Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Auger I have a horse boarding business and purchased the hand held auger over a tractor attachment for installing fences, and building new stalls inside my barn. I didn't have enough money to buy both an attachment for my tractor and buy the hand held unit (needed for building stalls inside the barn) so I went with the hand held BT 130 and couldn't be happier. I've put up 20 acres of new pasture fence (posts spaced 12 feet apart, and installed 20 new stalls in my barn (boarders were thrilled) using this bad boy and it sure gets the job done. The safety features on this auger are a MUST. I rented an auger when I started to update my stalls, and after running it for only 3 hours returned it for fear it was going to break my wrist when it hit a rock. Not only is the BT 130 much more powerful, but the safety bar in it stops the auger when it hits something too hard sparing you a trip to the hospital. I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't hurt when you hit a rock, the safety bar will leave some good bruises on your legs, but its much better than being laid up with a broken wrist. This is truly a farm tool that you can use all day long, and will be ready to use the next day, Stihl makes the best power tools. After using it for 7 or 8 hours it can start to feel a little heavy, but I have done the same amount of work as a friend of mine did with his tractor auger, and he was surprised how quickly I got my new pastures opened up. This can make a three foot deep, 6in post hole in 20 seconds (if you don't hit a rock). I do recommend a manual post hole digger and steel rod for getting out bigger stones in your way and clearing the hole clean after drilling it. July 5, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Auger brake lever is a very good feature but, I've had a few issues with the BT 130. The 4 screws (surrounding the drilling spindle) that attach the grip/frame to the powerhead loosened after just a few days of use and 2 fell out and were lost before the issue was noticed. The Stihl dealer didn't stock the same size screws. I replaced the screws and used Loctite. It's very hard to believe that Stihl wouldn't have addressed this issue!!The auger wanted to die at idle during the first few days of use. I adjusted the idle speed but it was still an issue, and I was even using the Stihl MotoMix for the first few tankfuls. It is idling fine now after a few weeks of use. June 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by back saver We are glad we purchased this auger. It blasts right through northern michigans sandy/pebble soil. We made quick work of 500 saplings..however didn't give it five stars because it stalled on us numerous times. Not that big a deal ,as it fired right back up with an easy pull start. Figured out that it was best to get it spinning before you touched the ground. May 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Get's the job done! We were a little worried that this bad boy wouldn't have enough power to get through the rocks but it's great! Make sure to bring a post hole digger and pike to get through the tough spots. Also, the quick stop brake on it is definitely needed or else it would break your knees! April 25, 2014
