Rated 4 out of 5 by Light and easy to use Compared to my ancient red one, this is a breath of fresh air. However, the oil pump for the chain was replaced after one tank of gas. Jury is still out if it is working properly. Easy to use, adjustable chain is a great feature . The shock absorber springs make it a breeze. Starts easily. I am 73 yrs young, live on 10 wooded acres. This saw should keep me busy for a long time. May 15, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I needed a small saw for the light cutting work, and this fits the task at hand. My workhorse is a Farm Boss, which is used for the heavy work. The MS 181 is a great lightweight saw used for a run of small cutting tasks. This saw idles great, reeves up smooth and quick, and cuts like a knife! Yes, it is underpowered as compared to the Stihl Farm Boss, but that is why I have the Farm Boss. The MS 181 is a very welcomed addition to my overall capability, and its several pounds lighter in weight, and it does the job well. For its size, there is plenty of power. I am quite satisfied with this purchase and recommend the saw as a lightweight saw that carries the reputation of a Stihl. May 11, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by underpowere ok saw for the homeowner whose main concern is ease of starting and doing very light work. I returned mine because my main concern is a saw that gets work done. Do not buy this saw for anything other than light work. The dogs(a set of teeth on the front on the saw) are a complete waste of metal. The saw is way to underpowered to use them. May 1, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by This product came highly recommended and does have some superior features BUT.... Before the completion of the very first task, the bearing broke and safety clutch stopped operating properly. To their credit the dealer fixed it as soon as I walked I the door. Today, for my second project I was trimming a tree and am having so much difficulty getting the chain to start without stalling that I'm heading back to the dealer tomorrow. On the plus side, EasyStart and chain accessibility are extraordinarily simple. I am hoping that the machine I have is just an atypical bad apple and the dealer will have the necessary courage to do the right thing. April 10, 2013
