Great Power and Great Battery Life
I was very skeptical of battery powered equipment but after buying a new home and going solar I figured I would phase out my gas equipment. I saw all the you tube videos on stihl battery tools and finally decided to try the hedge trimmer. The convenience of instant start, no fuel or oil mixing, no spark plug changes, and no intake filter changes, appealed to me. During its first use, I used it to trim 8-9 shrubs that grow like they are on steroids and I was left impressed! The power was there ... read more and I finished the job in 15 minutes. Prior to that I was using a black and decker with a power cord that would take me 30-40 minutes because of the difficulty with maneuvering around the electric cord to cut the shrubs. I cannot comment on the longevity or durability but I think for the homeowner this tool far exceeds expectations.

Good power, battery fully charged in less than 10 minutes
Good power, cut through a tough hedge with 3/4 in branches in some spots and did not bog down. The blade is extremely sharp, probably sharper than all the knives in my drawer. It was so sharp it scared my wife and she said she wasn't going to use it. After she saw me cut through the hedge she couldn't wait and asked me to leave one for her.

    Gaslike power without the gas
The power of this is HSA66 is only slightly less powerful than the HS80 and after almost 10 years of the HS80 2 stroke smell I really like the HSA66. After the first hour or so of trimming we were nearly done with the job when I was walking around looking everything over before the blowers started. I saw a bush we missed so I picked up the HSA and while looking at the bush I instinctively pulled the center of the trimmer like I was trying to pull start the HS80. My guys all started laughing and ... read more it wasn't until I looked down I realized I had just tried to "pull start" a battery power trimmer. Ya, its that similar. Batteries are a real option for professional daily use. We are starting to phase out the HS80's and do not anticipate buying anymore HS81's.

    Another well thought out product
I've owned this tool for just a few weeks & so far I'm very impressed. I already have the battery powered saw, two ap180 batteries & the al100 charger. Being more than happy with the saw (although it has its limitations), I took the plunge & purchased the telescopic trimmer. The run time is a lot longer than the saw, easily an hour. Using this tool combined with a little tidying up in between, shifting stepladders etc. This tool + two batteries & the slow charger is easily on a par with my other ... read more cutters. It has a one year guarantee (two for the home user), & the quality you expect from stihl. Only downer is not being able to use it in heavy rain. Les noise, no petrol fumes & spillages & the customer pays to charge the battery. It just makes sense. Very pleased!

    WORKS LONGER THEN I CAN
Bought this trimmer after I'd used every other type, 2 cycle, string trimmer attachment, electric and now battery. It out performs any of the others I've tried and the battery life will out last me. I used it on full charge and after 2 hours of trimming it had only dropped 25%. Put it on charger and back to 100% in less then 30 min. The extended reach in very nice in trimming wide and taller shrubs. The trimmer's wider jaw width makes it very efficient on most bushes I've trimmed. I going back ... read more for other battery powered tools since fuel is such a problem. It's a little heavy compared to shorter, smaller tools but takes much less time to complete project.

    Well Engineered
I like all of its features. Cutting a 9 to 12 ft high hedge 40 ft long was simplified. Battery life 4 hours on AP300, completed the job without needing recharge. Some constructive criticism from a fellow mechanical engineer on future engineering updates: - Shears could be 2 inches longer, usually high hedges tend to be wider as well. Mine is 8 ft wide. It defies the purpose of buying a long cutter when you still need to use the ladder to cut the mohak in the middle of hedge after both ... read more sides are done. - Extension shaft rotates side to side when cutting head is locked at 90' angle. Maybe key or slot the shaft for better tool stability. - Shaft locking bolt thread is too agressive. Lower the thread pitch for more precise locking control. As it is leads to: too loose or overtighting. - Bottom surface of tool at battery enclosure could be rubberized/ doubleshot molding to prevent cracking when resting on the ground. I had to rest bottom on the ground every cutter head adjustment.

    Priceless Tool
I am extremely impressed and happy with the HLA 65. It does an amazing job cutting blackberry bushes down, ivy, light brush, etc. Super quiet and light. Great quality. I cut light brush for 30 minutes, and the battery was about half. Sold on Lithium Ion. Worth the price. Make sure to get the Stihl Hedge Trimmer blade lubricant/cleaner aerosol can, too.

