Rated 5 out of 5 by best choice of saws My wife bought me this for Christmas and it has cut down my cutting time by over 50% ...I sold my off brand saw and moved up ...the duel port muffler is extra power and let's the neighbor know my Stihl 660 is running! This cuts through 25 bundles of wood so fast its amazing...the .404 chain and 25 inch bar makes me smile every time I use it...a load of logs just seems to be a wheelbarrow size when this saw chews through it so fast! Thanks STIHL! May 26, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 Great Big Saw I purchased this saw to replace an old Husky 371 that was on its second rebuild. The Stihl is a little larger displacement and a little heavier than the 371. The extra power really shows. I can cut 4' diameter fir rounds all day long and the saw never hesitates. The extra weight was a concern but I hardy notice it in the forest.A couple of things that I really like about the Stihl 660:1) The chain stays sharp longer than any other chain I have tried2) The start/kill switch is a little confusing at first but it really makes starting the engine easy3) PowerA couple draw backs:1) This saw really burns up the gas2) Expensive July 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw I had my 066 for little over 7 years and its running as good as ever. I use too log for a few years before getting a new job. I still burn wood for my house and I use it every month. July 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product for the money> Bought the MS 660 Magnum to cut 40 to 50 inch red oak and pin oak. The power band is getting better now as after 3 months it is really beginning to break in. I don't believe a saw is at it's best until after 25 to 30 tanks of gas. Just my view on break in. Running conditions that vary help as well on the break period. I cut 30 to 40 cords of firewood a year. I know, not a lot to some people, but the 660 will make it easier and faster. I run a 25 and 32 inch bar, plenty of power to pull both. Easy to start and clean. Tip to new Stihl saw owners, watch your air filter and you'll be fine. Stihl has done it's part making a fine saw, a little maintenance on my part, this saw should serve me well. I've been cutting firewood for 40 years. June 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This chainsaw has a lot of power to weight ratio I just bought a m s 660 with 36 inch bar I put a skip chain for High rpm use it's it allows me to cut through the oak wood with ease I have used the other brands but I'm most satisfied with steel product's I have had steel chainsaws for 10 years some of them are high winding motors some have low torque you need to do research and decide what's best for you this brand will run true and strong as long as you maintain them maintenance is the key May 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent saw Professional user here and owner, this saw is one of the best saws in my collection for power to weight ratios. The 660 is a heavy saw but has specific purpose, and that is to cut big wood fast. It out runs my 395xp daily no problem. My 660 has minor port work and minor carb adjustments and is my favorite saw by far. May 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Work horse saw Have ben using the 660 for 5 or six years. switched out sprockets put modified mufflers with skip tooth chains. Gained a lot more rpm. Cut cottonwoods from 58 to 2inch ash cedar oak. reliability is great getting 3 to 5 years between rebuilds .We use these saws 5 days a week 8 hrs. a day -20 degrees to 105 degrees. As long as you do general maintenaince there bulletproof. April 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ultimate Saw! I originally had a MS390 with good success but wanted a saw with more power and faster cutting ability. I chose the 660 with a 28" bar and it's become my favorite saw. I added a factory dual port muffler and it woke up even more. I also use a stihl tach for precise carb tuning if needed. I found out a full skip-tooth chain works better with the 28" bar. I mostly use it for firewood cutting and clearing trees from storm events on my hunting lease. Torque is what I wanted and I highly recommend this saw if you need to use a 28" + length bar. April 22, 2014
