Arden Cogar Jr., 2011 US Champion

SALEM, Ore. (Aug. 30, 2011) – The STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series presented by Ram Trucks returned to the Oregon State Fair for a second year Aug. 26-28, 2011. Under the warm Oregon sun, Arden Cogar, Jr. from West Hamlin, W.Va., chopped and sawed his way to his fourth STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series U.S. Championship victory. Cogar beat out seven U.S. competitors for not only bragging rights, but the opportunity to represent the United States at the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series presented by Ram Trucks World Championship in Roermond, Holland Sept. 3-4, where he will take on the best competitors from around the world.

The U.S. Championship offered fans plenty of excitement and intensity. In Friday’s first round, the U.S. pro competitors competed in two pools of 10, racing the clock and each other in the six lumberjack disciplines, the hot saw, single buck, springboard chop, standing block chop, stock saw and underhand chop with the top four in each pool advancing to Saturday’s Championship round. Despite a disqualification in the stock saw on Saturday, Cogar remained vigilant and persevered.

“I’m extremely humbled and honored to have performed as well as I did in the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series U.S. Championship,” said Cogar. “I went into the event with no expectations after disqualifying in the stock saw. I didn’t give myself much hope, but instead of lamenting, I shrugged my shoulders and laughed and had a wonderful time.”

Other U.S. competitors, including Matt Cogar, Branden Sirguy, Jeff Skirvin and Warrick Hallett, will make the trip to Holland for the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series World Championship team relay competition. In the relay competition, four representatives from participating countries face off in a four-discipline race featuring the single buck, standing block chop, stock saw and underhand chop. The U.S. competitors who advanced were determined based on who posted the best times in the respective disciplines in the U.S. Championship. The pro competitors representing the U.S. are Matt Cogar in the single buck, Arden Cogar Jr. in the standing block chop, Sirguy in the underhand chop, Skirvin in the stock saw and Hallett as the alternate. The U.S. team placed second in the world in the 2010 team relay competition.

Joining the U.S. professional competitors in Holland will be our U.S. National Collegiate Champion Daniel Jones from Hayward Community College in Clyde, NC.  Daniel will travel overseas to participate on the international rookie relay team and has earned a spot as a professional competitor in the 2012 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS season.

New Zealand and Australia’s national competition were also held at the U.S. Championships.  Jason Wynyard sealed the top spot for New Zealand and Brad Delosa finished as the top Australian competitor. During the overall cross-country STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series Championships at the Fair, Wynyard outscored the others, giving him is 10th overall victory, winning him a 1500 Ram Truck and further securing his dominance in the popular international lumberjack competition. Wynyard and DeLosa will also advance to the World Championships, each representing their respective countries.

About Ram Truck Brand
The Ram Truck brand continues to establish its own identity and clearly define its customer since its launch as the newest Chrysler Group LLC vehicle brand. Creating a stand-alone brand for Ram trucks has allowed the brand to concentrate on how core customers use their trucks and what new features they'd like to see. Whether focusing on a family that uses its half-ton truck day in and day out, a hard-working Ram Heavy Duty owner or a business that depends on its commercial vehicles every day, Ram has the truck market covered.

For 2011, the Ram Truck brand added the hardest-working Ram trucks — the Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks — to its already award-winning truck lineup which includes the rugged and reliable Dakota, the Ram Cargo Van, Ram 1500 – the most-awarded Ram truck ever – and Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty pickups.

The 2011 Ram 1500 was named a Consumers Digest Best Buy and AUTOMOBILE Magazine All-Star. Ram 1500's smooth-riding suspension and 20 mpg, 390 hp HEMI V8 are just two of the reasons it beat the competition. Ram 1500 was also named the Truck of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA).

The Ram Truck brand has the most innovative lineup of full-size trucks on the market. Ram Truck has emerged as a full-size truck leader by investing substantially in new products, infusing them with great looks, refined interiors, durable engines and features that further enhance their capabilities. Ram trucks now boast these segment exclusives:

•    Coil spring rear suspension on Ram 1500 for best-in-class ride and handling
•    Available RamBox® lockable and lighted bedside storage
•    In-floor storage on all Ram crew cabs
•    The largest cab in the market – Ram HD Mega Cab
•    Standard six-speed manual transmission on all diesel models.

Truck customers – from half-ton to commercial – have a demanding range of needs and require their vehicles to provide high levels of capability. Ram Trucks are designed to deliver a total package.
