How long have you competed in lumberjack sports?
17 years.

How did you get involved in lumberjack sports and when did you start competing?
I began competing in college as a member of the Forestry Club at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 2001. Alumni encouraged us to get involved with the New York State Lumberjack Association and in 2002, I began to travel and compete with my long-time sawing partner Julie Miller. In 2004, I brought my future husband to his first pro competition, and here we are. I don’t think I would have continued in the sport without his support and companionship (and axe grinding...).

How do you train for STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®?
Not as much as I would like to! My winter training consists of interval training, running, rowing, and practice of the event disciplines. Once competition season begins, time in the gym is hard to find, so I try to squeeze event training in between competitions.

What’s your best/strongest STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® discipline?
Underhand chop

What advice would you give to young female athletes interested in competing in the sport?
Once you learn the basics, watch good cutters cut, cut as many blocks as you can, and listen to all of the advice you can get from experienced competitors- use what advice makes you a better competitor. Also, be patient with yourself; it takes time to cut enough blocks to become a proficient cutter, to acquire equipment, etc.
