    Outstanding tool
After using an electric hedge trimmer for years, I decided to break-down and purchase a gas unit for around the house. Glad I did and very happy that we purchased the HS 45 because it is a real work-horse for any and all hedge trimming we have around the home. I must admit I was taken aback by its sheer power and ease of use. It is very easy to start and maintain. I absolutely love it and would highly recommend it to anyone who has hedges that need an occasional trim.

    A win for Stihl!
I've owned this hedge trimmer with 24" blades for ten years now. It has been exceptional. It gets fairly heavy use from me about 7 months of the year. I just this week had the blades sharpened for the first time. It still cut ok, but I had a couple areas in high use zones of the blades that looked a little too worn, and didn't quite cut like in the past. I've been very happy with its power, ease of starting and blade life!

The best machine that money can buy and worth every penny!!
There is a saying that goes "you buy cheap and you will buy twice". This is true, when I first bought my home 5 years ago, my wife bought a cheap electric hedge trimmer. She used it a handful of times and it quickly started having problems such lack power, the plastic coverings were cracking and breaking at the handle, the electric plug base was getting loose and the extension cord would come out during trimming sessions just to name few. I picked up this STIHL model hedge trimmer and I ... read more immediately noticed the superior quality in design and performance. This trimmer is a beast and surprisingly very nimble and agile to handle and control. It's makes the harder jobs faster to get through without any problems. This device is lightweight, powerful, easy to handle and looks very sleek! Like I said before, money well spent!

    Perfect match for my needs
The trimmer is well built, lightweight, and powerful enough for maintaining hedges. Yes the reach and angle features are great for those hard to reach jobs. Have only used mine a few times so as far as durability goes, well that review will have to wait.

    Hedge trimmer
Excellent tool for reaching high and wide hedges. This is the 3rd product I've purchased from Stihl. I continue to like the dependability of Stihl products.

    Excellent Hedge Trimmer
The articulating trimmer offers more versatility for my needs. I am able to do more hedge trimming without a ladder, a big plus! The HL94K starts easily every time. I really like the throttle adjusting control which enables cutting at a consistent speed. Be sure to use Stihl resin spray lube on the blade after each use. If you are looking for an ideal trimmer for larger hedges/bushes, this is the one.

You get what you pay for!!
I used these for the first time on a large property that was extremely overgrown. Trimmed up touchy boxwoods cleanly. Cut right through large woody branches on burning bushes with ease, grasses, evergreens, everything. It ran much, much longer on a single tank of fuel than the 46 I've used professionally the last 6 years. I love this unit and can't wait to use it again.

This hedge trimmer is nicely balanced and easy starting.
I used this hedge trimmer for probably 6 hrs. Straight and did not feel cumbersome or unmanageable. It was nicely balanced and easy to start everytime, hot or cold. The twistable handle made the machine very comfortable in any position. It is probably the best trimmer I have used to date and would buy again if the need arouse.

    Professional grade
These suckers cut just about anything. I trim a lot of old oleander bushes even low hanging branches on my oak tree. They will glide though anything up to 3/8 thick You have stay on bigger branches for a bit but they will go through it. I was cutting up to 3/4 inche branches without to much effort. I especially like the rotating handle. As all of my Stihl products the trimmers are well made and preform perfectly

    Very high quality cutting blade
The blade is higher quality than most hedge trimmers i've used in the past. Unit is light in weight and very easy to manipulate around hedges.

    Excellent trimmers
Purchased this trimmer after weighing the pros and cons of the HS-45 gas unit. Having a couple of herniated disks in my lower back, trimmer weight is a huge concern when leaning out over the top of a bush. But, I also needed a trimmer with enough capacity to cut ewes, hemlock, and the ever so woody, burning bush. The fact they both would perform the same, convinced me to go with the lighter (by 3.5#) electric version. You wouldn't think 3.5# would make much difference but, when extending out ... read more at the end of my reach, it's huge! While using this electric trimmer on 150' of 14 ga extension cord, it cut through everything I challenged it with. No problems what-so-ever. Cut 20 shrubs in less than an hour, not including clean up.

