MS 251 WOOD BOSS® is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 297.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is a good all around size saw I have used several types and name brands of chainsaws and own several of them now. From the standpoint of someone who has been outdoors all his life and cleared thousands of acers ( mine- friends- and familys) Srihl and Husky saws are the top dogs for sure. As far as my newest saw the MS251 Stihl it is a lightweight easy start powerful mid size saw mine has been in the shop once due to the clutch was installed wrong at factory and the shop took 2 1/2 weeks to get it fixed, but since then I have had no issues. I have cleared about 2 acres with this saw so far, on my 5th gallon of fuel. I run Stihl mixture with 91 octane fuel in most of my saws ( I own 17 now plus I have a barn full of old no-running ones). Now my ISSUE with this saw - the design of the saw makes it hard to quickly clean around the oil cap while in the field the little lip around the cap catches dirt and grime. This is where I normally use a paintbrush and clean the area before refuelling because of that lip I have to pour fuel on the brush to get the grime out before opening the cap. The design of this saw needs reconsidered by the Stihl manufacturing company as with all other Stihls with this issue. All in all it is a good all around saw and a perfect size for most jobs around the farm. Dependable and easy to use easy start and lightweight great little saw for the homeowner just watch getting all that dirt - woodchips - and grime inside the oil tank.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from MS 251 WoodBoss Thumbs Down I purchased my WoodBoss MS 251 about 2 years ago. It probably has 5 hrs on it as I bought it as an investment for emergency type situations and light use around the property. My issue, and only issue is the oil pump will not oil properly. There is not an adjustment for the bar oil, which is a shame, because the chainsaw it self runs like a champ. The chain is dull and discolored due to the lack of oil and is now at a Stihl dealer getting an evaluation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what i expected I purchased a 251 right after they hit the market (I think) approximately 2 years ago.. It replaced an Echo dinosaur and i've been very pleased with it since the purchase. After reviewing some of the less than stellar reviews here, i felt compelled to say my piece. This saw has gone through about 150 hours of use and its running better than new. I use Stihl oil and high octane fuel (92 or better). Regarding the complaints about it not starting or wanting to not stay running, I couldn't disagree more. From a cold start, it takes one or two pulls on full choke until it tries. Then half choke and one pull usually does it. Mine is not the easy start model. Bottom line, if you're doing light to moderate firewood processing, this is a good saw for a homeowner. Of course i'd love a bigger saw/bar, etc., but for the price this is the one to get.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome saw! So being a former residential logger i refuse to use anything but the best saws. My husky 055 is just out dated heavy amd sweats power all over the place. So recently i purchased this wood boss 251. I must say... Im pretty dang impressed. I got the easy start with the toolless chain tensioner... (Huge plus) and first day i ran it off and on about 4 or 5 hrs clearing brush trimming trees... This saw screams. It will eat anything the bar will cross. And cold start is easy. For those of you having trouble. Ill tell you. Step one: full choke NO gas... Pull till saw tries to start. Step 2: Move choke to open. While holding throttle (easy if you use your foot to hold down saw and push throttle up.) Pull saw till it starts. This Might take couple tugs. Havent had single starting issue. Be sure air filter is cleaned regular or starting is a nightmare (as with most larger saws).. Saw is light and powerful and easy to get comfortable with so dont let it get away! Comfortable is great untill it bites!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Starts Great, Runs Great, Cuts Great I had an old 025 and needed a new saw. I bought the MS251 at the local Ace Hardware. Upon getting it home I had a hard time starting the saw and kept flooding it. I read the manual about starting and did exactly like it said and now it starts great, cold or hot. I use the saw to cut firewood for my wood boiler and it does a great job. I have used about 10 tanks of fuel so far and have had no problems. I do wish I would have bought a bigger saw as some of the wood I cut is pretty big for the MS251. Overall great saw once I followed the starting procedures in the manual.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great when it works This saw is awesome...when it works. This saw is so hard to start that by the time I get it to stop dying I'm too tired to cut anything. I literally have to pull the rope sometimes a hundred times to get it started, and its new. I hope this gets easier as it gets more broken in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy start is too easy Haven't used it a tremendous amount so far but so far I am very pleased. And Stihl doubles the warranty when you buy a six pack of oil.
