    Lightweight and very powerful
This is an excellent product. I had owned an gas powered Stihl hedge trimmer for at least 20 years that was a great product. The only problem was with only using a couple of times a year, it was hard to keep running. Now all I have to do is stick another battery in it and keep going. Stihl also has a great deal on the batteries now so I just purchased a second one to always have a spare. The trimmer is more than powerful enough for homeowners to use. A battery powered blower is probably going ... read more to be my next purchase. Stihl is definitely the leader is these products!

    Expensive but works very well
I live in the Los Angeles area. I need to trim my hedges two to three times per year. My gas hedge trimmer would not start [again]. Probably the gas went bad [again]. I get tired of adding new gas with oil and using only a portion to trim, and then storing the gas only to see it go bad months later [again]. And I do not want another corded electric tool. So I investigated the battery trimmers. On special sale, I purchased the FSA56 string trimmer and the HSA56 hedge trimmer and therefore got two ... read more batteries and chargers. I didn't think the hedge trimmer would hold up to the gas powered trimmer but it does. It is easier to use, lighter, and cuts just as well if not better. Having two batteries allowed me to run for a long time and I still had half-power left in the second battery when I was done. Stihl, you made a believer out of me for battery powered tools.

Changed my mind about battery lawn equipment
I am amazed by the power and the run time of this trimmer. I have always bought gas equipment but my wife wanted a battery string trimmer, and while I was there I bought the HSA 56, too. My justification was the shared battery with my wife's new trimmer. I figured I could swap batteries out and keep going. The fact is that I get tired before the first battery gives out! Perhaps when the weather cools off I'll be able to find out how long a battery actually lasts. I regularly cut branches about ... read more 5/8" and the trimmer never hiccups. Now if only they would design a trimmer that picked up all the cuttings…

More than enough power to get the job done
Went with the AP300 battery just to make sure I had plenty of power. Still shows a 3/4 charge with about 2 hours of use. Wondering if I should have gone with the smaller battery for the weight savings. This thing does have some weight to it so you get a good upper body workout when using it. By looking at it and using it, it becomes obvious that this is a well made and serious tool. So great to be able to do tree shrub trimming without getting on a ladder. Took me about 45 minutes to do what ... read more used to take me half of a day. I would recommend.

The best hedge trimmer I came across.
In an effort to get my hedges under control, I went through about 6 or 7 hedge trimmers looking for one that would take care of the job. I used various expensive gas hedge trimmers, while these were powerful, they couldn't extend far enough. Then I switched to various electric hedge trimmers, while these extended further than the gas hedge trimmers, they had no where near the cutting power, so I was forced to leave somethings behind because the trimmer couldn't take care of it. But the HLA ... read more 85, wow. It's a little on the heavy side, but I think that's just because I'm super out of shape. This thing not only extends out to get me almost 9 feet of length (with how I can hold it), but it is also super powerful, it cuts through those branches that even the gas trimmers has a hard time with. It's a little on the spendy side considering you have to buy the battery and charger separately, but it is well worth it.

    Suprisingly great
I had the chance to use this unit along with the pole pruner and two of the 300 batteries. The hedge trimmer had great power and the telescoping pole was extremely useful. I did hedges all day on just one and half batteries which is inconceivable. When doing hedges I tend to take small breaks throughout the day, so it's great having that quick start/stop capability and even better to toss the ear protection on hot days. I have been through multiple 100 series stihl hedge trimmers and I still ... read more love them, but I will say I accomplished more with this unit. I'm a hard critic so here are my two dislikes: 1- the head should have more inbetween articulate settings as I needed them multiple times and 2 - the head is heavy compared to the battery side, which is extremely fatiguing to your forearm/bicep closest to the trimmer head. Overall great piece of equipment to have if you do a lot of big hedges.

First In Illinois to get one!!
I saw this little guy over in the UK and Germany back in early 2017. It was a must-have! Wasn't heard of or available in the USA. So I contacted my dealer and had one shipped over. Now it seems everyone has one which is a good sign. Love this handy tool. Use it almost every day. So light and does the job! The plastic cover that it comes with was replaced very quickly with an actual Stihl orange trimmer cover. Battery charges super fast and internal is metal gears, not that plastic stuff competitors use.

    where's the longer handle?
Just got myself the hsa25 trimmer. I did the trimming of my yard and It did a great job. I have a bad back, so I can't wield a traditional trimmer. But bending over is not healthy for me either. Stihl sells a longer handle for this trimmer in Europe and Russia but has decided not to sell it in the USA. .

