Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy Pappy with MS 261 20" Back in early spring I had lighting damage to several trees 30" big white Oak. I had MS250 Stilh chainsaw 18" which I have used for several years and is Still a great saw, but it was not big enough to do the job for these big trees. I went to my Homestead store in Cleveland Tennessee and checked out the New saws.and with the help from Mr Davis it did not take long to decide what saw I needed and the good people at Homestead did jut that. They showed me the MS 261 professional 11.6 lb 50.2 cc (3.06 cu. in.)... which they pointed out the weight difference in this saw compared to the bigger 13 lb saws and with the power of same as other pro saws this was the saw for me. This a great saw cuts through 30' oak with ease and handles great the less weight is just what Pappy needed one great "BAD BOY SAW" thanks again Homestead of Cleveland for helping me select the right saw. Rated 5 out of 5 by A lot of power! I Bought this saw recently and went to a friends house to clear some woods for him. I am amazed at how well this saw cuts even with stock chain-it just fly's through the wood. I had the dealer put the 16 inch bar on it instead of the 18 that came on it and this thing really gets through hardwood in a hurry and because I am getting old the weight was a big factor. If you need to have only one all around saw, this would be a great choice. I went with a Pro Saw as I feel you will get many, many years out of it. April 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Made replacing a stolen beauty easier to swallow I picked one up last summer after my 028 was stolen. Since then, the saw has done everything I've asked of it. I loved the 028, but find it hard to miss it at the end of a day cutting with the 261. The 16" bar is the best choice for balance, but I have tried a 20" bar in black oak and red maple with no problems. Mix goes a long way, starts in 3 pulls without fail, and leaves plenty of gas in my tank at the end of the day. Safe to say I approve of this saw. March 31, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Power of a MS290, with weight of a MS250 Awesome saw!!!! I live on a farm and wanted a dependable saw, this is it! I was looking at purchasing a MS250 or a MS290. This saw is the best of both worlds with a lot of extras. First off this saw has much more power than the previous MS260. What I liked was the HP of a larger saw and the weight of the MS250. The other benefits are well worth it such as, A full Magnesium case, a stainless steel muffler, heavy duty air filter, captive nuts for the side cover (cannot fall out they stay with the cover), and decompression valve. These are just some of the additions you get with going with a PRO series saw. The price is a lot, but after figuring out the pro to this saw it makes sense to step up to this saw. March 27, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best saw I have owned. I have a ms280 and ms290. My new 261 is lighter then my 290 with better power. It also has better vibration dampening. My back doesn't hurt like it did with my 290. The 261 has excellent power. I am a believer in you get what you pay for so I spent the extra money. It's worth it. You will have this saw for a long time so don't be cheap and save a few bucks on a saw that will not have the power or the resale value. March 26, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Plenty of power Was debating on going to the 362 but i decided to buy the smaller saw and I am quite pleased with the power to weight ratio. March 16, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Powerful, dependable, overall great saw The MS261 is my first saw and I must say it didn't disappoint. I have used the saw for lot's of firewood cuts this winter and it's been nothing but great. Just used it for 4 tanks worth and showed no signs of letting up. I would definitely recommend this saw.