This thing will cut better than one would think.
I bought this the other weekend because our old battery powered hedge trimmer went on the fritz. So having decided to limit my purchasing of yard power tools pretty much only to Stihl, I went to our local dealer. I had already decided based on the current product selection which model I wanted. They had one in stock ready to go. I did not want another battery powered hedge trimmer, as this is a device used just a few times a year, and dead batteries are very costly to replace. I did not want a ... read more gas one either, as they may not want to start after sitting most of the time. The good old electric model is the right choice for us. I can reach everything I need to trim using heavy duty extension cords. I don't have to worry about dead batteries or fouled plugs. It is quiet (relatively), and boy, will this thing cut good size stalks, too!

    Elegant tool
I'm a professional landscaper who's been watching the Stihl battery line for some time. I decided to jump in and buy the HLA 85 as my first battery powered tool purchase. So far, I'm very happy with it! It feels space age and elegant. It's incredibly quiet, the variable speed trigger is great, and my battery (AP 180) still has four green bars on the charge meter even after pruning several small hedges. This is not a light weight tool, and is built with high quality materials; the cutting side ... read more is still almost as heavy as a gas powered unit, but without the gas power head, it is much lighter to carry around overall. I'm very much looking forward to getting the other battery tools, as I feel this is the way of the future especially as battery technology matures.

    Another well thought out product
I've owned this tool for just a few weeks & so far I'm very impressed. I already have the battery powered saw, two ap180 batteries & the al100 charger. Being more than happy with the saw (although it has its limitations), I took the plunge & purchased the telescopic trimmer. The run time is a lot longer than the saw, easily an hour. Using this tool combined with a little tidying up in between, shifting stepladders etc. This tool + two batteries & the slow charger is easily on a par with my other ... read more cutters. It has a one year guarantee (two for the home user), & the quality you expect from stihl. Only downer is not being able to use it in heavy rain. Les noise, no petrol fumes & spillages & the customer pays to charge the battery. It just makes sense. Very pleased!

    WORKS LONGER THEN I CAN
Bought this trimmer after I'd used every other type, 2 cycle, string trimmer attachment, electric and now battery. It out performs any of the others I've tried and the battery life will out last me. I used it on full charge and after 2 hours of trimming it had only dropped 25%. Put it on charger and back to 100% in less then 30 min. The extended reach in very nice in trimming wide and taller shrubs. The trimmer's wider jaw width makes it very efficient on most bushes I've trimmed. I going back ... read more for other battery powered tools since fuel is such a problem. It's a little heavy compared to shorter, smaller tools but takes much less time to complete project.

    HS87R Great hedge trimmer
I had a 28 inch electric prior to purchasing this outstanding trimmer. What took me 3 or 4 hours to trim is now completed in less than an hour, without having to use manual trimmers and cutters on large branches. Great product, easy to start. I should have bought one long ago.

This Stihl Is as strong as steel
This is my first Stihl and also my first single sided hedge trimmer. The first thing I notice the handles a farther apart and when holding the unit it feel a lot lighter and it's a lot more maneuverable and since my hand is not in front of the engine like on the double sided blade unit I can see better. Another thing is on the fist job I had to trim this long hedge that was chest height when I was dome I noticed that I was feeling fatigue on my arms and not my arms and my back like I normally ... read more do. Performance wise Stihl spec says this thing is geared for TORQUE to cut overgrown hedges let me tell you I was cutting this over grown bougainvillea that I was taking like a foot in other places even more the branches were 1/2 inch tick and this thing cut it like it was nothing and I was holding the throttle about 20% this is a torque monster I have cut 1" tick overgrown hedges no problem with this thing 20% throttle or less is all I need. I you have to cut overgrown hedges this is the machine for you!
