Rated 3 out of 5 by from I think this is the trimmer I bought. I bought a trimmer and some extra line. Here’s the issue I’m having with it. To add more line you have to measure ut, get it in there and go through hoops. For such an expensive trimmer, why did you make it so difficult for an average person to refill this? I’m sure I can go spend a bunch of money and have a cartridge I can change out, but so I don’t have to spend more $ I’ll have to wait for the boyfriend to get to it. Geez!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs work on ergonomics, durability. Will have to take my FS 130 Trimmer in for warranty work. It has always been hard to start, then over revs when started. (Scary!) Right now, the shut off switch is not operable and I have to place it in CHOKE , then throttle press to shut it off. The harness helps and I have finally found a handlebar forward position that is the most comfortable for me, but it still must be pressed downward to grass level. On thepositive side it is very powerful and the brush cutter triple blade works pretty well on Himalayan blackberry canes of which we have thousands. It is not particularly light and if the string hits a fence wire or a solid object, the string will retract into the string dispenser and one has to remove the cap and re position the strings.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hit and miss Ive had mine for a couple years now, the first time I used it, it ran great! Lotsa power and it really cut through some of the thickest stuff with ease. However, every use since then has been a struggle.....IF I can get it started, it runs like its constantly bogged down. Sometimes it'll clear up and run well, sometimes it wont. My biggest complaint is the difficulty getting it started after several uses. Ive run nothing but the Stihl brand moto mix in it since new. I wouldnt say dont get one, because when it runs good its a monster......just be prepared for lots of pulling on that string to get her started!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ran Twice I was able to use it twice. Now it won't start. I suspect that it floods way too easily. I'll be taking it back to get a different brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Machine Bought the FS 310 a few months ago to clear the brush and weed overgrowth on my 2.5 acre property, which the previous owners had allowed to accumulate over the years. Have to say I'm very impressed with what this machine can do, particularly when using the Stihl Brush Blade. The key to using the Brush Blade on thick woody material is maintaining sharp cutting edges. One note regarding the recommended Valve Clearance Inspection interval... in my opinion 100 hours of operation is too long before having the VCI done. I now have about 15 hours running time on my FS 310, and while the engine has been starting and running without issue, I decided to check the valve clearances today... I found that they were at 0.007" & 0.008", whereas the spec calls for them to be set at 0.004". After making the valve clearance adjustment, I also checked the spark plug gap and found that it was a bit wide, so I reset the gap to the spec of 0.02". After re-installing the shroud, I fired it up and immediately noticed how much smoother the engine was, along with improved throttle response. Very happy with this FS 310, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a serious trimming - brush cutting machine.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a brush cutter I purchased this product hoping that it would be adequate to cut approx. 2 inch diameter volunteer Loblolly Pine saplings. The handle bar actually broke off after approx. 20 hours of work. I got a new handle installed. After 2 more hours the center piece that holds the handle bar broke. I think this product would be excellent for lighter uses but don't plan using it to cut many saplings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good power for woody material up to 3.5" Due to the fire danger of fuel build up, I bought a FS310 to clear the sagebrush from under the pine trees on 20 acres. For clearing brush, this machine beats a chainsaw due to three things; no more bending over, no more throwing chain, and only 22 teeth to sharpen!I was torn between the FS310 and the FS250. My dealer talked me into the FS310. This is my first 4 mix machine. I am very happy he steared me this direction. The machine has plenty of power and fuel efficiency. For clearing woody stems it is nice to have the big chassis and vibration system. It'll take out 3.5" stems in one hit. If I move to the other side of the stem, I can hit it again and take out 5-6" boles. At 4480' mine had a slight low end bog. At the 40 hour valve adjustment, the dealer adjusted the carb to take care of that. Now, it's broken in and just plain screams!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hit or Miss on Starting Very unreliable as it will flood upon starting about half the time it is used. When that occurs you can forget about using it that day. The bike handle is about worthless for use around any object. The line constantly breaks even when using different kinds. When that occurs you have to stop, take the spool off, and manually feed- very time consuming and self-defeating. Between trying to start it and stopping to feed the line manually my cheap Lowe's special is a more efficient use of my time.
