Rated 5 out of 5 by trimmer used for personal yard work - great product! Got this trimmer as a Father;s Day gift. Have an older house in a rural area & a LOT of weeds, saplings, brush, etc. This trimmer has taken care of all except saplings. Am getting the rotor blade attachment soon to get those. Our property never looked better. It is a pleasure to get out & keep everything in place. A friend who is a professional suggested the Stihl - so glad I took his advice. Best trimmer I ever used. Probably be the last one I'll ever need. July 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by easy starting I used STIHL trimmers for many years. This new one has a different starting feature that is great as long as it keeps working. It trims different than my previous one and feels more powerful. I believe that I will get used to it as I use it more often. I do a lot of fence line trimming and when I hold it correctly it clears growth faster than any I have ever used. July 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Most powerful homeowner model Finally decided to spend a few extra bucks and have a model for my personal use that I hoped would be close to what a commercial contractor would use. This is it!!!Yes about 50% more than the off brands the big box store may have but this thing starts when you say start. Runs when you say run, even after sitting through the winter, and is much more comfortable I use than the bent shaft models. You won't regret it July 12, 2014

Rated 3 out of 5 by Hard to start when cold This is the hardest trimmer I ever owned to get started after it has set idle for a few days. Once it's started and run a bit, it starts easily, but when I try to start it between mowings, it is virtually impossible to start. July 11, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by unfortunately had to return it Very light. I liked the housing and how I could rest my arm on it when trimming. It also kept the heat away. The trimmer head was easy to advance and add new line. The factory line did break more easily than my last trimmer. I am about 6'1" and would have liked a little longer shaft. Starting was an issue. It would stall out before I could grab and blip the throttle. Once it got going I couldn't let off the throttle or it would stall. When warm it took multiple tries to get it started first without choke and then using it. Trimmer ran very rough and had lots of shake and vibration at anything but full speed. My hands were numb after using it with good gloves on. The housing would be black from oil after each use even when I knew thee oil/gas mix was spot on. I went to check the spark plug and pulled the plug boot off slowly and the plug wire broke. That was it. After just over 30 days of problems and multiple trips to the dealer & a call to the factory I returned my Stihl FS 70 R and received a full refund. I see a lot of Stihl trimmers in use by individuals and professionals in my area so I must have gotten a lemon. I purchased another brand and when it goes I will consider a Stihl again. July 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Machine Tired of buying a trimmer every other year from the big box stores that doesn't ever run right. That's were I was when I bought this machine. I have 9 acres and this machine tackles anything I throw at it. As a home owner and not a pro I expect it to last many years. July 1, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Very disappointed I bought a new stihl FS70R about a month ago. I only buy stihl products for my landscaping business. I must admit that for the first time I am extremely disappointed with a Stihl product. It produces an extreme amount of oil residue that builds up not only on the trimmer but on everything it touches. It also stalls out if I have it on idle for more than 10 seconds in between trimming spots, once I get to the new spot and I hit the trigger. It has done this since day 1. I was told I need to keep the trigger down while walking in between spots. I am also on my second spark plug because of this oil issue. I only mix with pre-measured 2-5 gallon Stihl brand oil which is used in all my equipment, with no other issues. This is starting to happen more frequently each day. I am open to any suggestions. Is this a defective product or am I missing something? June 27, 2014
