How did you get involved in lumberjack sports?
My father competed on the Colby College Woodsmen's Team during
the early 1960's and competed on the pro circuit for many years
afterwards. He was a very good in the underhand and other chopping
events.
When did you begin participating/competing in lumberjack sports and the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series?
I began competing in lumberjack sports when I attended Colby
College and joined the Woodsmen's Team. My first major contest was the
Lumberjack World Championships during 1992. My first year on the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series was sometime during the late 1990's.
How do you train for the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series and other lumberjack competitions?
I'm an avid runner. I often run up to 5 miles a day before most
people have breakfast. I also enjoy Olympic lifting and kettlebell
lifting. When time allows, I chop and saw as much as I can.
Are you related to any current or former STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series competitors?
No.
Best/strongest STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series discipline:
My best discipline is the Underhand Chop. My strongest discipline is the Hot Saw.
Any advice for the collegiate competitors?
Get good axes. I may know someone who can help you with that.
What pro athlete/celebrity would you like to see try one of the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series disciplines?
I would enjoy watching Sofia Vergara do just about anything.
