Rated 3 out of 5 by from Once trimmer is started, does a fine job trimming. Purchased trimmer and used once. 2 weeks later when arriving at a job site, the trimmer would not start. Returned trimmer to the store and the carborator was the issue. A little disappointed that on the second use, trimmer failed to start and had to be returned to the store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing machine - should have bought sooner To say that this hedge sheer is incredible is an understatement. First, I am an average 52-year homeowner and an Engineer by trade, and I do appreciate high quality and well-engineered machines. I have taken care of acerage since I was 8 years old, so I know a good power tool. I have a gas Stihl trimmer, edger, blower, and chainsaw and all have been flawless for 10 years. Prior to buying Stihl products I threw away countless power tools from big box stores. After all that, I have come to this conclusion and here is how I look at it: if you need to cut or trim something, it does not matter if you are a homeowner or a professional. The fact is that something needs to get cut or trimmed, and you need the right tool for the job. So why mess around with cheap equipment that will only frustrate you and ultimately end up in the trash?Anyway, I always wanted to get a gas hedge trimmer but just always pained through my cheapo hedge trimmer, which always bogged down and never made clean cuts, but it never seems to completely die either. The worst thing about corded hedge trimmer is that I would basically cut a 100 foot 12 gauge extension cord every season, sometimes twice. I figured I have spent hundreds of dollars on extension cords to run cheap trimmer! Duh, this makes no sense. Anyway, I just cut another cord last week and that was the last straw. I also had to remove a 25-foot white pine with a 10” trunk so it was the perfect time to buy a hedge sheer, so I bought the HS56CE. Shout out to the fine folks at Worcester’s in North Ridgeville, OH!This machine is amazing. I first cut back all the pine branches in 4” – 6” increments all the way to the trunk to a height of about 6’. This process makes it easy to rake it up and bag the pieces. This sheer ate them up without breaking a sweat. Easily cuts branches that are 3/4" thick, so I was able to cut back all the branches within about a foot of the trunk. Then I felled the top of the tree with my chainsaw and then diced up all the top branches on the ground with the HS56CE. The protective tip is brilliant because I was able to dice up the branches by running the trimmer along the ground in towards the trunk with no worry of ruining the blade. I filled 10 lawn bags with all the diced up pine branches! It was so easy and I did not even break a sweat, nor did the machine! This trimmer is powerful with power to spare, it is quieter for sure than my older Stihl machines, and the EZ start makes starts quick and easy. I also feel the machine is very well balanced. I used the Stihl sap cleaner on the blades to get the sticky sap off, which accumulated quickly from this very sappy tree. I should have bought a gas hedge sheer years ago and I feel so stupid in hindsight for not having done so. As a homeowner, I cannot imagine needing more power (I almost bought the 82T and am glad I did not because that would have been overkill, but wow that is a beautiful piece of equipment too). This machine basically paid for itself because I did not have to pay someone to haul the tree clippings away or pay for a chipper because I was able to easily process the tree myself. Trimming my shrubs was like a religious experience. You cannot possibly go wrong with the HS56CE. Buy once, use forever, that is what Stihl products are all about in my experience and they are worth every penny in power, convenience, comfort, and effectiveness. Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from couldn't be happier I am only a homeowner, but I have a lot of property to up-keep. so glad I went with the 24 inch bar as opposed to the smaller homeowner ones. starts, runs and cuts like no hedge trimmer I have ever owned. I would recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for trail trimming or home yard I bought this two years ago when I bought a Stihl 250 chainsaw and use both for trail work in southeastern Michigan. This trimmer is light enough to put on a rack on the back of my mountain bike to take into the area I'm working in. It cuts everything in it's path up to 3/4 inch saplings. I use it like a scythe (I wear safety chaps) and it will run for over an hour on a tank of gas. I also use it to trim the shrubs at home and I can easily do them all in an hour when it used to take me two hours with an electric trimmer. I follow my dealer's advice and only use ethanol-free high-octane gas. No problems starting or running, ever. I use a lanolin spray cleaner from my dealer after each use. Haven't needed to sharpen it after 40+ hours of use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lemon I own a commercial landscape company. I love Stihl products, with one exception. I used the 45s for many years. I decided a couple years ago to upgrade to the more expensive 56. I do like its power and length. It has been unreliable from the start. I have brought it in numerous times to try to repair. It works for awhile and then it becomes unreliable again. I will not purchase this again, but I also dont want the smaller 45. I need a big one that is reliable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HS 56 C fuel pick up issues HS 56 C worked great at first. Within the first 2 months the two units I purchased had issues - acted as if starved for fuel. One local dealer won't carry on their shelves due to carb issues. Had mine in the shop several times but was told it was fine. Personally I feel the carb has a fuel pick up problem or the gas tank is too close to the cylinder head and is creating a vapor lock. I never had this issue before on other Stihl Hedge trimmer models. One minute the unit worked fine, and when you put it down and gas it up, it started the problem of just idling on the ground but not running full throttle. I used fresh gas with Stihl oil to ensure that was not an issue creating this problem. The air cleaners was clean, the exhaust screens was clean and the plugs were clean. I own a lot of Stihl equipment; this model is a lemon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, a trimmer I don't have to replace after one use. My husband wants to by a grass edger by stihl I bought a gas hedger that almost lasts the whole time on one tank. Being a tiny female it sometimes takes me a few pulls to get it started, but once it's going it starts up every time I stop it. If it could weigh only a pound I would have it made. Next buy us a professional lawn edger.
