Arden Cogar Jr. STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Athlete

Arden Cogar Jr. knows how to lay down the law.

As a civil defense trial attorney in West Virginia, Arden uses his mind and voice to seek justice. As a professional STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® athlete, he uses his arms and an axe to dispense it.

For over 25 years, Arden has been competing professionally, winning the U.S. Championships four times. His competitive spirit began as a teenager, competing in his first bench press contest when he was 14. He started competing in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS when he was 17. Arden's interest in the sport was partially inspired by his father, who was also a competitor.

"My father and four of my paternal uncles participated in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS for many years and they each passed it on to their sons and daughters," said Arden. "Currently, there are over 20 members of the Cogar family who are active in some facet of lumberjack sports, including my wife, Kristy, and my two young daughters, Kiara and Carmen."

As Arden looks to the future, he doesn't see himself slowing down anytime soon. His father, Arden Cogar Sr., made the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS finals at the age of 61. It's a goal that Arden Cogar Jr. sets for himself as well.

"That's something I want to do. So I need to make it another 16 years," said Arden. "A lot of guys in their mid-40s are like, 'I'm just doing this to not have to work' … I want to continue to be one of the top athletes."
