Rated 5 out of 5 by POWER!!!!!!!!!! Look at the size of this thing! Don`t buy this because it`s commercial to use on your 1/2 acre property thinking you can do intricate trimming with it. Buy this and use it for what its designed to do! This thing is a beast that I`ve cut 4 inch diameter trees down with. Don`t be that guy that complains it`s heavy because it`s built to take a beating and last. It`s heavy and will knock down anything with the right blade on it. Free rev the engine and go to town on anything that's in your way. It`s overkill as a line trimmer and is not the best choice for lawn trimming.I`ve only used ethanol free gas and stihl oil in it, and it runs great. Again, look at the size of this thing, use it for its intended purpose. Owned for two years no problems. October 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Power! Slap on a saw blade and clear ATV Trails with ease! Powerful machine August 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome piece of machinery I have 4 acres to keep clear and this cuts through it all regardless of size and thickness! It's not as powerful as I thought the engine would be but I'm not complaining. My only complaint would be with the harness. Its comfortable to me but not to easy to attach or unhook the brushcutter. Rated 1 out of 5 by Very disappointed. With probably less than 10 hrs total time on it, my fs130 sheared the flywheel key, which was not covered under the warranty. I could have purchased 5 "lesser" trimmers for what I've got in this one so far. Very disapointed! July 24, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by engine bogs when throttled up I purchased the 130 after fighting with a cheapie trimmer for the last time. I bougjt the most powerful unit the local dealer stocked in our area. When the kid who worked there took the unit out back to start it up, he could not get it running after several pulls. I had a bad feeling then and even worse now. The unit starts ok now and idles good but when the throttle is pulled the engine hesitates and bogs out. It will only rev up aftet feathering the trigger. For the money it costs this machine should rev up instantly. Maybe its the 4stroke engine or maybe its a lemon but its going back to the dealer to be looked at. July 12, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by I hate my FS130 I hate my FS130! Won't stay running, misses at higher RPM! I had a Hobart that i had for about 10 years and it was more reliable then my FS130. I am so mad that I decided to spend the extra money and purchase what I thought was going to be a good weed waker. June 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great power, cuts everything! Had been fighting with an old 2 stroker for to many years, bought my first Stihl chainsaw a MS311 last year. Was so pleased with my saw I decided it was time to upgrade my trimmer. So very happy with this machine! Starts easily, the harness carries the trimmer with ease and makes for a pleasurable experience cleaning up my property, although I find it a bit restrictive when mowing my road bank, I kept the single strap sling from my old machine to do road banks and use the double harness for everything else. The 4 stroke engine is powerful and extremely fuel efficient, cut thru thick heavy grass with barely any bog down. Around flower beds it is easy to handle and delicate work is flawless due to the double shoulder harness.Used it in my neighbors pasture to clear brush and its performance was incredible. No question here, I'd buy it 6 more times. Love it! June 21, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by This product was a problem for me. Ist use the line continue to break. Replaced by dealer.2nd use replace head with SuperCut 29-2. Would throw the line out. Wish I could get my money back. Went back to head furnished with trimmer. Would not start. Returned to dealer and he had to replace the carburetor. Extremely disappointed. My FS96 and auto feed head lasted 40 years without a problem. I have a fairly new Kombi with edger that won't stay running.Other Stihl products include chain saw (2nd one), blower and pole saw. I have always purchased commercial Stilhl products for residential use thinking they will serve me for a long time. For the money I paid for this trimmer I expected more. June 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by low end grunt I haven't owned the fs 130 for long but I did use for the reason it was purchased and it cleared small saplings and pruned trees easily. Thus far it has started easily. I would easily recommend this tool to anyone looking for a strong clearing and pruning device. June 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great machine did everything I expected and more from a Stihl product. The back harness works great making it easier to use. Plenty of power to handle Great machine did everything I expected and more from a Stihl product. The back harness works great making it easier to use. Plenty of power to handle heavy grass and weeds using string. I have about 3000 feet of fence that I do and I get done in about half the time I use to. Easy to rewind the string and had no trouble out of the head. June 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by awesome Awesome!! Never felt the weight. Trimming tall weeds stooped over under trees not a proble. Never bogged down and cut thru everything!! I'm a 300 lb Guy and I could use this all day with no back issues. From what I have read, it should last 10 to 15 yrs. great product! Buy it. You won't be disappointed. Make sure to take the time to adjust the harness. June 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to start Easy to start. Great