Battery Hedge Trimmers

Whether you use them daily, or just once a season, battery-powered hedge trimmers fit the bill. They have no engine to maintain, or gasoline to keep fresh. That means you can use them as much, or as little, as you need without the worry of stale gas. They’re also lightweight, start instantly and deliver quiet, powerful performance. Good power, battery fully charged in less than 10 minutes
Good power, cut through a tough hedge with 3/4 in branches in some spots and did not bog down. The blade is extremely sharp, probably sharper than all the knives in my drawer. It was so sharp it scared my wife and she said she wasn't going to use it. After she saw me cut through the hedge she couldn't wait and asked me to leave one for her.

Great Power and Great Battery Life
I was very skeptical of battery powered equipment but after buying a new home and going solar I figured I would phase out my gas equipment. I saw all the you tube videos on stihl battery tools and finally decided to try the hedge trimmer. The convenience of instant start, no fuel or oil mixing, no spark plug changes, and no intake filter changes, appealed to me. During its first use, I used it to trim 8-9 shrubs that grow like they are on steroids and I was left impressed! The power was there ... read more and I finished the job in 15 minutes. Prior to that I was using a black and decker with a power cord that would take me 30-40 minutes because of the difficulty with maneuvering around the electric cord to cut the shrubs. I cannot comment on the longevity or durability but I think for the homeowner this tool far exceeds expectations.

Been down under and back with my Stihl
We have a steep slope (AKA cliff) behind our house that gets heavy brush overgrowth that has to be taken back regularly. I repel down and go for it. There is no other tool to use. My Stihl HSA 66 makes quick work of the entire job, including those pesky alder saplings, up to 3/4", no problem. My wife calls it "down under and back". Oh and there's our 20 foot tall Leylandii Cypress hedge. No problem. Straight as an arrow, flat as a board. The hedge, I mean.

    WORKS LONGER THEN I CAN
Bought this trimmer after I'd used every other type, 2 cycle, string trimmer attachment, electric and now battery. It out performs any of the others I've tried and the battery life will out last me. I used it on full charge and after 2 hours of trimming it had only dropped 25%. Put it on charger and back to 100% in less then 30 min. The extended reach in very nice in trimming wide and taller shrubs. The trimmer's wider jaw width makes it very efficient on most bushes I've trimmed. I going back ... read more for other battery powered tools since fuel is such a problem. It's a little heavy compared to shorter, smaller tools but takes much less time to complete project.

    Elegant tool
I'm a professional landscaper who's been watching the Stihl battery line for some time. I decided to jump in and buy the HLA 85 as my first battery powered tool purchase. So far, I'm very happy with it! It feels space age and elegant. It's incredibly quiet, the variable speed trigger is great, and my battery (AP 180) still has four green bars on the charge meter even after pruning several small hedges. This is not a light weight tool, and is built with high quality materials; the cutting side ... read more is still almost as heavy as a gas powered unit, but without the gas power head, it is much lighter to carry around overall. I'm very much looking forward to getting the other battery tools, as I feel this is the way of the future especially as battery technology matures.

    Well Engineered
I like all of its features. Cutting a 9 to 12 ft high hedge 40 ft long was simplified. Battery life 4 hours on AP300, completed the job without needing recharge. Some constructive criticism from a fellow mechanical engineer on future engineering updates: - Shears could be 2 inches longer, usually high hedges tend to be wider as well. Mine is 8 ft wide. It defies the purpose of buying a long cutter when you still need to use the ladder to cut the mohak in the middle of hedge after both ... read more sides are done. - Extension shaft rotates side to side when cutting head is locked at 90' angle. Maybe key or slot the shaft for better tool stability. - Shaft locking bolt thread is too agressive. Lower the thread pitch for more precise locking control. As it is leads to: too loose or overtighting. - Bottom surface of tool at battery enclosure could be rubberized/ doubleshot molding to prevent cracking when resting on the ground. I had to rest bottom on the ground every cutter head adjustment.

    Well built, balanced, good power
I have 300 feet of laurel hedge along with other tall shrubs that require trimming 1 - 2 times per year. The battery powered trimmer avoids the hassle of gas powered tools that don't tolerate inactivity for 3-4 months. The 3 hours +/- run time with the AP 300 lithium battery is more than enough time for my sessions with the trimmer (that's actually 4+ hours of working time since the trimmer is not constantly running when I step up and down off the ladder and remove clippings from the work area). ... read more The trimmer cuts well. I have used it for 5 weekends now. Wish I had this tool years ago.

HLA 65 One Year of Using the Product
This maybe the best lawn care product I have ever bought. Hedging is a very labor intensive job in my yard. I have tried manual, electric and gas powered. This is the first Stihl Hedger I've bought. The weight is incredibly light. The weight distribution is perfect. The extension length makes jobs at higher or lower heights so simple. The 4 hr battery is perfect too. I'm totally serious when I add, that I was concerned I've have to add lawn service to my home. Not now, because of the HLA ... read more 65. This product isn't cheap, but it is truly first class and so easy to use. Makes an awful job 'almost' fun. It definitely makes this job rewarding.

    Just keeps impressing me!
Was a little dubious when I first handled this in the shop as the balance seemed a little weird and blade speed a little slow (after using petrol and electric trimmers professionally since '95). However, every time I use them, they just keep impressing me more and more. With the AP300 battery, I can start a job at 8am and most times the battery is still going by 1pm - that includes a bit of clean up and ladder shifting inbetween cutting (and a coffee!) . It is such a bonus not to have to ... read more constantly fill up with 2 stroke or drag an extension lead behind me. The slightly slower blade speed has not been an issue with even large jobs taking the same time as 2 stroke/electric machines. My only criticism is that it's usually a two handed job to alter the angle on the cutting head which is quite stiff. They're also quite a bit lighter to handle than similar 2 stroke/electric machines. I've probably used over a dozen hedge trimmers over the last 22 years or so and these are the most enjoyable to use.
