Rated 1 out of 5 by The "Quick Chain Adjuster" doesn't work I bought this saw brand new. After about an hour of use I noticed the chain needed to be adjusted. I tried turning the "Quick Chain Adjuster" but it was absolutely stuck. I brought the saw back to the store and they said it has to go to warranty repair. Too bad I needed the saw to remove several large trees across my yard. I wish I had bought a saw with basic features. July 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw for all jobs. It is such a treat to pick up the Stihl saw and have it start on the first pull. I have 2 "brand X" saws sitting in my garage that were used about three times each, then opted for an early retirement. The Stihl was a little more expensive, but good saws ain't cheap, and cheap saws ain't good. In the future, when I buy new small engine machines, it had better have "Stihl" on it prior to coming into my garage. July 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Long Overdue After too many years and several cheaper chainsaws from Big Box stores, etc I took my wife's advice: "Spend the money and get a chainsaw that works for you". I went with the Stihl MS251 and love the saw and appreciate the personal attention from the dealer. What do I like about it? Three things mainly:1. It works. All the time. Sounds basic but it's not true with other saws.2. It has perfect combination of power and ease of handling.3. Tool-less adjustment of chain tension. Along with this, it is super easy to replace the chain, or just get in there to clean out all the crud that accumulates while sawing. My initial use was to cut up a pile of old telephone poles in my yard from a previous owner. Over 85 poles. With a carbide blade, I am almost finished today and the Stihl chainsaw has been a champ. July 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect choice for homeowner Was looking at lower priced light duty chainsaws like Poulan but ended put with the MS251. Glad I went that route. Cutting through aspen and maple trees was like going through butter. Tightening the chain was simple with the external tightener. No more pulling the housing to adjust the chain.Got a little froggy and got it in to the dirt, which isn't advised. Had to pick up a sharpening tool and new chain to finish things up.Next on my list is the carbide chain. July 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Saw! This is my first Stihl saw. Years ago I bought a popular lightweight brand and more recently had one of the store brands. Last week I needed a chain saw to help get a fallen tree off a friend's boat house. My old saw ran for a few minutes and I made two cuts before it died and wouldn't restart. I probably had less than 20 hours total on that saw. I bought this saw this week and cut two complete trees down the next day. I know it's brand-new, but it never skipped a beat and the saw chain was cutting as well when I finished as it was when I started. The easy start feature is fantastic, and the tool-less chain adjusted was a big help. My old saw would never have let me finish one, let alone two whole trees in one day! June 22, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Everything you need in a dependable chainsaw! I purchased the Stihl MS 251-CE chainsaw as an upgrade to an Echo chainsaw I had. I fell in love with the Easy to Start feature. It takes some getting used to because it's easy to start the chainsaw even if you barely pull the starter rope, but with a couple of pulls, it fires right on up. It has great power, lightweight for its size, and fuel efficient. If you need a great chainsaw, this is the one for you. I also own a Stihl trimmer and backpack blower. Stihl products are amazing and are made to high quality standards. They are well worth the investment. June 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by easy to start This is my second Stihl chainsaw, I have a larger more powerful saw that I don't use as often because it is heavy. This saw is fairly light with a good power to weight ratio. When cutting larger diameter trees, >18" diameter, the saw can bog if you try to force it. i changed the chain to a rapid super and it is a beast. For the money, I would say this is a very good saw.
