Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome A great step up from the "big home center" stuff. Light weight, easy to use, and cuts like a pro. For around the house and barn, this saw is perfect. #I don't cut firewood# It's amazing how much more quality you get for just a few more dollars! You will not regret purchasing this one. Best saw I have ever used. April 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Super Little Saw I really like the MS171. It is light and cuts fast for such a small saw. I cut firewood for myself and people in the neighborhood when they need help. The MS171 is the best saw for limbs I have ever used. I run Stihl MotoMix in it (jet fuel for saws) and let it fly. I also have a MS261, MS362CM, and the MS441 Magnum---all great saws. Awesome job Stihl! March 5, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great price & power What a great saw, works great for small jobs and after I use my MS362 for a take down for cleaning off branches and small logs. Put a 12" bar and go up in size of chain and this saw really rips! Also the side chain adjust is worth the upgrade alone over the MS170 February 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best saw i've ever owned After years of buying the cheaper imported chainsaws, I now know i'll never buy anything other than a stihl. The 16" saw works great for what I do, cutting down small trees usually 4-8" in diameter at the stump. This saw is perfect, as it's lightweight for crawling around and cutting over wide areas. It's got plenty of power and always starts up on the first pull. February 4, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great little saw I have an MS 310 and bought this for smaller clearing projects. This little saw rips right through the brush and the power it yields was surprising I would recommend this for a handy utility saw. I don't I will give up my 310 for cutting fire wood but it is a welcome addition to my tool collection. January 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic saw for the Price I just bought this saw last month mainly for cutting overhanging limbs, and brush around the house. so to break it in I started off with a dead standing pine which was 15 inch's in diameter, and aprox. 30-35 ft. tall. Was impressed with the performance. Next I used the saw to cut some firewood and can say the more I cut the better it ran. great saw for it's size. December 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A tiny powerhouse, a chain that cuts true, always starts, quieter than MS170 I recently got this saw for Christmas. I had an MS170 for close to a decade. It was an excellent saw to say the least. So good that someone else decided they needed it more than me. The MS171 is a homeowner saw that performs like a pro saw. I have cut many small hardwood trees down so the chain has already needed a touch up filing. So far one can of Motomix and one bottle of bar&chain oil has done about every frustrating task I needed it to. Had I not run out of gas I would have finished the giant elm (40"diameter) in my yard, but for as easy as it does the job I can take a break. Basically, this saw will bring other brands to their knees. I have used all of them. If you need a small saw and buy anything else you are asking for the trouble you get! My saw does not over heat, stall, or eat gas like a dragster. It always starts and with gloves on, is smoother than electrics running. Anyone who says these saws are no good in bigger timber have no idea what they are doing with a chainsaw, or no idea what they are talking about. I bought my first STIHL chainsaw in 9th grade. I started running chainsaws in 7th grade. I think I know by now a good chainsaw when I see/use one. December 23, 2014
