How to Clean Your Gutters

Debris build up in your gutters can block the proper flow of precipitation and lead to potential problems with your roof, foundation and basement. Keeping your gutters clean also helps you avoid damaging ice and snow buildup during the winter months. The right STIHL tools and the proper technique make this task easier and more effective than the old-school – and potentially dangerous – approach involving a ladder, manual tools and a hose.

STIHL helps you clear your clogged gutters with our quick and easy-to-use gutter attachment so this task can be accomplished on the ground without a ladder. With more than 10 feet of extension, this series of plastic tubes attaches easily to your STIHL handheld blower. For use with BG 55, BG 56 C-E, BG 66 L, BG 86 and BG 86 C-E, this kit reaches most residential gutters and is designed specifically for removing leaves and debris.

Follow these simple tips to keep your gutters flowing strong all year long:

1. Adjust the nozzle tubes to blow away from you to avoid being showered with debris. Blower tubes should always be angled forward.

2. Be careful to use only the amount of power needed to remove debris from your gutters. You will have to use slightly more power to remove wet material.

3. Maintain complete control by holding the blower properly and the tubes firmly. Work from end to end to clear the full length of your gutters.

4. Don’t forget to always wear eye and hearing protection as well as gloves when you work. To maintain proper use, always follow the directions in your product instruction manual.
