Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like butter This saw is just right it has terrific power which translates to letting the saw do the work and it will!!! I have one huge regret with this saw and its that I put up with mediocre saws so long before buying this one!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great saw A good amount of power for the weight. The vibration absorption features are very nice. The tool free fluid caps save time as well. Perfect for small to medium firewood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great saw This is the premier saw in the Farm and Ranch line. The Farm Boss is a workhorse as hundreds of reviewers will attest. I have run several of these and always found them to be reliable and powerful enough for most cutting jobs. If you are serious about a saw that will get a LOT of use, I urge you to look at the 261CM in the pro line. It’s got a better power to weight ratio and I have found the M tronic system to be very reliable. Again, the Farm Boss is a very good saw. But if you like this, for a bit more money you will REALLY like the 261CM.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unimpressed! Power and quality not what I expected. I’ve ran this saw for about a year now. Overall experience... very unimpressed. I have 2 Poulands I purchased from Lowe’s that perform just as well for 1/2 the price. I also have a Husqvarna with similar specs as the Stihl but it significantly outperforms the Farm Boss and basically just cuts better. I’ve changed the bars on my other saws, but it was after many hours of operation, however I had to change the bar in the Farmboss after usuing only using a few times. Not sure the Oiler keeps up with the saw. Been like that from day one. I will not purchase another Stihl product. Way over priced, but they do have effective marketing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Survived a lot of work! I've had my Farm Boss for one year. I own a small 23 acre farm located on the side of a mountain (Blue Ridge Mountains). My lower half is pasture, but it borders dense woods. I use my chainsaw pretty consistently. (A massive, two-day windstorm with 70+ mph winds just took down 9 trees.) The Farm Boss starts every time and, frankly, I did not winterize it because I used it all winter. The only problem I've experienced is, what I believe, some warping of hard plastic pieced under my chain guard. I've experienced a problem with tightening the chain, starting the saw, and having to retighten it again within minutes. Absolutely could be operator error, though. I strongly recommend this chainsaw, but get the more aggressive chains, they cut wood like butter!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from "NOT" Easy Start Back in Oct. with a hurricane approaching Florida I decided to replace my worn out entry level chainsaw. After a lot of research I decided on the Stihl MS 271 FARM BOSS. After the storm I could not wait to use my new chainsaw. It said it had "easy start" starting. NOTHING could be further from the truth. I could not start this chainsaw. To make matters worse, there was no customer support. You see the electricity was out for days. The store I purchased it form was closed for days. And Stihls customer support is located in Florida, so they were not at work for days either. Many times a day I would read the manual and try to start the chainsaw. Finally after days of pulling my arm was so sore. I developed tendonitis that lasted for 4 months. So basically when I needed the saw the most, this Stihl saw just sat "STILL".A week later I took it back to the store and embarrassedly asked for someone to show me how to start the chainsaw. He started it and then proceeded to high rev the saw for several minutes. That was something that the manual warned against. Said it could damage the saw until it was broke in. When I questioned him on that he just laughed. I have owned the saw for about 5 months now and I would say its 50/50 on getting it started. Sometimes it starts with no problem. But half the time it still will not start. I keep thinking I will figure it out one day, at least I hope so.When it works it seems to work good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong saw for the money After about 1 year with this saw I can say that it is worth the money. Starts without any drama. I don't make money or heat my house with it, so I can't say I need anything bigger or more expensive. With the 20" bar it will cut every tree in my woods. Typically I've been running this as my felling saw and then clean up with my 193T. This saw could be a little lighter and it is better with my 18" bar. The vibration seems very low compared to the saws I was running back in the 90's on my parents farm. We had some storm cleanup in my neighborhood and my neighbor was out with his much bigger saw. I felt a little size envy until 30 min of cleanup with mine. Then I realized how much I don't want to lift those bigger saws.
