From Our Factory in Virginia Beach...
Employing more than 2,000 workers at our state-of-the-art factory in Virginia Beach, we manufacture millions of gas- and battery-powered products every year from global and local parts, exporting them to more than 90 countries around the world.
STIHL Inc. is located on over 180 acres in Virginia Beach, with over one million square feet of manufacturing, warehouse, and office space. STIHL Inc. employs over 3,000 people nationwide, with over 2,700 employed at its manufacturing facility in Virginia Beach. STIHL Inc. manufactures approximately 80 models of handheld tools using U.S. and global materials. STIHL’s Virginia Beach facility includes 16 different assembly lines, on which approximately 275 different product variants are manufactured.
STIHL Inc. also does more than just assemble products at its facility in Virginia Beach——it serves as an exemplar of a vertically integrated manufacturing facility, as many component parts are created in Virginia Beach from raw materials, and assembled into the final, saleable product. In addition to assembly, other processes conducted in Virginia Beach include machining of pistons and crankshafts, heat treating, injection molding, blow molding, extrusion molding, and guide bar manufacture. STIHL Inc. consistently manufactures between 4-5 million units a year, which are sold by over 10,000 dealers in the United States and exported to 90 countries worldwide. In fact, the majority of STIHL gasoline-powered units sold in the U.S. are built in Virginia Beach from domestic and global parts and components——many of which are produced in-house.
