When Richard Mangus started at STIHL Inc. about 40 years ago, the company only made one product: the
015 chainsaw. Today, STIHL manufactures over 275 model variations,
and Richard has progressed to a supervisor position. His current job is to oversee the full lineup of
STIHL shafted powerheads. This includes professional and homeowner trimmers and the STIHL
KombiSystem line of multi-tasking powerheads.
Richard has lived in Norfolk his whole life. When he was 19, he applied for a job as an
assembly line worker at STIHL and was hired on the spot. Through the years, he worked his way up
the ladder. He was promoted from assembly line to team lead, eventually moving to his current job as
a STIHL supervisor. He enjoys working at a company that sets high standards on production.
"STIHL expects a lot from each employee, but you get a lot back. It is a great feeling to know that the
company is truly number one in my mind."
He also appreciates that Mr. Stihl comes to visit the Virginia Beach facility at least once a year for a
"That says a lot about our company."
*Disclaimer: A majority of STIHL powerheads are built in the United States from domestic and foreign parts and components.
