Keep your chain sharp for fast cutting

Research shows that STIHL saw chain files last longer and remove debris faster than some other files on the market.

STIHL saw chain files are designed to help you keep your chain sharp with minimum effort. Available in several diameters to match the exact size of your saw chain gullet.

Made of heavy-duty polymers, our file handles are just as durable, easy to hold and tough to damage. Soft-grip handles are also available for flat or round files.

Great file guide! I swear by it, but...
I love this file guide! Bottom line. But i did not realize that there were different sizes. So i ordered a 3/8 file guide and got the one with a 5/32 not knowing that it was that size. I required the file size to be 7/32. Can i just change the file and be alright or is the guide unique for that chain size? Please assist as i can not find any material in regards to this.

Tried a few different sharpeners over the the years and this is the best.
I always prefered to file my chains free hand and when I finished shapening I hold the trigger wide open and if the saw drops through the log with any downward pressure I am satisfied. Always keeping my hand just above the handle in case of kickback. It's always been easier to file one side of the chain but with this it does't matter. This new sharpener gets the chain just as sharp but takes less time. It's not cheap but is a good investment. I read that you can also turn the saw upside down to ... read more make filing easier.

Excellent quick easy way to keep your chain sharp.
i bought this 2 in 1 from my local stihl dealer, my chain was in rough shape. It took me about an hour to get my chain back to like new. My angles were off and depth gauge was way off due to a cheap sharpener kit. Now it takes less then 5 mins to quickly maintain the chain. This product saves a lot of time and will keep your chain like new. I am very happy i spent the money on it. I think if you own a chain saw.....this is for you.

This guide helps keep your gullet depth perfect. Extremely important in keeping a chain cutting like new. If you hand file, this is THE tool.

Keeps You Honest With Your Angles !
This tool really eases your ability to correctly file your chain. Uniformity is everything when seeking a proper cut. It definitely aids in a straight cut which is critical when felling larger-diameter trees.

Amazing quality and leaves no room for mistakes
I use the 1/4 model on my MS 180 and HT 56. The guide takes the guess work out of sharping and allows you to get your chain ‘sticky sharp.’ With 4 strokes, I have a fully sharped edge that cuts through numerous trees, limbs and branches. With this you extend the life of your blade 10 fold. I used to use an electric grinder sharper, but found that it takes too much off and shortens the life of the chain.

    file gauge
The top plate angle and drag depth are pretty self explanatory. The side plate angle is what has me puzzled. I have sighted this with a brand new chain according to the chain spec and still don't really understand how to read the angle on the saw. I am guessing that four out of five ain't bad. 1. top plate angle (check# 2. drag depth #check# 3. bar groove depth #check# 4. bar groove cleaner #check# 5. side plate angle reading # x )

A MUST-HAVE to Keep Your Guide Bar Channel CLEAN !
In some ways this inexpensive tool is just as valuable as your Guide Bar. You should carry it in your saw's Tool Pouch & clean out the oiling channel every time you pull the Chain off. The newer Bars have inadequate diameter oiling holes, resulting in a "dry Bar" condition regardless of how much you turn-up the Oil Delivery setting. A dirty channel will only exacerbate that problem! And, a screwdriver will not reach down to the bottom of the channel. Most shops tend to forget to file the ... read more rakers when sharpening your chains. This tool is a must-have to ensure the correct amount is filed off.

    Basic but effective tool
I’m not sure how much more they could pack into this small package. It’s like the Swiss Army Knife of Chainsaw sharpening tools. I use mine to clean the bar and file the rakers when the shop sharpens the teeth (they never lower the rakers and it won’t cut as fast). Anyway, the tool is good and well worth the price, BUT now there is the 3 in 1 filing system that cuts the time down by filing the tooth and the rakers in the same operation. This tool is good and will serve you well but in the same ... read more way the computer is an improvement in efficiency over the abicus for calculating numbers the 3 in 1 tool is that much more efficient for filing your chain. You can get there both ways but one is much easier.

Does what it was made to do
Not much to say other than it does what it's made to do. I like the hollow handle that allows you to drop a spare spark plug into.

best out of all the handles
i love this handle the price is great holds the file really ridged and i love how i can put different size files on it in just seconds and really tighten down on the file im a wildland firefighter and this product is perfect because i can remove the handle and use it for different sizes and i can take it apart so the files will pack better it also holds my raker file also i would recommend this to anyone i have tryed all of the stihl file handles and nothing beats this one

Great tool for out in the woods!
I've owned a STIHL Stump Vise for the last twenty-five years and use one often in the woods to hold my saw while sharpening the chain. It pounds into the stump easily, and pulls out just as easy. Very durable, easy to use, must have piece of equipment for the serious chainsaw user.

GREAT for Those Born Without "ThREE" HANDS !
Knock 'er in; tighten 'er down; dress 'er up; take 'er out; fire 'er up; back to work! Simple as that. Just by lookin' at it , it might work as a replacement tip for your cattle prod! Always multi-tasking. Use your "walkman" tool to tighten 'er down...simple. Enjoy your work day with another great Stihl tool!

    raker gauge is spot on
Bought this tool in 3/8,.325,3/8 picco for each of my saws. The hard setting on the raker gauge is spot on for me on oak, have not used the soft side of the guage. This is a high quality tool made well. Used it a lot and can still read the words soft and hard on the raker guage. Would highly recommend this to any one who hand files their saw chain.

I bought one and really like it, angles and depth is right on. first time you put it on the saw to use its a little awkward but after that you figure it out.
