Rated 1 out of 5 by Died on Third Use Purchased a new FS 50-CE near the end of April from my local dealer. I was tired of replacing cheap string trimmers every couple of years and based on the excellent durability of my larger Stihl trimmer purchased many years ago, I had high hopes for this little trimmer. I purchased a larger model simply because it claimed to be assembled in the USA while the lower priced models were made in China. The sole use of the FS50 -CE was trimming shrubs around my small lawn. The FS 50-CE was easy to start and seemed to have more power than the cheaper trimmers. My wife used it the first two times and she complained the trimmer didn't feed the line out well. I assumed it was user error. On the the third and most recent use, I began trimming. I also had difficulty getting the line to feed, so I re-strung the head with new line. Same issue, so I removed the spool and re-wrapped the line again. Fired it back up and it ran for 15 seconds and then died. I repeatedly tried to restart it and it would not. I sat it down in my garage and noticed it was profusely leaking fuel out of the bottom. It has been back at the dealer now for almost a week and I am extremely disappointed. I know failures are going to happen and maybe I was just unlucky or its a random part that broke, but I feel like they should have replaced this unit with a new trimmer being it was less than 60 days. At least the cheap trimmers lasted two seasons. Now, I am wishing I'd bought a different brand. June 24, 2016

Rated 1 out of 5 by Not reliable!!! Thought I was buying a Quality piece of equipment! Turns out I was wrong... First off the the bump head for line advancement doesn't work well. Next problem was the drive shaft stripped out thankfully that was under warranty. Just as soon as I get it back the pull start breaks and the cost to replace it was much higher than aftermarket or a competitors . But I bought anyways just because I believe in factory parts. When the back cover was removed to fix the pull start the rewind spring and plastic housing were broken. Needless to say it's in the trash for a piece of equipment that maybe gets used six times a year. I'll just buy a cheap one from the box store and replace it when it breaks with another cheap one I will be money ahead instead of buying over priced parts to keep fixing this STIHL!!!!! May 24, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Hard as Stihl I had read other reviews.....thought my own opinion might be valuable. If you desire the cheapest or least expensive...this is not your brand. If you have no mechanical ability this is not your brand. Buy an an electric plug in model or just hire somebody to do your lawn. I bought a Stihl because my father had a Stihl weed wacker for about 18 years and a Stihl chain saw for probably 12-15 years.i bought a 50-c-e. I am not disappointed. The first start of the year is more difficult than the rest I will admit but when I use it once a week it's one pull maybe two at the most three. She sounds like a race that lope of an aggressive cam on a race car and the dang thing will nearly cut wood! May 21, 2016