power. Light and durable. Good value. May 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Seriously I bought the trimmer based on the Stihl reputation for making serious products. I had been using a Craftsman Trimmer around the house, but I needed more power after inheriting more land. I chose this trimmer based on what I thought were my power needs. After getting it home and using it for a bit, I have determined its power to probably be overkill. The FS-110 would have propably been plenty for the type of trimming I would be doing. That said though, I will never have to worry about power with the 130. Ever.Starting is easy and the weight is not too bad considering. I just bought mine so I cannot attest to the long range dependability yet. The full harness is nice, but it took awhile to get it all adjusted. Throttle is responsive and it does not seem to be bad at all for delicate trimming, though I do definitely see a sweet spot at 3/4 throttle that would easily run away with you. The sound of the trimmer is distinctly different, I presume due to 4 stroke design.I bought the oil to extend my warranty to 4 years which is a sweet deal. Price wise, it is in range with other similar trimmers, maybe a touch more expensive. If you want a serious trimmer with serious power then seriously this is your guy. March 15, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by beats a chainsaw for small brush Cutting small/moderate size brush was the reason I chose this unit. Coupled with the 8" toothed blade, this outfit cuts easily w/o as much exertion as bending to use a saw. Doesn't wrap up in grass, either. Uses 1/2 the gas for equal cutting as my classic Stihl 011 sawUnit is expensive but I'm hoping it lasts as long as my previous Stihl trimmer--still going after 15-20 years. I'm hesitant to comment on overall dependability and longevity since the unit has less than 20 hours on it so far. February 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Trimmer! This trimmer is probably overkill for my 2 acre rural property, but I can swing it as fast as possible through thick, knee-height grass without bogging the engine down. It has plenty of power to take down saplings if needed. This thing starts easily, usually one or two pulls. It runs well and vibrations are minimal. I can run a couple tanks of fuel non-stop without numb hands or discomfort. The harness is worth its weight in gold. For a marginal price increase over the 110, it was totally worth it. Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is well built and a pleasure to use I've had smaller, non-Stihl models in the past but I figured it was time to buy the real deal. I was looking at the 110 model but decided on the 130 because I mainly want to use it as a brush cutter and it came with the bike-handle. With the smaller models, my hands were numb after about 1/2 an hour of trimming. With this Stihl, I was trimming and brush-cutting for 2-3 hours without any numbness - it was great. I've used it several times since then and have had no problems. December 7, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Beast It will handle what ever you throw at it. I wish they had a switch kit for the loop handle. I want the option of using all the gearheads and I will have to buy the pieces separately which means more money. Its not cheap to start with. So you need to have the FS130 plus:several type deflectors for the gearhead (3?)both handles setup correctly.fixed line head and the stock headappropriate brush saws (deflector / saw guard accounted for above)your choices in gearhead equipment in addition to the included glassesNow you are ready to seriously handle your property maintenance. Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT RUNNING ENGINE I just bought this trimmer. The engine starts right up 2 pulls runs soo smoothly and quiet. That is the good news. The bad is the power feed head! That is worthless. The line broke four times in 10 ft of trimming. If you like to take breaks to take the head appart to fish the line out this is for you.For me i switched to the 8 blade grass cutter, now I am very very happy September 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Plenty of power, great ergonomics Bought the FS130 to trim the fence rows and ditches on my farm. The double strap harness distributes the weight across both shoulders and the plastic hip guard, where the trimmer hooks up to, keeps the clip and trimmer off your pants. I bought a Polycut trimmer head and the grass blade with it. The Polycut head with the string line makes cutting a breeze. For heavier grass and weeds, the grass blade cuts right through with little effort. I bought this trimmer based on the past experience I've had with Stihl products. I have a Stihl backpack blower and chainsaw that have given my years of trouble-free use. August 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brush Cutting Beast! Moved from a subdivision to an acreage property a couple of years ago. My FS 36 and 38 have been awesome, dependable machines, great for my old 1/2 acre subdivision lot but just didn't cut it trying to knock down thick brush around my property so I purchased the FS 130 with an aftermarket brush cutting blade (MaxxiShredder) recommended by the dealer. I'm clearing bush taller than me with blackberries, thistle, grass, ferns, small trees, you name it. I cleared a 600 ft. by 30 ft. path on uneven, sloping ground in one day recently. I'm nearly 50 and in reasonable shape but this is work and I hurt like heck after a day like that but I couldn't have done it without a quality machine and blade like this. The FS 130 is somewhat heavy compared to the other trimmers I have but the harness