This is an awesome hedge trimmer!
This hedge trimmer exceeds my expectations. I am an old gas powered equipment guy, so battery powered devices have to prove themselves. This machine has power equal to any gas trimmer and cuts one inch forsythia branches like butter. Cutting power is unfazed by angle or running time. Did over 200 feet of forsythia and battery still has 75% left on status lights. No more mixing gas and oil. No carburetor issues from storage or fuel quality. No noise for me or neighbors. Bought bigger battery and ... read more rapid charger so I can buy other tools someday. Worked at a Sthil dealer back in the 70's so I know quality is superior and service will be there if needed. These units can be sharpened, unlike the cheap cutters that jam and can't be serviced. The price may shock you, but these tools are worth every penny. I can stay off ladders now, so safety factor is improved doing my own work at 62 years of age. My neighbor bought a gas model and now has buyer's remorse after seeing what this battery powered unit can do.

    Great tool
I'm a landscaper and I bought this tool about 2 years ago. At that time it was relatively new to market and I was hesitant to spend the money required for the trimmer, battery & charger. So far it has been one of the best tool decisions I've made. Works as good as my previous Stihl gas powered hedge trimmer with no starting problems or any other issues related to gas powered equipment. I especially appreciate 0 emissions and low noise! Great job Stihl! P.S. I want to move to the battery ... read more blower & trimmer but so far the run times are limiting. Hopefully that will continue to improve.

Ideal for shearing heather, lavender & grasses
I have been searching long and hard for a low vibration cordless trimmer to spare my arthritic hands and wrists for the hundreds of heather, lavender and ornamental grasses I have to shear annually. This is ideal. I sheared plants that used to take me a couple of days in a couple of hours. And feel no after effects in my hands or wrists. It's lightness and small size makes it easy to control so I ended up with much better looking results than a regular hedge trimmer. It is definitely not for ... read more thicker woody stems. It cuts clean too. I didn't try the grass shears. The neat little carrying case is nice to although I couldn't figure out how to secure the hand tool so it doesn't slide out. I can't remember how it was secured in the first place.

Made my Hedge trimming faster and much easier!
Very handy and convenient. Lightweight and very maneuverable. Great for hedges with smaller limbs. Battery run time and cutting power ok - but both could be a little better. Ran out of power about 15 minutes prior to being finished with front hedges.

    Love at first sight!
I could not believe how light this hedge trimmer was when I first picked it up. It works beautifully. I cut 32 shrubs, including several hollies and one very large holly and the battery still hasn't quit. These aren't for bushes that are out of hand and need an overhaul, but for shrubs that are kept trimmed every couple of months or so. They are easier to use than my larger Stihl HS45 gas hedge trimmers, which can handle the larger, more aggressive tasks. These will be my new "go to" hedge ... read more trimmers because of their incredibly light weight and how beautifully and easily they cut. I would highly recommend this hedge trimmer. It has an internal lithium battery and a battery level meter as well as a removable key for safety from accidental engagement. The HSA 45 also has adequate length and reach at 20". Another great product from Stihl, the company that never, ever settles for second best. Stihl is #1 for a reason. They never compromise their standards of perfection.

    Expensive but works very well
I live in the Los Angeles area. I need to trim my hedges two to three times per year. My gas hedge trimmer would not start [again]. Probably the gas went bad [again]. I get tired of adding new gas with oil and using only a portion to trim, and then storing the gas only to see it go bad months later [again]. And I do not want another corded electric tool. So I investigated the battery trimmers. On special sale, I purchased the FSA56 string trimmer and the HSA56 hedge trimmer and therefore got two ... read more batteries and chargers. I didn't think the hedge trimmer would hold up to the gas powered trimmer but it does. It is easier to use, lighter, and cuts just as well if not better. Having two batteries allowed me to run for a long time and I still had half-power left in the second battery when I was done. Stihl, you made a believer out of me for battery powered tools.

    Awesome Trimmer
I used the trimmer one weekend and it was powerful, reliable, and safe to use. The battery charged quickly and held it's charge well.

    Light weight and powerful
This hedge trimmer is light weight which makes it easy to maneuver but it has enough power to get the job done efficiently. Great tool for the male or female gardener!
