Rated 5 out of 5 by The 4 stroke engine is awesome power is great, doesn't load up if you are doing lower rpm fine trimmer work like some 2 stroke weed eaters, good balance, Great fuel mileage, burns about 50% less gas then my previous 2 stroke weed eater. 1 of my friends has already bought one just like mine after using mine for half an hour. Rated 5 out of 5 by This trimmer starts up on one pull of the cord. Easy to use I would highly recommend this trimmer. I bought another brand and after 1 use, returned it. Would always just "stop" running. I've used the FS90R several times and it runs strong. The trimmer so far is very reliable. June 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Look no further. Stihl should be your next trimmer. Recently my big box store home owner trimmer died. I did a lot of research before making my decision to buy a Stihl. In the end the reviews, my previous experience with Sthil chainsaws, and having a certified Stihl technician at my dealer for any service needs made the choice easy for me. The dealer helped me choose the best model to meet my needs which ended up being the FS 90 R. The dealer recommended switching to Stihl synthetic oil and using premium fuel. I did this immediately when I got home and amazingly it made my blower and chainsaw run / start much better. Easy decision to make. I've used the trimmer now for several hours. It starts great with a couple of pulls. Starts right up with one pull after shutting it off for a while too. This was a hassle with my old trimmer. At first the FS 90 was a bit slow responding to the throttle and had a little vibration. After about 15 minutes of use the trimmer settled in nicely and is now very responsive on the throttle and has VERY little vibration. Plenty of power to cut through heavy grass and weeds. Easy to fill fuel tank. I've trimmed grass in the yard along fence for about an hour on one tank of fuel. The bump trimmer head works well. The trimmer line that came with the trimmer was old and brittle. I switched it out with Echo Cross Fire .95 line which worked great. From all the trimmer line reviews I read the Echo Cross Fire line was consistently one of or the top rated line. I would suggest adding fresh line of your choice immediately after purchasing. Overall a great trimmer. Starts easy. Well balanced. Built to last. Stihl dealer service. I'm confident I won't be buying another trimmer anytime soon. That translates into a great value in the long run. June 6, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by weak product longevity The FS 90 R is a good trimmer the first year or so, then the plastic parts in the fuel system break down... the fuel bulb, and the block that it sits on ages and now the third year requires a rebuild of the carburetor... there are no parts available directly from Stihl and the online resources range in price drastically... I am one who maintains my equipment very well and put the equipment away with great care, my older Stihl chain saw lasted twenty years with normal maintainece.. I doubt that this trimmer will last five years. June 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just what I needed on my farm Dependable, reliable and powerful enough for what I need on my farm. It's tuff enough to get the job done. Pricey, but worth it if I don't need to buy another one three years from now. June 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by After a year of owning this is by far the best gas powered machine I have owned. I bought this to put a blade on and cut back alot (25 plus pickup truck loads) of brush at a house I purchased last year. After a tremdous amount of abuse is still runs as good as the day I bought it. It cranks every time within 2-3 pulls but most of the time on the first or second pull. May 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by durable, dependable, and powerful This is my second Stihl trimmer and I have had zero problems with either of them.(with the exception of having my first one stolen). My first was the 85 and it ran flawlessly for many years. Started every time with little to no effort even after long winter storage. Lowest maintenance trimmers ever. Only had to replace bump feed head once in about 3 years and spark plug once a year. Last year I purchased a competitor box store trimmer. It lasted one year, had no power, the bump feed was junk, and refused to start after only one winter. Just purchased an FS90R and I am in heaven. The power is back !!! I can finish my trimming in half the time and I am confident that every time I need it it wil fire right up. The slogan"Are you ready to quit playing with toys?" is dead on. All competitors products seem like toys by comparison. One thing that I would recommend is changing the company name. Since it says Stihl illiterate theives think it spells "Steal".... well at least that's the only reason I can think of. May 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by reliable, easy to start, and enjoyable to operate I own my own lawn business and have learned that Stihl products are very reliable. Have used other brands such as Echo but always return to Stihl. My last FS90R just died after two years of heavy usage. Was mostly satisfied with its performance with a couple of exceptions: - expected it to last longer than 2 years. Have had other Stihl models which have lasted longer. - sometimes wished it had more power esp. in tall weeds. Always started easily and ran consistently well. No vibrations to speak of and noise was at an acceptable level. I didn't mind the weight either even after using it for long periods of time. May 19, 2013