carries most of the weight, it's engine is large so it burns quite a bit of fuel. In the day I mentioned above I went through at least 8 or 9 tanks of gas. The torque is amazing! It doesn't bog down much, a little bit going through small trees. It cuts through blackberries and thistle like butter. I haven't had the FS 130 all that long but if it's anything like my other Stihl trimmers and chain saw I'm sure it'll last a long time. For cutting thick brush I'd highly recommend this machine, if you're trimming grass around your house do yourself a favor and buy a smaller, lighter machine! July 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Supreme Machine FS130 cuts thru brush like it is to even there. Of looking at the FS110, I recommend upgrading for the minimal extra and get the more powerful engine. You won't regret it. Easy head change out for trimming action. July 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent product I have been through the expensive junk trimmers from the box stores. I have 1 acre that is surrounded by hay fields and barbed wire fence. I got this bad boy for trimming around the fence where the thick Johnson grass is. I was sick of all of the other trimmers bogging down. This one doesn't back down to any challenge. I would highly recommend this trimmer if you are finally ready to step up to a trimmer that will last forever and get the job done. I get my trimming done in half the time, with a quarter of the back pain. May 25, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Used Once! I bought what was supposed to be one of the best there is on the market and once home I gave it a test run that lasted about 10 minutes before tearing the line off at the head... my fault. ... and called it a day planning to do my whole place the next day. Wouldn't start for love money or starting fluid even after checking the plug. I'll stick with the throw away models if the dealer doesn't make this right. May 16, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great product for its size Great size and price of this model. I highly recommend this product for the homeowner who needs to clear out saplings and small diameter trees. September 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Adaptable for lefties with a little work I was able to "re-engineer" the handlebars, shield, and harness so that I could use it comfortably for more than 15 minutes. I probably voided the warranty because I had to carve up the shield pretty good. But the bottom line is that I now have a trimmer/edger that a lefty can use. My previous trimmer was a ryan that had plenty of power, and lasted 22 years on a 2 acre plot with 2 brush borders. I overhauled it once, and boiled and rebuilt the carb twice before I decided it had seen enough. I tried out 2 other cheapie trimmers and simply could not believe how little power they had with the same displacement as my ryan.So I went for better AND bigger with this one. I actually had to take it back the first day because I couldn't start it, which was embarrassing for a guy who rebuilds everything from cars to computers, and found out that I only needed to prime it until the first time the bulb was full of fuel, and to pull until the first pop on full choke, then half-choke to start. I realize this means it has some serious compression going on, as every other 2 cycle I've had requires a lot of fuel and a lot of choke to get things to fire. This is a well-built engine. Haven't had any issue starting it since. September 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great power easy starting I bought two of these trimmers to replace two of lesser quality that broke down this year. So far they both start on at least the second pull and usually the first. They are used heavily along a 20 + mile pedpath that is over grown with knot weed and other trash brush areas. No problems to date, the string feeds out and seldom jams like our old ones did on a regular basis. I would not hesitate to recommend these trimmers. August 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smooth, easy, efficient! The FS130 has been smooth, efficient and easy to use.I've used it to clear brush using the saw blade, and it does the work easliy and quickly. August 8, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent machine for the price and performance The manual recommends running the FS130 at half throttle for the first 3 tanks of gas. At half throttle the machine chewed up weeds and vines that were growing on my fence line better than any other I have ever owned. Cleaning 25 acres of horse fence with the bike handle attachment and shoulder harness was almost fun! August 1, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brush cutting machine I purchased this to primarily cut down over grown brush and small trees. This things chews up anything you put in front of it. I use the chisel blade and can cut through a 2" tree in seconds. The blade even works well in heavy thick grass. I sharpen it between tanks of gas and it just keeps cutting. This machine has so much power I am almost afraid of breaking something when I get to swinging it. July 11, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent trimmer, plenty of power This is by far the best trimmer I have ever used and I've used a lot of brands. Has plenty of power even for the thickest grass and brush. Definitely spend the little bit extra and get the fs130 over the others. I only paid an extra $30 for the fs130 over the fs110 and I'm glad, not that the fs110 is bad but it makes sense to pay the 30 bucks extra for the bigger engine and more power. Also glad I got the one with the bike handles it really saves my back. June 5, 2013
