Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good saw, better price. Best bang for your buck! Wonderful saw, bogs down occasionally on large dry and hard timbers, but by letting up pressure it will cut right through. I primarily use this saw for bucking firewood, and I have only good things to say. It always starts within 5 pulls (even during frigid days) and hardly ever stalls at idle (once warmed up). Highly recommend to do light felling, and bucking. Absolute workhorse!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Service This product probably has more power than what I will ever need. I never used a chain saw before prior to this one. So I have nothing to compare it too. The errors I have encountered have probably been to lack of knowledge on how to properly cut or use the saw. I've had a few issue with the chain and the saw actually working, but again I believe it has been user error, and not product malfunction.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from First and last time Stihl purchase We heat with wood so I don't buy disposables. I've always had 2 chainsaws on hand, one larger and another a more medium sized. My smaller finally bit the dust so I thought I'd try a Stihl because people who like them seem to really like them. The MS 271 seemed to fit the bill. I've had issues starting it from the get go, sometimes flooding or othertimes I'd get it started but it would only run if I kept my finger on the throttle. Then the muffler came off and wouldn't stay on from then on. Tried locktite but still wouldn't stay on. Took it back to the dealer for the muffler problem and the issues I was having keeping it running because I couldn't adjust the carb myself; Stihl apparently now requires a special tool they don't sell to the public to adjust the carb. The muffler problem was fixed but not the issue I have keeping it running. This saw was only in its second season of use and I've had more problems with it than my other saw that I've had for somewhere around 20 years. Got rid of it, took a pretty big hit, but live and learn. I thought I was safe giving Stihl a try; maybe I just got a lemon but I'm not buying another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Engine has enough power to drive the 20” chain without bogging. I own 4 Stihl chainsaws and this one is best by far. Not intended for light duty since the machine is not lightweight. Best used at waist level or lower.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Saw was under powered and chain did not handle the load Used on medium sized shrub and it would not cut past the bar.Thought the chain was on backwards. It wasn't. Saw would spin and spin at bar width. Girdled the tree but would not go further. I pulled out my electric chain saw and it walked right through the stump and two others before an already low battery needed recharging. I can highly recommend the 40 volt battery powered chain saw. The Stihl Farm Boss gas saw, not so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work great Had one small problem was cutting when the chain jumped off after placing it back on it jumped off again. The second time a small piece of metal was found along the bar guide. I have no idea where it came from but worked great after that. I am confident this was a oddity. Live the saw.
