Keep your chain sharp for fast cutting

Research shows that STIHL saw chain files last longer and remove debris faster than some other files on the market.

STIHL saw chain files are designed to help you keep your chain sharp with minimum effort. Available in several diameters to match the exact size of your saw chain gullet.

Made of heavy-duty polymers, our file handles are just as durable, easy to hold and tough to damage. Soft-grip handles are also available for flat or round files.

    Simple and effective chain sharpener
I am a DIY guy. I have been using chainsaws for years. I never could sharpen one though. Just didn't understand how (didn't know a flat file was also used). My dealer told me about this sharpener. It was expensive but I was wasting time driviing back and forth to the store to leave a chain for sharpening. I bought one and after a few times using it, now I can perfectly sharpen my chain in about 3 minutes. Good tool!

Tried a few different sharpeners over the the years and this is the best.
I always prefered to file my chains free hand and when I finished shapening I hold the trigger wide open and if the saw drops through the log with any downward pressure I am satisfied. Always keeping my hand just above the handle in case of kickback. It's always been easier to file one side of the chain but with this it does't matter. This new sharpener gets the chain just as sharp but takes less time. It's not cheap but is a good investment. I read that you can also turn the saw upside down to ... read more make filing easier.

    Excellent tool
I recently purchased the 2 in 1 file and have used it on both my 461 and my 362. The directions leave a little bit to be desired so, consequently, there is a bit of a learning curve with this file. The novice will have some difficulty in mastering it, but those who understand the basics of chain sharpening will master it quickly. The beauty of this tool is that it takes much of the guesswork out of the process in that the angles marked on the chain and the angles marked on the file coralate ... read more perfectly, and the rakers/depth gauge are "taken down" correctly. If you have difficulty mastering this tool, may I suggest going to YouTube where some helpful videos can be found. Further, ensure you purchase the correct size file for your particular chain: the 2-1 is not "one size fits all. Nice job, Stihl.

Great tool for out in the woods!
I've owned a STIHL Stump Vise for the last twenty-five years and use one often in the woods to hold my saw while sharpening the chain. It pounds into the stump easily, and pulls out just as easy. Very durable, easy to use, must have piece of equipment for the serious chainsaw user.

    Makes sharpening easy
I bought this after trying to file my chains by eye or use different tools with diffrent methods. I saw it on youtube, went to a local dealer, but it wasn't in stock, so he had it ordered. Now I'm able to sharpen or touch up my chains in about 15 minutes. Happy with the product and it doesn't break the bank.

    Best guide for Stihl Sawchain.
Solid build , no better way to hold a correct angle. With the Stihl File and guide keeps Stihl Saw Chains razor sharp. Save your chains by using this combo. Grinder sharpening at a shop heats the chains and burns the temper out of the cutters. And sharpening at a shop these days can be expensive .

It Works Better Than Your Eyesight !
The Stihl File Guide, when used with the FF1 File Guide Holder, will produce a uniformly sharpened chain with the proper angles required. It takes all of the "guess work" out of correctly sharpening your chains. DVD: The picture is worth a thousand words! SUGGESTION: Stihl should produce an online tutorial for ALL products here on the or sites. This would eliminate having to provide a DVD with very basic products. Having access to a tutorial for major products sure ... read more would reduce a lot of confusion on the part of consumers and headaches for servicing dealers! Just post a link on the Instructions or Owners Manual.

Does what it was made to do
Not much to say other than it does what it's made to do. I like the hollow handle that allows you to drop a spare spark plug into.

Well thought out and easy to use.
I had been doing a lot of tree felling on my property and so I thought I should probably get my saw sharpened to keep the work easy. I didn't want to have to take time out of my day to drop my saw off at a dealer, get it sharpened, and then take more time to pick it up. Call me lazy. I prefer to do the work myself. It gives me more of an intimate knowledge of my tool. See how it ticks so to speak. I bought the sharpening kit for my M170 saw and I have to say it was extremely easy to use. The kit ... read more is matched to my chain and with the gauge already marked with the correct angle it made sharpening a snap. This product was very well thought out. Kudos to Stihl.

    Complete filing kit!
This kit has everything needed to keep the chain sharp. Although a vise is helpful. Contents include a round file for one of the popular chain pitches ask your dealer for the correct size for your saw. One flat file to tune the rakers, You will have a depth gauge to compliment the flat file. Two handles for the files, mine are wood. Also included is a file guide that will assist novice and experienced sharpeners alike. All of this is bundled in a convenient roll up pouch that has compartments ... read more sewn in and a tie cord. This makes carrying afield with you easy and organized. I would recommend a stump vise to help steady the bar while sharpening the chain at the job site. I own two kits one for .325 pitch and another for 3/8 pitch. I also have a spare round file that I carry with each kit.

    Perfect product for a novice
I always sent my chains out to be sharpened , wasn't comfortable with doing it myself. It got quite expensive so I checked out the product at my dealers. Extremely easy process with this kit. If you are intimidated by doing it yourself, don't be. It's super easy, just follow the directions, stihl has on line videos to help as well. I highly recommend doing it yourself and saving the money versus paying someone else.

    raker gauge is spot on
Bought this tool in 3/8,.325,3/8 picco for each of my saws. The hard setting on the raker gauge is spot on for me on oak, have not used the soft side of the guage. This is a high quality tool made well. Used it a lot and can still read the words soft and hard on the raker guage. Would highly recommend this to any one who hand files their saw chain.
