Rated 4 out of 5 by FC 90 straight shaft edger I work for a theme park in the landscape department. I'm on the lawn maintenance crew. All of are edger's, weed eaters, chain saws, hedge trimmers and backpack blowers that we have are Stihl. We recently got the newly designed FC 90 straight shaft edger. As far as recommending this product I would to a home owner but not to a professional. I do like the new design. The open face 45 degree blade guard is great. You can get into tighter spots and it doesn't clog up. the problem I have found is you can only adjust the cutting depth. With the old design you could not only adjust the cutting depth but you could also adjust the blade guard. Which is important if you are edging a lot of curbing. The other problem I have with the new design is the only way to grease it is to completely remove the gear head. the old design did not have a grease fitting but it did have a screw in the gear head that you could remove to add grease. I have also found that I have to change the blade more often and the new design uses more fuel. As far as weight it seams to be a little bit lighter then the old design but not much. July 11, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Higher maintenance cost Purchased new style fC 90 seems lighter and new deflector does not clog. Big problem is first week the screws that hold the deflector came loose and the deflector has already worn through and now it's A cost of $5.00 every month plus the screws. Also I'm using more edger blades because you need to replace them sooner because of the new head design will not allow you to use a full blade. June 29, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Edger I have a professional lawn care service and use this edger about 6 days a week. It starts on the second pull every time. As far as any problems with this model are concerned, there are none. My edger has been in use for about a year straight without any problems. I had to use it as a tiller on one occasion because my tiller broke down(not a still product). It is a tiller as well, who knew! I clean the air filter out with simple green and water mix (simple green is a degreaser)and blow the filter clean every week. Also I grease the head assembly to make sure it runs as it should. Quit buying cheaper models and buy a stihl. January 22, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by too soon to tell they asked me to review this product ive only used it twice ask me when the warranty runs out. so far though its quite lower rpms than echo , more torq than other models from various other company's including echo. the 2 cycle oil that they recommend for it stihl 2 cycle smell horrible when the edger is running, but it makes my other products that arnt stihl run smother. so far they have run well. both the edger and the chain saw model 460 rancher both operate to the dicription above but I use the edger more. Rated 3 out of 5 by Failed to start on 3rd use Took back to retailer after it failed to start. They changed the spark plug and it wouldn't start at the store. Left it for 3 days to troubleshoot. They did not find anything wrong but it started when I picked it up and it also started 2 days later when I went to use it. This was not what I expected from Stihl. NOTE: I did follow the starting instructions in the owners manual, I had fresh gas and used the synthetic oil they offered. August 17, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Everything about this product is great I've been using STHL for the last 6 years and will never buy any other edger. It stands up to daily use and has very little maintenance. It always starts on the first two pulls.Even tho the price is a lot more than other models, It is worth the investment.Any home owner could use this product around the house for years, instead of buying a new cheaper model every year or so. Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy Start!!! Easy to maneuver. I am a female and I purchased this model because I wanted something that would handle anything from easy to heavy duty and would would still not be too heavy to carry. The easy start feature and the padded handle was another 'plus' for me. I went into the professional line as I do have a nature preserve area behind my house and it sometimes needs extra power to maintain. It really runs smooth and does a fantastic job with little effort. My lawn looks better than a professional service now! Excellent quality. I am very pleased with my choice. May 19, 2013
