Rated 4 out of 5 by works good but is too heavy and it lid is hard to get tight my unit does the job beautifully but is too top heavy when full. the lid is sometimes hard to get screwed down and leaks while in use. i'd like to see stihl engineer the spray tank to operate from below the blower utilizing a pump somehow..... Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for Mosquito Control This misting blower does it all. I have treated my yard once so far with Talstar P and I can go outside in the evening and not get bit at all! I know other reviews say the unit is heavy, but hey 4 gallons of water on your back and a backpack blower are not going to be the lightest thing to carry around. I recommend filling it up on a sturdy table or truck tailgate, and then slipping the straps on over your shoulders after you have started the unit. I can't wait to to use this for fertilization and weed control soon. This product is not cheap, but it will pay for itself this summer by not having to hire pest control to treat my yard for mosquitos. Make sure you use Stihl's Motomix for fuel on all of your Stihl products as this will extend the warranty. It has a 2 year shelf life too. Not bad!! August 10, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good product-needs some refinement. We bought this sprayer to control mosquitoes and biting flies. We have used it several times to mist concentrated garlic oil. Pro's- the machine appears well built, starts easily and blows the mist out a good distance. Con's- the machine is not inexpensive and the accessory pump and tubes to use it as a blower cost extra. This machine loaded with water has to be the heaviest Stihl makes but the harness is not as good a quality as comes standard with their BR600 blower. The supplied harness does not have a chest strap or the adjustable shoulder straps that I have seen on the BF600 blower. The weight and price of this machine justify the improved straps as well as the accessory waist belt to transfer some of the weight to your hips. I've ordered that for my machine but it has yet to arrive. I'd purchase it again but I'm already trying to figure out how to upgrade the straps. July 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by It appears this is machine is well put together I am one not to usually get on the computer and write a review but I felt the need with the SR450 mist blower I just purchased yesterday for mosquitos at my house which sits on 2.5 acres. Folks every year when we get a lot of rain the mosquitos would keep our family hostage in the house. I live very close to the Missouri river and I have a creek in the back yard. After using the product Talstar and misting the yard the mosquitos are gone. Now Sthil could have not been so cheap on the shoulder straps. They are to narrow for the weight of the machine when filled with water. Also they should have put a waist strap on the machine. This should have been standard for this machine for the price.Yes it is a heavy machine when chemicals and water in it,But man it really throws the product out there. I can't comment any further due to just purchasing it one day ago.. July 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful for small vineyard use I have a small organic winegrape vineyard on a steep hillside, with no room at the bottom for a tractor to turn around, so I am limited to backpack sprayer use. I used to use a manual pump unit, but was still losing the battle with Powdery Mildew. I recently got a Stihl SR450 as it will agitate the leaves, thus getting the sprays much more thoroughly into the canopy.Yes, the machine is heavy, but I'm not complaining - I'm so happy that it's a full 3+Gal tank (14L) so I don't have to keep stopping to refill. (It's something of a hike back to the shed to reload.) It's the same capacity as my old manual, so I am able to use the same quantities. Pre-mix gas tank outlasts the 3G chemical tank, so you needn't stop just for fuel.Unit is brand new, only used a few times, so I really can't judge reliability yet, but it has started with almost no effort every time so far.My only complaint is really a suggestion: it would be nice to have a longer air pipe going downwards so that you can aim the airflow more upwards from underneath - as is I'm blowing straight at the canopy - more upwards would get onto the backs of the leaves better. I know, then the thing wouldn't be able to sit nicely... June 25, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Serious commercial unit I purchased one of these last year to incorporate Mosquito control into my landscape business. It's a great unit with the exception of the weight when it's full of fuel & chemical, near 55lbs and top heavy. I wish they could have designed it with the tank on the bottom. Gets much easier to handle with less chemical. Otherwise it's a great machine, being as I'm a small framed person I'm getting the new SR200 which is smaller & lighter. May 9, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Gets the job done We use four of these on a daily basis during mosquito season & they work as hard as we do. Its a bit heavy ( about 54lbs with 3 gal in tank ) & awkward, but you can do the same job with 3 gallons of water as you could with a skip sprayer & 15-20 gallons of water. They always run great with little maintenance, we use only the Stihl Ultra fully synthetic oil as the exhaust screens will clog if you use traditional two stroke oil. The straps are very thin, for the price they should be as nice as the straps on the BR600 blower. As of this posting you cannot buy upgraded straps. Overall its a hardworking machine that gets the job done with less water, less chemical, and in less time making us more profitable. October 14, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is great to use. Makes money I bought this mist blower to add the service for my mosquito control business. Not only did it help the control of the mosquitos but it increased my business. Very easy to operate. A little heavy at first until the tank gets below 21/2 gallons. Love using it because every time I start the unit I know I am making money. Paid for itself in two weeks. August 23, 2013
