How to Start a Landscaping Business
There’s a lot to consider when starting a landscaping business. Once you’ve gotten your business funded and named and created a business plan, it’s time to establish your tool fleet. Choosing the right tools can make or break your bottom line, so keep reading for a guide on how to build your fleet for your specific business needs.
What Tools Do You Need to Start a Landscaping Business?
Professional landscaping tools are a major consideration in setting up a landscaping business. Where you work and what types of jobs you’ll be doing all play a part in what kinds of tools you choose for your work. Here are five things you should think about:
Pick Your Power Source
You have two primary choices when it comes to powering your fleet: battery and gas. If you’re working in areas with noise restrictions or gas bans, battery power offers the solution you need. It offers much of the same power and durability as gas while running with reduced noise and zero exhaust emissions.
On the other hand, many landscaping businesses rely gas power. Gas tools have long been perceived as being more powerful than battery, and while this is no longer true, many still prefer it.
Choose Professional Landscaping Tools
Landscaping entails a variety of tasks, and you’re going to need the right tools for each one.
If you’re going to offer mowing, you have several options. You can choose between a manual or self-propelled, walk-behind push mower. For high-volume work, you may want a riding lawn mower or a STIHL zero-turn mower.
Other tools to consider include trimmers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, pole pruners, and even pressure washers.

In addition to practicing safe work habits, you can also check for common features and benefits that most STIHL power tools have built in. You will also want to remember to wear the proper personal protective equipment.