    My new favorite tool
I purchased this at the NWFGS in February. Since then, I have used it to cut down groundcover bamboo and Japanese blood grass and to mow some patches of other groundcover plants that had been damaged by an extreme cold spell. In each case, the tool cut HOURS off the time that it would have taken me to finish the jobs with the hand tools that I (or my gardener) normally would have used. In each case, I used the tool for several hours without needing to recharge it, but I would like to have a back ... read more up battery. My only complaint is that I can't find a replacement battery [yet?]. I've already recommended it to my gardening friends (and my gardener). Love, love, love this tool.

    Great for small yards
I have only used the trimmer twice, but it has met my expectations. After trimming three medium sized bushes, there was no noticeable battery drain as measured by the built-in meter. I really like the light weight - much less strain on my shoulders than with heavier models. I believe that it meets the specs for size of branch it will cut, but it did stall out when I tried to remove one year's growth on a mature laurel. So I will just trim at six month intervals.

    Nice little trimmer....not too dependable
I got this hedge trimmer for Mother's Day 2018 to primarily be used for trimming vines (mostly honeysuckle) on about 500' of chain link fence. In my experience a fully charged battery lasts about 30 minutes with constant use. It is lightweight and easy to operate. So far, so good. The issue I had was, even after spraying the blades with Stihl resin remover/lube as instructed by the salesman, if the trimmer was idle for a few weeks the motor would not engage the blades. It seemed to be stuck. I ... read more returned the trimmer to the dealer and was given a replacement. The next time this happened I left it at the dealership for two weeks to see if they could fix the problem. They could not, and I was given another replacement. I did not use the trimmer during the winter months and when I tried to use it just last week I again had the same issue.

    Lightweight and Powerful
I bought the hedge trimmer because it was so light. I didn't expect it to perform as well as it does. I recommend this trimmer for routine homeowner landscaping.

    Monster
I bought this model to trim an overgrown 20 year old Privet hedge. Cut through 1”+ branches easily. Do not buy this model without the available harness for the battery pack it will literally pull your shorts off! Seriously this model does the trick.

Great tool for fall perennial garden.
I bought the HSA 94 R for my wife to cut down perennials in the fall. We used to use a modified string trimmer with a saw blade but it was too dangerous. This works great in cutting tough perennial stems and even fleshy hostas. There is plenty of power which seemed to outlast us and a nice long cutter bar. We used it for about 45 minutes until we had to go in for dinner and there was no indication of any power loss. The handle and grip are very comfortable. The only issue we have is that there ... read more are four safety triggers plus the key that must all be engaged in order to start the trimmer. It takes a little getting used to but we eventually got the hang of it. Our old process involved me cutting the plants down with the modified string trimmer and my wife coming along and picking up the mess I made. Now I grasp the plant and gather it together and she takes the HSA 94 R and cuts the plant at the base. I deposit the plant in the garden trailer. Done! My wife commented that this was one of her all time favorite gifts.

    Priceless Tool
I am extremely impressed and happy with the HLA 65. It does an amazing job cutting blackberry bushes down, ivy, light brush, etc. Super quiet and light. Great quality. I cut light brush for 30 minutes, and the battery was about half. Sold on Lithium Ion. Worth the price. Make sure to get the Stihl Hedge Trimmer blade lubricant/cleaner aerosol can, too.

    Nice hedge trimmer
This is my sixth Stihl implement, and it's a beauty. Quality piece of machinery, works perfectly like you'd expect it to. Now, i picked this trimmer because the specs indicated it weighs 9.4 lbs with the AP100 battery, a full 2 lbs. lighter than with the AP300. i bought the AP100 because I only need 30-40 minutes of run time (worst case), and the lighter total weight appealed to me, but therein lies the only negative. It's not a huge issue, but it's worth mentioning. With the AP100, most of the ... read more weight seems like it's on the motor/blade end, so the trimmer's a bit unwieldy. I have not used the included shoulder strap yet, so I'll give that a try next time. My advice though, is to buy the AP300 battery for it whether you need the additional run time or not. The balance will be much better. I was looking forward to trying it with both batteries in the store, but this trimmer had to be special ordered so I bought it sight unseen and bought the AP100 based on specs alone.

    Nice Upgrade
I had an electrical trimmer and moved to this battery powered trimmer with an extension. Wow, what an upgrade. No more cut extension cords (yes, twice) and fewer trips up the ladder. I was able to perform all low/close/high operations with one trimmer. Yes, it's heavier, but the work was done much quicker, and I dare say was more quite than my old electrical. It is plenty powerful and sharp too. With effort, I could cut through one-inch branches. The battery load isn't all that much. I have ... read more several Stihl battery products and two sized batteries. The power draw was closer to the edge trimmer than the guzzling chain saw and blower.
