    Hard as Stihl
I had read other reviews.....thought my own opinion might be valuable. If you desire the cheapest or least expensive...this is not your brand. If you have no mechanical ability this is not your brand. Buy an an electric plug in model or just hire somebody to do your lawn. I bought a Stihl because my father had a Stihl weed wacker for about 18 years and a Stihl chain saw for probably 12-15 years.i bought a 50-c-e. I am not disappointed. The first start of the year is more difficult than the rest ... read more I will admit but when I use it once a week it's one pull maybe two at the most three. She sounds like a race car.....got that lope of an aggressive cam on a race car and the dang thing will nearly cut wood!

    Gets it done
Had a fs55r that became problematic. With a $20 e-loyalty reward from Stihl to motivate me, I headed in to find a new one. Settled on the fs50c because I could be out the door with tax for less than $200. Power is great, but the curved shaft is a step backwards from the straight shaft model I was used to. Also, the trimmer head on this one is a pain. The winding feature works ok, but the knob sticking out on the bottom makes it more difficult to 'float' the trimmer when cutting big areas. It ... read more tends to catch and dig in. I may try to cobble my old Fs55 straight shaft onto this new power head. All in all, it starts on 3 pulls or less, revs quickly and gets it done around my house.

This is made for a taller man
I bought the FS50ce kind of by accident. I did not realize in the store this was the trimmer for taller men. I am 6'1'' and used to have a FS46 until ethanol gas wrecked it and I gave it to a friend. I went to the store just for a FS38. The store was sold out. I am glad they were out of stock. I am very happy with the extra 8 inches. I am also really happy with the easy2start and the choke system. Very good fuel economy as well. So far I have only run Stihl Moto mix in this trimmer. I have used ... read more it about 10 times now and my back is happy.

    Too easy
I ran out of trimmer line today, third time I had used the trimmer. I was curious if the replacing and winding of the line would be difficult. Directions were to cut 6' 6" of twine twice. I cut the plastic material and then followed directions.....I had the spool ready in a minute and back together ready for use in under 5 minutes. I adjusted the handle angle (I am left-handed) and now I find the trimmer easier to use. My old trimmer was a straight shaft, and the new one is angled. I am ... read more getting better with it each time.

    Thanks, Stihl!
I learned that if you buy this Stihl trimmer, you will not be sorry. I had a problem with my trimmer and the company went beyond my expectations to make things right. Somebody from Stihl personally reached out to me and could not have been kinder or more courteous. What a nice, unexpected gesture that I can't imagine many companies duplicating. As somebody who has been doing lawn care for 40 years, this trimmer is easy to handle and the easy start is nice so you won't dislocate your shoulder starting it.

    Easy start - everytime
What I like best about this model is the easy start. (My last trimmer was a good one, too, but my kid cabbaged onto it so I was left without.) With the Stihl name and the right price, this was a no-brainer. It goes through a little too much line for my taste but I'm working against a chain-link fence so what do you expect? I'll run a little heavier line next time and see if it can handle it. It idles nicely when not in operation, but you can certainly tell when the line needs to be fed ... read more because it sort of bogs down a little. Not an issue, just an observation. But back to the easy starting ... the WIFE even runs it now and then ... what a life! Solid product I'd recommend to folks I like.

Far better than the competitors electric rechargeable trimmer.
Purchased an FS65 electric rechargeable trimmer after wearing out 2 -18volt and 1 - 40volt Ryobi rechargeable trimmers. I mow and trim 2.5 acres and the FS65 performance is amazing. The weight is comfortable and it is well balanced. The straight shaft unit works best for my varied trimming needs - chainlink fence, flower beds, trees, pond banks, and concrete block walls. By the time the battery runs low on charge, I am ready for a break. Compared to the Ryobi 40volt single line feed the Stihl ... read more 36volt dual line feed with thicker and higher quality line, the FS65 has cut my trimming time by 1/3. The unit is substantially more expensive (too expensive) than the competition, but the difference in performance and quality is significant.

A delight to use with a couple exceptions
With the battery operation eliminating the need for a gasoline engine or electric cords, it is truly a pleasure to use the trimmer. I am having one major problem that is not addressed in the instruction manual. The instructions say to tighten the cap by hand when replacing the mowing head. When this cap is tightened, even lightly, the string line will not advance when the mowing head is tapped on the ground. If the cap is loosened several turns the line will advance; however, each time the mower ... read more head is tapped on the ground the cap tightens; and the line will no longer advance. I find that each time I wish to advance the line loosening the cap before tapping the mowing head will allow the string to advance. It would seem that there should be a spacer that would keep the cap from being tightened too far.

Very quiet and plenty of power for the average homeowner
I looked at various trimmer options including your gas models. I have some hearing problems so I was leaning towards the cordless units. Since I didn't want to deal with extension cords anymore, I eliminated the corded model. I purchased the FSA 65 and couldn't be more pleased. follow the directions and you won't be dissatisfied. You can trim early in the day and not wake up the neighbors!

    Fantastic Trimmer
I love this trimmer! It always starts, is easy and fun to use! It is light enough and the shoulder strap helps. I also got the easy to use head that you just put single pieces of string in at a time. I definitely recommend buying that with any trimmer no hassle of rewinding the string just pull the old out and put the new in! Definitely recommend this product!

    Great string trimmer.
Have been using this particular model 2 years on my weekend job and it's a workhorse. I found it very affordable as well. As for problems w line advancing, I've found cleaning the head w water periodically and using quality line is a must. Always use good 2 stroke oil and fresh gas as well. Just bought a new one yesterday for home use as I'm on 5 acres and have lot of weeds to cut. Can't go wrong w this machine. 2 year warranty is good as well. I recommend buying from a place that sell and ... read more services as well. No big box stores .

Great trimmer, starts easy ,runs strong.
Does everything I want, except feed line dependably. Wants to break off inside trimmer head. This still happens less frequently than it did with my old trimmer.

    Great for a home owner
This is a great piece of equipment for a home owner. I would highly recommend it to do just about everything. Sometimes it is a bit hard to get started for the first time after it has run for a few second it keeps running and restarts easily the next time
