the hands won't slow you down with these Stihl shears. Thank you, Stihl, for making these!

    Works awesome!
Looking at the reviews of several this one had the best. I have arthritis and can’t use hand trimmer to prune my rose bushes and other items. This tool when through ½” branches like butter. I was able to do a 2 hour job in 15 minutes pruning 2 extra large rose bushes, hedges, pampas grasses and more. Highly recommend this item. My hands didn’t hurt, light weight and sharp. After using for a total of 15 minutes the battery was still fully charged.
