Rated 5 out of 5 by Good power for woody material up to 3.5" Due to the fire danger of fuel build up, I bought a FS310 to clear the sagebrush from under the pine trees on 20 acres. For clearing brush, this machine beats a chainsaw due to three things; no more bending over, no more throwing chain, and only 22 teeth to sharpen!I was torn between the FS310 and the FS250. My dealer talked me into the FS310. This is my first 4 mix machine. I am very happy he steared me this direction. The machine has plenty of power and fuel efficiency. For clearing woody stems it is nice to have the big chassis and vibration system. It'll take out 3.5" stems in one hit. If I move to the other side of the stem, I can hit it again and take out 5-6" boles. At 4480' mine had a slight low end bog. At the 40 hour valve adjustment, the dealer adjusted the carb to take care of that. Now, it's broken in and just plain screams! February 3, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Hit or Miss on Starting Very unreliable as it will flood upon starting about half the time it is used. When that occurs you can forget about using it that day. The bike handle is about worthless for use around any object. The line constantly breaks even when using different kinds. When that occurs you have to stop, take the spool off, and manually feed- very time consuming and self-defeating. Between trying to start it and stopping to feed the line manually my cheap Lowe's special is a more efficient use of my time. August 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Machine I wanted a higher power trimmer for both string trimming and cutting small trees. The FS 310 was more money than I wanted to spend but after the dealer showed the the features such as vibration dampening & full harness I decided to buy it and I have never regretted it!My home is 20 acres and I can spend hours trimming and clearing with the FS 310. The vibration damping is great along with the power of this machine. I am amazed at the size of tree I can cut down. This is my fifth Stihl product and I happy with each one. The quality is excellent. Rated 5 out of 5 by Stihl FS 310 Purchased to cut brush on 20 acres. This product does the trick. I have cut 3 1/2 " trees with this cutter. Has alot of power. I am cutting brush, small saplings, briars, thick vines of 40 yrs on family farm. My father has stihl FS 90 v. The only negative thing is the bicycle handles. I think they are too wide. I guess that I should do a Youtube video on the cutter. I did alot of research before buying this stihl product. the sales rep at local stihl dealer recommended the fs- 250. I did not want to go to small of a cutter. May 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful time saver Before purchasing, I was very skeptical about this product. After watching some videos of it in operation, I was certain that they had gone before and "pre-trimmed" the trees to make the trimmer cut faster for the video. I have other STIHL products and knew the quality would be good so I went for it. To say that we were impressed would be an understatement! This thing is a hoss and will save us a tremendous amount of time. We do not use it as a trimmer, but rather solely as a brushcutter for clearing fence lines and paths through the woods. It really does cut small trees quickly. Anything up to 1/2" it doesn't even blink, amazing. I've cut up to a 3" and you will have to cut on 2 sides but it sure beats running a chain saw bending over for several hundred yards of clearing fence! Another thing that I was worried about was backlash or kickback and warping the saw blade. We have used it for about 30 hours and this have not warped it yet and the kickback doesn't exist unless you cut on the side that is rotating towards you. I would recommend buying a 2nd blade so you can quickly change and keep working. Sharpen the used blade when it's dark out or you get back to the house. The machine is very well balanced and the backpack style (w/ shoulder straps) harness is a MUST. Zero fatigue after 4+ hours of continual use and none of that normal sense of relief to get the darn thing off like I have when I use my homelite weedeater. At first I wanted to go back and purchase a 2nd one but with all the time we are saving I don't think we could keep it busy. April 3, 2013
