Rated 2 out of 5 Haven't had saw long but not a good first run Ran the saw through first tank of gas. When I filled it back up I wanted to tighten the chain. The nut was so tight I was afraid I would break it so I took it back to the dealer. I was told the mechanic had to break the nut loose with a hammer and a block of wood. I was told not to tighten that nut so tight but that was the first time I was going to adjust it. When I pick the saw up I hope I have better luck with it October 8, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by tougher than you can imagine After having owned this saw for a little over 3 mos. I couldn't say much more on top of what has been said in these reviews. Until Today. As a result of the Mid Atlantic storm this weekend I lost a good portion of a Bradford Pear. This morning after sawing it up and loading it on a dump truck I used the saw to trim away branches in the bed of truck to free up the roll up bed tarp. After trimming I placed the saw on the cab of the truck. And then of course I drove of with it on top. Five miles later I heard the saw slide across the cab roof. I was on the James River Bridge in VA posted speed 55 MPH. Had to cross the 4 mile bridge make a return trip and come back across. Saw was laying on the road edge. Hitting flashers, I jumped from the truck picked up saw and tossed it in the back. Upon reaching my destination. I pulled saw from the bed of truck . Only seeing scuff marks with no cracking of body or bending of bar. Placed the choke and pulled. STIHL RUNS LIKE A CHAMP! After sailing off a cab 8 feet high and hitting a concrete road bed at 55 MPH! with nothing more than scuffing?? ..BUY this saw! October 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Overkill for Most Growing up in a rural area we used wood to heat in the winter. I clearly recall our woodcutting parties. With even more clarity I recall splitting wood everyday after school to heat the house. With this in mind I set out to purchase a chainsaw, the first in my adult life. After reading reviews and doing some technical research I narrowed it down to 3 different Stihl saws. The rep at the dealership was more than helpful and he recommended the Wood Boss for my needs. Me being the buy a model up type that I am decided to go with the Farm Boss 271.From my first cut with the 271 I realized I bought way more saw than I would realistically ever need. The 271 made quick work of a 30' mesquite. Amazing cutting power, easy to use and handle. My only complaint is how Stihl describes their saws. Based on the descriptions on the website you would think the "homeowners" saws would not be adequate for weekend wood cutting. Stihl over delivers in every aspect. The moral of the story is based on my experience with the 271 even if you are a buy a model up type like myself, with Stihl I think you could actually go a model down from what you think you need. Rated 5 out of 5 by Hot Knife Through Butter I purchased this saw recently and have been constantly impressed with how well it handles. I am able to handle long cutting sessions with little fatigue. I always feel in control of this saw. It has plenty of power to drive the 20" bar and chain without bogging down. October 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by My 1st STIHL saw I bought the MS 271 with an 18" bar & chain one week later it was the soul saw I used it to take down and cut up an pecan tree that was 85' high and 41" in diameter. So as you can imagine I put it through it's paces, the only thing that went less than perfect was one chain derailment, and that was my fault when I got the saw in a slightly twisted high speed bind. It was easy and intuitive to re-install the chain and adjust the bar. I do have 16' of tree trunk laying on the ground that this 18" bar just will not reach through so I'll have to borrow my neighbor's MS 660 with his 30" bar.The power and performance of my MS 271 saw was superior to any saw in this size range I have used to date, it appears well engineered. One thing to pass onto you if you are considering this saw, I always ran out of fuel before I ran out of bar & chain oil, this is a GOOD THING. I would hate to ruin a chain or bar because it ran out of lube, It actually seemed that I could have run two tanks of fuel per chain lube refill, but I didn't try I filled both fuel and chain lube every tank of gas, as you should.I could only be more pleased if the saw was less expensive, but I know if I want a high quality saw that is well engineered I will pay a higher price... I would buy it again it's worth it! September 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by 1ST Stihl product This is my first Stihl product. I have owned other chainsaws in the past. I like the fact that the dealer preps the saw so it wont be a dud like some of the big box store saws.I was looking for a new saw and everyone I asked said get a STIHL.I picked the saw based on the dealers recommendation on my needs.I do run the premix STIHL non ethanol gas and oil so there shouldn't be any problems down the road from ethanol. The saw starts as it should, and has a nice sound to it.(LOVE 2 stroke engines sound and smell). I have felled and bucked a few medium trees on my property and it just works as it should.A little heavy (18"bar) but plenty of power. The anti vibration works very well!!A great saw and am looking forward to when it breaks in.This will NOT be my last STIHL product. September 4, 2015
