How long have you competed in lumberjack sports?
16 years I think.

How did you get involved in lumberjack sports and when did you start competing?
2001-2002 in college. It was easy to win because I trained really hard, but also because there weren’t as many top female athletes to compete against. I won a lot, and winning is fun! It also helps pay for the next piece of gear.

How do you train for the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series?
I keep fit and I test the events when wood is available to train with. During my offseason and resting months, I work out six days a week, plus one day of yoga or getting outside and playing. During my workouts, I am always thinking about winning. When I get tired, I suck it up and go harder because that’s when “they” pass you. During the season, I work out about five days a week and a little bit lighter depending on when the next competition is. Depending on wood availability, I include one to two days of sport specific training. I focus on building strength in the offseason, and just maintaining throughout the season. Every smaller competition is practice for STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®.

What’s your best/strongest STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Series discipline?
The Underhand Chop for sure. I love getting into a good log with a well-matched axe. Let me at it!

What advice would you give to young female athletes interested in competing on the Series?
Be serious and be committed! If you are, you will find a way to make it happen and people to help. If you are not, go play volleyball - it’s much easier and cleaner.
