Did the job without draining the battery
I bought the HSA 56 to replace my plug in hedge trimmer that I've had for decades and as a substitute for my extended HL unit that can get pretty heavy. Because it is so quiet, very early one morning, before it got too hot, we trimmed and shaped up 5 - 6 foot tall Hollies as well as a much larger Nellie Stevens holly. In addition my wife used it to help shape a 6 foot long 3 ft high 2 ft wide hedge. I was happy that it cut through branches that were about 3/4" thick with ease. At the end of the ... read more process there were still two bars left on the AK 10 battery. I had another battery charged and ready to go, but I didn't need it. Overall we are happy with the HSA and a local charity is happy with the donated plug in hedge trimmer. My wife is hapoy that she can move away from hand sheers for trimming and shaping and can just drop in a battery and go to town. HSA Blower is next on the buy list.

This product is a beast !
This is the first time I have ever had a hedge trimmer. I used to use the hand trimmers but my arms can't do it any more. I tried 2 other brands to see if I could use them. Even the electric ones were too heavy or they had no power to cut my bushes . When I tried the Stihl HSA 56, I was very surprised. Even with the battery in, it was very manageable for me. Once I figured out how to sweep across the bush it was like cutting butter. I am a 68 year old woman who enjoys my yard work, and this ... read more trimmer even cut branches on my holly trees. I would recommend this to any one who wants to make there job easier. Thankful !, Kathy

    Absolutely Love It!
I run a professional landscape maintenance company. We run all Stihl equipment from the big blowers to trimmers to chainsaws to the biggest Kombi system they make. We also run the largest gas powered hedge trimmer and while it’s a beast, it’s just too big for a lot of the smaller everyday trim jobs. So I decided to give this one a try. Grabbed it and a spare AK20 battery. It’s now become my personal main hedge trimmer. I’ve done everything from Blackberry vines to 100 ft long Thujia hedges with ... read more it. The weight is easy on the shoulders...which is important at 54 years old...and it rarely has issues cutting through even larger stuff. I’m happy enough that I’ll be picking up the matching blower and plan to give the trimmer a go (so long as I can put a Speed Feed Head on it!)

    Another well thought out product
I've owned this tool for just a few weeks & so far I'm very impressed. I already have the battery powered saw, two ap180 batteries & the al100 charger. Being more than happy with the saw (although it has its limitations), I took the plunge & purchased the telescopic trimmer. The run time is a lot longer than the saw, easily an hour. Using this tool combined with a little tidying up in between, shifting stepladders etc. This tool + two batteries & the slow charger is easily on a par with my other ... read more cutters. It has a one year guarantee (two for the home user), & the quality you expect from stihl. Only downer is not being able to use it in heavy rain. Les noise, no petrol fumes & spillages & the customer pays to charge the battery. It just makes sense. Very pleased!

More than enough power to get the job done
Went with the AP300 battery just to make sure I had plenty of power. Still shows a 3/4 charge with about 2 hours of use. Wondering if I should have gone with the smaller battery for the weight savings. This thing does have some weight to it so you get a good upper body workout when using it. By looking at it and using it, it becomes obvious that this is a well made and serious tool. So great to be able to do tree shrub trimming without getting on a ladder. Took me about 45 minutes to do what ... read more used to take me half of a day. I would recommend.

The best hedge trimmer I came across.
In an effort to get my hedges under control, I went through about 6 or 7 hedge trimmers looking for one that would take care of the job. I used various expensive gas hedge trimmers, while these were powerful, they couldn't extend far enough. Then I switched to various electric hedge trimmers, while these extended further than the gas hedge trimmers, they had no where near the cutting power, so I was forced to leave somethings behind because the trimmer couldn't take care of it. But the HLA ... read more 85, wow. It's a little on the heavy side, but I think that's just because I'm super out of shape. This thing not only extends out to get me almost 9 feet of length (with how I can hold it), but it is also super powerful, it cuts through those branches that even the gas trimmers has a hard time with. It's a little on the spendy side considering you have to buy the battery and charger separately, but it is well worth it.

    Great Product
The HSA-25 garden shears made easy work of 25+ shrubs in an afternoon, all on one battery. Much lighter and easier to work with than a gas powered hedge trimmer, specifically for boxwoods and smaller shrubs. Great product and well worth the investment.

    Excellent Tool
I have a small Christmas Tree farm and I was looking for a tool to quickly maintain my trees and shrubs around the house. I get tired of using the larger equipment for that. I just purchased it and used it. Stihl did not disappoint me. This tool is excellent. Powerful for it's size and the battery lasts a long time. I also can't wait to get a second battery for it. It's well worth the price.

    My favorite garden tool
These shears are the best thing to happen to my gardening and landscaping life! They cut through field grass, vines, weeds, and shrub stems easily. I probably use them when I should be using a big weed whacker instead. But they are mini-workhorses, and the battery lasts forever. I did order an extra battery so they hardly ever have down time (poor shears!) Oh, and another plus is that arthritis in the hands won't slow you down with these Stihl shears. Thank you, Stihl, for making these!

    worked better than expected
Like all my Stihl products, this one is excellent. I got it for my wife since she likes to trim hedges to suit her (she doesn't like my trimming). I focused on light weight, no engine to start, and no extension cord to accidently cut (as she has done). I was worried about it being too slow and not tough enough. My fears were unfounded. This integral battery model works great for her, and I like it too.

