Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very good for certain conditions Good for cutting in heavy, thorny brush. Better than chaps as they fit closer and don't grab snags and trip you up which is very bad when carrying a live saw. I have allot of thorny brush and I also cut hedge and locust and have not torn them in a full winter season of cutting. They offer good protection. I do my timber work only in the winter as the ticks and temperatures of summer are prohibitive. They are comfortable in very cold weather by adding a layer and fine by themselves up to about 60 degrees after which they are too hot to wear. Think about the summer version if you cut in warm weather. The zippers are of poor quality and unnecessary as even the best leg zippers will break open on snags in heavy timber. I wear gators when cutting so the zippers are covered and wood chips don't fall into your boots. Also they are short at only 33.5 inches so if you're tall there's going to be a gap between pants and boot which is where gators help. The outer most layer of these tear easy, like just brushing against your saw, even if it's off with the break on, so use your scabbard. The pants are designed to self destruct when contacting a live, moving chain. They can't be reused after that making them an expensive alternative to chaps. When I am in open woodland cutting logs I still wear chaps but I recommend the protective pants for dense, bushy areas with lots of slash, snags and debris that will trip you up wearing buckle chaps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I need I expected a heavier cumbersome pant. Instead i enjoy a light highly protective pant, with a handy pocket and both wear-alone or over pants functionality. Here is an example of functional, dependable, un-intrusive protection. I was pleasantly surprised, after having too many close calls with a pair of old jeans!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not tough enough If you work in brush or briars of any kind don't buy these pants. After wearing them about 12 times holes developed in the legs, the crotch split, and the Kevlar pads in the legs are fraying and bunching up. The initial quality was poor too. The belt loops were fraying when I pulled them out of the package. The cargo pocket is on your left knee and carrying anything like a wedge, scrench, wallet, or cell phone is uncomfortable if not painful.
