Rated 5 out of 5 by IT Works with a caviet I just did a couple of hours worth of work with this attachment. It does do the job of cutting very well, but there are some issues. For high work it is great. For low work it is more than great. For up close right in front of you it is not quite worthless, as it cuts very well, but is hard to operate. In this application it is not well balanced. If I was going to do a lot of trimming, I would relocate the handle and strap mounting bracket of the power head to the shaft of the trimmer. This would partially cure the problem, but is not an acceptable solution. OK, YOU GUY'S AT STIHL PAY ATTENTION HERE... This unit needs a short stub shaft that would attach directly to the power head (or a pole extension)...Like about 6 inches worth... Yea yea, there might be an issue with using the accessory extension pole with double couplings, but again there is a simple solution.. ."""The accessory stub shaft"""!!! I have already looked at the cutting head, and the shaft coupler...What we have here is a NO BRAINER!!! My God people...Two torx screws on the cutter head must be loosened, the shaft removed, and the stub shaft installed. Re-tighten the torx screws, attach the trimmer to the power head and go to town!!! While your at it throw in an extra rubber shaft cover to keep dirt out of the original shaft and You would have the deal of the century... I WANT ONE... I want it so badly, that I am going to buy an extension pole and make it myself. Again this will be a simple task, but I am not going to explain the details for liability issues. Now get on it...This accessory will sell like hotcakes!!! In closing, High or Low...It's the way to go. A solid well built unit. I gave it a 5 star rating, because it dose the job it was intended to do quite admirably, and it would not be fair to down grade it. BUT IT SCREAMS FOR THE STUB SHAFT... It would then be A WORLD CLASS UNIT!!! June 15, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome trimmer I used one of these when I volunteered at a local State Park and liked it so well that I had to get one for myself. My main reason to get this was to clean up the briars and other growth along my tree line. It works great to cut down the wild rose, raspberries and vines, but also goes right through small saplings. I then saw that the drainage ditch had a bunch of tall weeds growing in it. I decided to see what it would do with grass. It works great for the occasional bit of grass trimming. After speaking with the Stihl representative, he showed me that the main difference between this and the power scythe is the base plate, and of course the length of the cutting blades. He also let me know that for the occasional ground use this is fine. I certainly will recommend this to anyone looking for something similar. May 9, 2013
