Rated 5 out of 5 by super trimmer This is my third trimmer. I owned and used another brand for over thirty years. I could no longer get parts for it, so I bought a new trimmer. This trimmer was stolen. I decided to replace it with a STIHL fs90. I have used it to trim my yard twice with the string head attached. The line feeds out better than either of the other two trimmers. I am also using the fs90 fitted with a 3 cutter blade to trim under the fences on my 60 acre farm. It performs this task effortlessly and uses very little fuel. In addition, it starts easily on the first or second pull and is well-balanced and doesn't tire out this 65 year-old user. After about 3 weeks use, I have found no dislikes for this trimmer. August 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by OVerall- its a workorse! The FS90 is a very good machine to get areas cleared where a large machine wont fit or cant handle the terrain. The bump head is efficient and easy to use. The head is removable and very nice that it comes with all the tools required to handle the job. It is relatively light weight and the shoulder strap helps keep it under control. Starting and stopping the motor are very simple and quick. The motor is a 2 stroke motor but purrs like a 4 stroke. It has decent power that can be easily controlled and idles like a dream. The fuel is easy to mix.I have purchased many other weed eaters that barely last a season or two. I can see the FS90 being a lifetime purchase. August 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pro power at a reasonable price We bought a rural lake lot that has not been touched since the 70's, completely overgrown. My FS90 with brush cutter blade has made quick work of a seemingly insurmountable task, plenty of power to mow down thickets and even 1" saplings and vines. Starts right up every time and with the standard double harness is very comfortable for long periods of use. I wish my poulan chainsaw was that dependable, guess I'll have to get a Stihl chainsaw next. July 31, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by All around great product I use this trimmer hours on end, taking down thick grass to large weeds. Not once has it ever failed June 13, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by most problematic piece of power equipment I ever purchased Purchased the Stihl FS 90 on June 29,2013.It would not start following the instruction manual. Took it back to the dealer who showed me how to get it started (not using the directions in the manual). The spark plug had to be taken out and "dried off" and then replaced for it to start and run.Last week (two and a half years later) when it would not start or run at all, I took it back to the dealer who found that there was a hole in the piston. The price for a replacement engine was more than the original purchase price. May 28, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Brushcutter I purchased my Stihl FS90 last year as I was in the market for a good, solid, dependable brushcutter that could manage cutting large areas of overgrown grass while also having the capability to cut and clear away overgrown areas of thorns, bushes, as well as small saplings. This brushcutter is capable of cutting through any plant material you throw at it with power to spare. The Stihl FS90 has more than enough power for my needs and has been a great addition to my continually growing Stihl collection. May 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic product! I am thoroughly pleased with my fs90. I bought it to maintain my 3 acre lot and it has more than enough power to cut anything from grass to shrubs and small trees with the brush saw I still get impressed! Thank you for the quality product. May 1, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by a good overall machine but with one flaw got mine back in march of this year have used it off and on since then til the weather got warm then it was on i been cuttin stuff everywhere with it runs good has good power but it does have a weak point and that is the handlebar clamp it's made out of cheap pot metal and breaks easily if tightened down tight like it should be it doesnt have splines inside it to hold onto the handlebars which is a cr@p design although the pivot on it is a good idea and works good for the most part it's just the clamp itself that's poor quality and a word to the wise out users of this machine out there if one doesnt roll the string around straight and true inside the spool the machine will vibrate causing numbness in your gassin hand but overall im very pleased with its performance and would recommend it to anybody lookin to buy a new machine you wont be sorry buyin it April 28, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by great product with a great price Just like all of my other STIHL products, it gets the job done quickly. My business relies on STIHL products every day to provide the quality of service our customers deserve!Chris BowmanOwnerLeading Edge Lawncare April 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent I purchased this machine beginning of June 2015. The trimmer has done phenomenal work. We have a large portion of property that is extremely rock and can not get brush hogs or gravleys in to mow down. The FS90 with the 3 knife blade cut it all down a lot quicker than I would have expected. I currently have a Ms290, Ms210, BG55 and a BR600 they all run