Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect occasional use trimmer i currently have about 20 Stihl products and love them all and this is another one that's great. All the negative comments I've read seem to be from people who don't have an awesome dealer like I do or they don't properly maintain their tools sure there is good and bad in all but best thing is always have good relationship with your dealer January 20, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by the right length for my hedge My trimmer is 6 years old. I purchased it new and was instructed by my dealer on maintenance and starting. It starts easily and runs fine . I always shake the unit to mix gas before I start it and before I add gas. I spray the blades with WD40 after every use. It is a great product and if used and maintained properly will give you excellent service. Every bad report I read indicated old fuel not mixed properly. January 12, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by unreliable Hard or impossible to start. Using new gas mixture with no ethanol. Dies or loses power when pulling trigger. October 21, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Hard to start I bought this to use at my personal house and rental properties. It has been hard to start since I've had it. You have to fight it to get it running . Would not buy again. I use stihl oil with ethanol free gas. I own some stihl chainsaws and they work great. Big let down. October 10, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Hard to Start. I have had this unit for several years now. I have several Stihl products, edger, string trimmer and chain saw. This is hands down the worst I've ever had. It has been hard to start from day one. I follow the starting directions per the manual which by the way compared to other Stihl products is a little different. It is to the point I just want to throw it in the garbage. The problem starting of this is a known problem and Stihl should have had a recall to fix it. July 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Runs and Trims Excellent! I Purchased this unit a few weeks ago and I couldn’t be more satisfied. It was a little difficult to start the at first, but after I read the starting instructions, it started on the second or third pull and has continued to start and run well. This unit has plenty of power as It has one of the largest engines in its class and is quiet with very little vibration. This unit cuts through bushes clean and fast. I have hollies, boxwoods, compactors, red tips, and azaleas, and it cut them all really well.I was frustrated at first with the fact that I could only purchase the Stihl brand from Stihl authorized service center, but I found that the salesman was very knowledgeable about the product, and even took the time to show me many product features.I highly recommend this model to any do-it-yourself landscaper who wants a reasonably priced home trimmer with the features of a pro model. Rated 1 out of 5 by Stihl makes quality products... This is not one of them. I have not used this to trim as it took 50 -60 pulls to get started, Thought well it's the first start so waited till it cooled down and tried again... 30-40 pulls to start.Once started it wants to die when trigger is pulled, Seems to strain to get the blades moving as if the engine is not big enough.Took it back and ordered the HL 90 commercial model we will see if it's any better? Rated 1 out of 5 by Hard to start and will not idle When I first purchased this trimmer it performed ok after I finally got it cranked. After using it 3 times, it not only became hard to start but it would no longer idle. If I can get it started now, I have to run it wide open. I have replaced fuel lines, primer bulb, and an intake gasket. I keep the filter clean and only run VP 94 non ethanol fuel in it. I would suggest that you upgrade to much better model. I own many Stihl tools. However, this trimmer will cause you to consider another brand if you've never owned a STIHL before. March 1, 2014
