VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (October 2014) - The 2014 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship will return to Austria, taking place at the Olympiahalle in Innsbruck, Austria from November 14 to 15. More than 100 athletes representing 20-plus nations will compete in both team and individual competitions. Some 10,000 spectators are expected to be in attendance over the two days of the event.

Representing Team USA will be 2013 and 2014 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® champion Matt Cogar, Arden Cogar, Jr., Dave Jewett, Nathan Waterfield and Jason Lentz. To earn a spot on Team USA and the right to compete at the World Championship, each athlete placed the fastest in a specific discipline.

"These five athletes are some of the best in the U.S., and give us a realistic opportunity to win the World Championship," said Brad Sorgen, executive producer of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series. "We have a great mix of experienced veterans and up-and-coming competitors, which proves that the sport is growing in the States."

In addition to the five professional athletes, 2014 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® collegiate champion Sam Mulholland-Wong will travel to Austria and participate on the international rookie team. He'll compete in the relay events on a team of other up-and-coming athletes from around the globe.

For the first day of the competition, the national teams will compete in the team relay. On the second day, the top 12 international athletes will battle for medals in the individual competition. At last year's World Championship, which took place in Stuttgart, Germany, Australian Brad DeLosa took home the title. Matt Cogar put up a strong fight, but fell just short, taking home second place, and Martin Komarek from the Czech Republic finished third.

Sponsors of the 2014 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series are Ram Trucks, the presenting sponsor; Duluth Trading, the official workwear of the Series; John Deere, the official equipment; and Georgia Boot, the official work boot.