perfect and have yet to have a problem with them. The FS90 fits in great with them. I will be purchasing more Stihl soon. Rated 5 out of 5 by was deciding between a 90,110, and 130 got the 90 not dissapointed I was torn between the 3 models and got the 90 because it was the cheapest and right after got to run a 130 and could not tell hardly any difference in power, nor enough to justify the 130 for what I need anyway. But I have several large banks and lots of driveway and ditch line I keep mowed down and this thing is a beast. Never failed to start and more power than most people need September 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simple to operate and power to spare. Purchased the FS90 in Dec 2012, it is now Sept 2014. I use Stihl oil for the mix and keep the blades sharp. I use this thing every day and it starts like the very first day. I have not done any work on this machine whats so ever, not even change the spark plug. I own a sheep operation and trim under fences and around water tanks, clear saplings up to 4" with no trouble at all. We have lots of switch grass and the FS90 cuts with almost no effort. If you are looking for a reliable, tuff and cost effective trimmer, this is the one. I have purchased just about ever model of trimmer available in the U.S. over the years spending thousands of dollers, this is the last one I will have to purchase. Stihl is the only equipment the we purchase now. September 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by A DIRECT REPLACEMENT I am a caretaker at a property in Vermont that consists of 75 acres of mostly woods. There was a mishmash of equipment in the barn when I started 5 years ago. One such piece was an older 90 that ran perfectly. Unfortunately after almost 30 years the gear box failed and a replacement was no longer available. Naturally I replaced it with a new FS90.I have not been disappointed. I only use it with the blade and walk about the woods destroying as much of the thorny stuff as I can to ease access for logging and also to assist the wildlife population which is in abundance. This thing has not missed a beat in the 4 years that I have been running it. Rated 5 out of 5 by Exclusively Stihl for me...forever. This trimmer/brushcutter is my fourth Stihl product and I couldn't be happier. Every tool starts easily and runs without so much as a whimper time and time again. I purchased this trimmer for my vacation home in the woods in Vermont. It really gets a workout trimming around the house and clearing small brush in my yard. Although I have had it only a month or so, it is dependable, powerful and simply a joy to use. You may pay a little more in the beginning with Stihl but you get so much more in the end. By the way, my 25-year old trimmer that is still used weekly runs like a champ and has never needed service. I fully expect my FS 90 to be the same and perhaps more. July 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Product Even better with Moto Mix I got this trimmer a while back. I doubled my warranty by getting a gallon of Moto Mix. It starts up first pull everytime. I love the bike handles and the cruise control option. June 26, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product: low vibration, smooth running, great results I am really pleased with this trimmer. It starts easily, idles smoothly and responds instantly. It certainly exceeds my rather high expectations! June 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Trimmer I purchased the FS90 after destroying several other trimmers, and burning up the shaft of my other Stihl trimmer. Am maintaining 4.3 acres in the country with heavy grass, weeds, and light brush. This includes trimming around a 1/4 acre pond. So far this trimmer has exceeded expectations. Vibration was low which was a nice surprise. Even more surprising was that I used less than one tank of fuel. With my other trimmers I used at least two tanks. It started easy and ran very quiet. The bicycle handle was easy to use and made quick work of the heavy grass and weeds. May 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Trimmer I looked at several different brands when my old trimmer died on me. After looking at dozens of models I pulled the trigger on the bike handle fs90. It has been nothing short of fantastic. It was more than I thought I would spend but you get what you pay for. It has plenty of power and it's lightweight. I highly recommend you upgrade to a double harness because the single factory strap leaves something to be desired. That's my only complaint is the strap. Great product STIHL. April 21, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by over all its a good unit, i wish it was lighter in weight. I use it mostly for edging lawns, while its a good unit overall, its just too heavy. April 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great brushcutter which also works as a trimmer The brushcutter works extremely well clearing small diameter trees from an over grown lot. I cut the underbrush off about 0.5 acres in less than 3 hours. I am well pleaed with the quality and ability of this item. April 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent all around tool I have used my F S 90 for two years now without a single problem. I trim around a 4 acre property for aesthetics, and I use multiple blade styles to cut brush and saplings and trees up to about 3" in diameter with no