    Nice little trimmer....not too dependable
I got this hedge trimmer for Mother's Day 2018 to primarily be used for trimming vines (mostly honeysuckle) on about 500' of chain link fence. In my experience a fully charged battery lasts about 30 minutes with constant use. It is lightweight and easy to operate. So far, so good. The issue I had was, even after spraying the blades with Stihl resin remover/lube as instructed by the salesman, if the trimmer was idle for a few weeks the motor would not engage the blades. It seemed to be stuck. I ... read more returned the trimmer to the dealer and was given a replacement. The next time this happened I left it at the dealership for two weeks to see if they could fix the problem. They could not, and I was given another replacement. I did not use the trimmer during the winter months and when I tried to use it just last week I again had the same issue.

    Great for small yards
I have only used the trimmer twice, but it has met my expectations. After trimming three medium sized bushes, there was no noticeable battery drain as measured by the built-in meter. I really like the light weight - much less strain on my shoulders than with heavier models. I believe that it meets the specs for size of branch it will cut, but it did stall out when I tried to remove one year's growth on a mature laurel. So I will just trim at six month intervals.

Been down under and back with my Stihl
We have a steep slope (AKA cliff) behind our house that gets heavy brush overgrowth that has to be taken back regularly. I repel down and go for it. There is no other tool to use. My Stihl HSA 66 makes quick work of the entire job, including those pesky alder saplings, up to 3/4", no problem. My wife calls it "down under and back". Oh and there's our 20 foot tall Leylandii Cypress hedge. No problem. Straight as an arrow, flat as a board. The hedge, I mean.

    Stihl products are great
Just purchased this trimmer a few weeks ago. It does the job great, but the two best things about it are the convenience of a long lasting battery and the weight differential compared to my string trimmer hedge trimmer attachment. I can now reserve that beast for the azeleas that have gotten out of control. The inertia of getting the gas can and heavy trimmer or stretching out all the xtension chords are gone. Don’t see any cut extension chords in my future.

    Well worth the money!
I bought the HSA 66 one year ago and it has been one of the best pieces of landscaping equipment that I have ever purchased, including other Stihl products. This is the second battery powered trimmer that my husband and I have used. The first one, a competitors brand did not hold up to frequent use. We chose this trimmer because the battery is interchangeable with other Stihl products, should we need to purchase them. We required a heavy duty trimmer as we have a Leyland Cypress hedge that is ... read more over 100 feet long and has mature growth. The trimmer cuts right through the formidable branches of the cypress. The trimmer weighs about 10 pounds, but I am able to maneuver it, which might be good to know for other 'women of a certain age' that enjoy landscaping like I do. The trimmer is easy to keep clean and the battery pack charges in a reasonable time. The charge lasts enough so that I can take it with me to my mom's house when her bamboo hedge needs trimming. I know that I can complete the job without the battery dying on me. Rain or shine, this trimmer gets the job done!

    Well built, balanced, good power
I have 300 feet of laurel hedge along with other tall shrubs that require trimming 1 - 2 times per year. The battery powered trimmer avoids the hassle of gas powered tools that don't tolerate inactivity for 3-4 months. The 3 hours +/- run time with the AP 300 lithium battery is more than enough time for my sessions with the trimmer (that's actually 4+ hours of working time since the trimmer is not constantly running when I step up and down off the ladder and remove clippings from the work area). ... read more The trimmer cuts well. I have used it for 5 weekends now. Wish I had this tool years ago.

    Maiden Voyage
Just put to use my new HLA 65 hedge trimmer. Obviously too early to really evaluate dependability. However, I trimmed 10, 8 ft tall pittosporum hedge, which took me about an hour to trim all sides and tops. Filled a large 75 gallon can. The super sharp blades cut fairly thick branches 3/4" to 1" without any problem. I was able to control the trimmer to make perfectly even cuts. The trimmer is well balanced and seems light. I'm going to move the middle handle around to get it into a preferred ... read more position. A torx wrench is included with the machine to loosen the handle. The articulated head was easy to move with a pull down on the unlocking handle and grabbing the black plastic handle on the cutting head to change the head angle. I bought the AL 100 battery and the hours worth of trimming used 1/4 of the battery charge, for me, homeowner, that should be plenty.

    Nice Upgrade
I had an electrical trimmer and moved to this battery powered trimmer with an extension. Wow, what an upgrade. No more cut extension cords (yes, twice) and fewer trips up the ladder. I was able to perform all low/close/high operations with one trimmer. Yes, it's heavier, but the work was done much quicker, and I dare say was more quite than my old electrical. It is plenty powerful and sharp too. With effort, I could cut through one-inch branches. The battery load isn't all that much. I have ... read more several Stihl battery products and two sized batteries. The power draw was closer to the edge trimmer than the guzzling chain saw and blower.
