Welcome to the 29th season of the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series! This past year was a success again as the premier event in professional lumberjack sports and we have no intention of slowing down as 2014 is already shaping up to be another great year.

The 2014 season will see some changes to the competition format. There will be 4 Professional Qualifier Events taking place around the country at the end of May through mid-June. These stand alone events will include a Western Qualifier, NorthEast Qualifier and a combination event hosting the MidAtlantic & Southern Qualifiers. Each region will include 10 athletes for a total pool of 40 competitors. Due to the limited number of MidWest Professional athletes, the region will not have its own qualifier event and athletes will be placed in one of the other regions.

The top 5 Pro athletes from each region will move on to a national championship venue in late June and seeded into two pools of 10. The top 5 from those pools will then move on to the Championship round of 10. The top US chop/saw competitor and a relay team will advance to the World Championship competition. In 2014 the US Championship venue will again include an Individual Championship and Relay Championship.

The collegiate events will still have all 5 Regions and will take place as part of the regular Conclave schedule in March and April. The top collegiate athlete from each region will be invited to the National Championships in June. We will also select 7 wild card athlete for a championship of 12 collegiate athletes.

We are also excited to announce that the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series Professional events will be broadcast on the ABC Network in 2014. This move to a larger and more visible network promises to display your skill in this unique sport to a much larger audience of fans across the country. The collegiate events will continue to be broadcast on the ESPNU Network.

As always, we want to ensure we produce a competition that is exciting to fans and fair to you, the competitors. Thanks to the efforts of Granite State Lumberjack Shows, JM Associates and our Career Sports and Entertainment, we believe this format will invigorate the competition and will deliver a fair and exciting event that will continue to recognize the best athletes in the sport, while providing up and coming athletes a chance to break in to the Series.

As we have for the past 28 years, selection of STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series competitors will be coordinated between the Granite State Lumberjack Show staff and our competitor advisory group. As the US STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series events will determine the overall US National Champion, only US athletes will be selected to participate in this year’s competitions. Applicants will be ranked as we have in the past, and then divided up with ten athletes per region based on ranking and home location. This will be done in order to balance the competitor talent in each region, while attempting to minimize travel for all competitors involved.

Please see below for more details, as well as the application to participate in the 2014 competition. As always, to the greatest extent possible, we have scheduled this year’s event to avoid conflicts with other competitions.
