Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best maul I’ve used Well Built. Nice weight, heavy enough to split the big logs but light enough to not tire you out. Solid handle, metal sleeve keeps handle together if you miss. Definitely worth every penny

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid Powerful Tool My wife purchased this splitting maul for me as a Christmas gift. I knew I would like it when I got it. but was amazed at how well it performed. It split through everything I had (Oak, Poplar, Willow) as if it was butter. One strike was all it took and most logs did not even require a full swing. The handle protection design is phenomenal and even with a missed strike the the handle was fully protected and no vibration was felt in the handle. The only improvements I could suggest would be a better sheath to protect the head during storage or transit, and the paint on the handle did make it a little slick. Overall I am very please with this tool and cannot see going back to my old maul. Well done Stihl.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PRO SPLITTING MAUL Costs the Price of QUALITY! I've heard some dealers grumble about the price of Stihl Hand Tools, but it comes down to this...YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR ! Ochsenkopf (Ox Head)- produced steel tools are made of high-quality German steel...a wise vendor choice by Stihl. This maul will hold an edge. Grab the handle and appreciate the hefty girth and shape. That, in itself, will reduce your percentage of overstrikes, but in the event they happen...a steel sleeve is there to protect your handle. You won't find these features on cheaply-produced products. This maul may not fly off the shelves, but it won't fly out of your hands either! Just to be clear...I am not a dealer.I bought the Pro Splitting Hatchet primarily to pound wedges while felling, the Pro Splitting Axe for chopping small-to-medium rounds, and now the Pro Splitting Maul for opening up large rounds. My cheaper substitutes will go out in the next estate sale. I'm done using junk!Just look at it this way: This maul costs less, per pound, than you'll pay for jumbo prawns from your local grocer...and, it won't contribute to water & sewer bill the next day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great go devil Excellent go devil the best I’ve ever used in 25 years busting wood. My only complaint is the price but it is a high quality tool I know several people that have this same one and they all say it’s the best they have used

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Splits good but handles are not that great I'm on my second stihl splitting maul, first one I had for a day, it split firewood fine until it came to pounding wedges, first swing I took against a wedge the handle broke clean off right at the head due to bad grain orientation, they were good about giving me another one when I took it back, second one was better, got about 1 year out of it not pounding any wedges, 1st time I went to use wedges with it again the handle cracked just slightly, but again with the grain due to the way it was make. And I did not overstrike on any of the wedges, overall it's a good splitter tho and has power

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maul of all mauls This is my second Stihl axe. My first purchase was the Pro Splitting Axe, but wanted something heavier/easier to split big 24"-36"+ rounds. I knew this would be perfect, after witnessing how great the pro splitting axe is. And it didn't upset. There's no round that this maul can't conquer. 36" rounds of oak are no problem now and it can even split bigger, especially when working around the outside and then working in. I had to get used to the long length of the handle, since be used to the Pro Splitting Axe. But that was a problem created by own self. After a couple of overstrikes with zero defects, I got used to the length and wouldn't want it any other way. I've had this maul for about 2 years now, and with a hand full of full force overstrikes, the handle is just as strong and the head is just as tight. There's virtually zero difference from when it was new till now, except just for worn paint on the head. Which is obviously inevitable and isn't a problem. I'll out split a hydraulic splitter any day. High quality and super reliable. Worth every penny and I would recommend it to anybody splitting their own firewood.
