Rated 3 out of 5 by Looks good, feels good, loose head. Purchased from my local Stihl dealer, took home and filed a sharp edge on it (great steel!), and began busting wood. Since everything I have at the house is already split, I was picking out some of the bigger ones and just giving them another split to try it out. In about five hits, the head loosened up. The wedge isn't loose, I'm not afraid that the head will fly off, it's loose on the bottom end where bottom of the eye contacts the wood. It doesn't look like this one had the complete "interference" fit all the way on the handle. I should have questioned it in the store, but I was in a hurry and didn't think twice about grabbing a Stihl product without inspection. Lesson learned. I'm going to shoot Stihl an email and see what we can do about it. Other than that, it seems like great maul, good steel, and a pleasure to bust wood with. January 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Value I had borrowed a friend's maul to begin splitting wood. It had a nice hickory handle and I had nothing to compare it to...then I discovered Stihl products and thought that it's time to buy my own maul. I thought, let's see if Stihl makes a maul comparable in quality to its yard tools. Wow! What a difference between average and Stihl. I would have bought the pro had the store carried it. It is fun splitting the wood, and it's very well balanced for effective swinging and splitting. What a great maul.Another winner by Stihl. November 25, 2014
