Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good saw for the job it was purchased to do. I bought this saw for my bride as her first saw. It had one purpose and that was for it to start easily and for her to start limbing while I worked on the butt end and we'd meet in the middle. Our dealer set it up with a 12" bar. In one year it has worked perfectly, never failed to start by the 3rd pull and has never stalled. The way our timing works is that by the time we meet up, she is into around 10" diameter material and it works fine for that. It's processed around 40 trees in the last year and when she's not with me, I love using it over mine as it's so light weight! When it finally dies, I would replace it with the same saw as it works great for the smaller stuff. The only thing that bugs me about the saw is getting the side cover & chain off, what a pain!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One saw for every tree! This saw does everything I need on 10 partially wooded acres, from brush to 24" diameter trees. Starts quickly, cuts way beyond its engine size with huge torque, light weight for handling between cuts. Best Stihl and best saw I've used.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor power, not worth the high price. I did a fair amount of research before buying this saw. I was looking for a lightweight, high quality, easy starting saw, with the best power to weight ratio I could find, and was willing to pay the higher price to get these features. Unfortunately, this saw does not have the power I expected. It bogs down quickly if you apply even modest pressure while cutting at full throttle. The dealer said the power would improve after about 10 tanks. I'm now at nearly 20 tanks with little or no improvement in power. Considering the high cost of this saw, the value is poor. I believe my brothers MS180 cuts better and was a lot cheaper. Although not a professionaI, I have experience with several different Stihl saws, the MS201 being the most expensive and least powerful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good light weight saw that is easy to handle Great little saw, light and easy to use. Starts easy and has good power. Keep your blades sharp and this baby will cut like butter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 201 is a great lightweight saw I volunteer each week cutting up and burning invasives in forest preserves. I drop and cut up trees from 1-14 inches, for hours at a stretch. My 261 is too heavy. I had a 192 that was light…the reduced weight does make a huge difference. But I wanted some more power, and the 201 has much more power than a 192. Now I have lightness and power. The 201 has a heat diverter by the carb for cold weather running (I work in sub-freezing weather and starting is no problem at all.) I’ve never had to move the adjustment screws. The clutch is on the OUTSIDE of the sprocket - it looks weird but it works fine. I use a Stihl carbide chain. It's nicer than a standard chain, but is not magic. I use a lightweight polymer bar too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst piece of equipment I have ever owned I have had nothing but issues with this for years. Rarely starts when you want it to. I use non-ethanol gas.I spend more time trying to get this started then I do actually using it.Going to see if I can get $25 towards any other chainsaw.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A good idea, poorly executed The idea of this saw seems like a good one; a lightweight, small, professional quality saw. It lacks the power necessary to do any serious cutting, and the anti-vibe systems prevents you from applying any leverage while cutting. It is an overpriced under-performing saw.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice saw but ....... Having higher expectations, I would rate it somewhere between average and good but gave Stihl benefit of the doubt since I like to use their products:Had a MS 200 for several years which barked with power for a little saw. The time came when I had to unfortunately finally retire the MS 200 learning it was no longer available and replaced by the newer MS201. I bought the MS 201 and after 5 min of use realized it was shy of replacing the power of my MS 200. Wish I could buy up a few discontinued MS 200's and squirrel them away for a rainy day while the tree huggers continue patting themselves on the back for new emission standards. The specs. indicate this saw to be more fuel efficient but if I have to run and rev the saw longer to make the same cut what are we really accomplishing?