problem on another acre. I highly recommend this unit. April 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Extremely happy with my FS 90. A very versatile machine! I've had my FS 90 for several years now and could not be more pleased with it. My home is surrounded on all four sides by thick forest, and it is continually encroaching on our yard, so I'm continually fighting the encroaching brush and briars as well as normal weed eating duties after mowing. I run my FS 90 primarily with the 8-tooth metal grass blade, and it slices as easily through brush and briars as it does through thick, heavy grass and weeds. I also trim around my pond and it slices through heavy cat-tails like they are nothing. It hardly slows down through brush up to 2" in diameter. If it's thicker, it might take a few bumps to eat through it, but it WILL cut it down. With the regular string head that comes with it, it makes quick work of unruly grass and weeds around our foundations, trees, retaining walls, steps and such. This is by far the most comfortable to operate trimmer/brushcutter that I've ever used, and this isn't the first professional grade trimmer I've owned. I chose Stihl because the Grounds Crew where I work uses them, and if Stihl can survive those guys and keep them happy, they can certainly do what I want and need. This year, I started maintaining the yard and grounds of our Church and Vicarage, and I bought the FCS Edger Attachment for edging the many sidewalks. It attaches and removes from the FS 90 quickly and easily and does an excellent job. So I can switch back and forth between the Edger and the trimmer head or brush blade. October 7, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Works great - when it works I own 124 acre place, lots of brush, torturous 4- mile one lane drivewayflanked by brush, nettles, tall grass, etc. To maintain, I used StihlFS 56 (not bike handle) and the triple blade steel brush blade (excellentbrush cutter!) . The 56 starts easily, runs fine. But I got seduced into "upgrading" to FS 90 , it was argued that Iwas expecting too much from my 56. Probably tru.e. Heads interchange.Trouble right from the git-go, the FS90 very temperamental aboutstarting. If you follow directions, then it is overchoked and flooded. So… now have to remove spark plug requently, turn machine upside down for hours, put plug back, etc. and NEVER choke, and NEVER use the plastic bubble. Temps here are 60-80 F., cold at night. It onlystarts if it is exactly the right mood. Total contrast to my happy FS56workhorse. which I think would start under water!Am disgusted with the FS 90, especially because my guys who come to work for me spend (waste) so much time trying to start it.These guys use Stihl gear all the time, can rebuild motors, etc.I remain a Stihl fan, and like many of the attachments, have chainsaw, etc. In fairness, we just bought the FS90 for this season, butmaybe it will get better in time. I understand that there is a "break intime" like with 1940 autos when they were new.I use 91 octane, and Stihl mix. June 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lots of torque, light, ergonomic, and (almost) a joy to use. Replaced an off-the-shelf 2-cycle with this, as I've got a lot of land and fence line to cover. It's much easier on my back, with lots of torque and easily dispenses line as I go. I've only used it twice so far, but I've been happy both times; glad I upgraded! June 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This is a great machine My FS90 is only a few weeks old but I've already used it close to 20 hours. It starts with one pull, and I like the easily adjustable handlebar with a knob you turn so you don't need tools. May 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product I use this to trim and as a brush cutter it is very easy to start has terrific power and it handles great. I would recommend to anyone needing a trimmer/brush cutter May 7, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by fs90 a disappointment bought to replace fs 76 I've for twenty yrs. Not as much power as my old fs 76. seems to miss after running it at full throttle for very long. Carried it to dealer for this problem. They replaced the ignition module. Still have the same problem. This the first Stihl product I've had a problem with. would not recommend this unit to anyone. Rated 5 out of 5 by Almost 16 yrs old! 'I've had my FS 90 since they 1st came out in 1998.I use a brush blade as well as tall grass blade along with the Trimmer head. All I've had to replace in 14 yrs is the trimmer head.Starts right up.Easy to maintain.Never lost power in all thee years! September 19, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Underpowered for brush and small trees. Works great on grass, and dealer said it would cut trees up to 2" with a blade. That was not true, it will only cut 1/2 inch buckthorn, bigger than that it stalls. Returned unit to dealer he said it is developing normal power, but might need some break in time. Ran several more tanks of gas thru it no change. I bought it because I needed more power than my FS 45 which has been great for several years in grass but could not handle small trees. Sold the FS 90 in disgust and will never buy another one.All other products from Stihl have been excellent but this one is way under powered for cutting small tree shoots. Limit it to grass and it will be good. August 12, 2013
