    A "David" of a saw
OK, let me say that I have an MS361 and that is one powerful saw, but can get heavy with extended use. The 171 I use primarily for limbing, but I recently bought a vacation house and took it with me last weekend. I took down and cut up some pretty thick hard wood and this saw did it (I had a sharpened chain!). Took some time when the wood was hard, but took all I could give it. If I would have had my 361 I would have used it in several instances, but the 171 did the job. It's light, relatively ... read more quiet (I always use hearing protection, chaps, gloves etc however), and easy to use.

Very Light weight and easy to use, lots of power
Love this chain saw. Easy to use, light enough, but lots of cutting power.. Make sure you read the manual and know how to start this saw. That will frustrate you if you do not know what you are doing. It is a wonderful product.

    Nice, easy starting little saw
I've had my ms171 for just over a year. It came with a 16" bar and chain. I recently swapped out the 16" bar and chain to a 14" and the difference was huge. Plenty of power by moving down to 14". Great for limbing and trimming up around the farm. One thing I have learned with all chainsaws is to use the canned fuel mixture. It will save a whole lot of headaches down the road. These modern 2 stroke engines absolutely hate ethanol. They start so easy using the premixed fuel compared to mixing your ... read more own using gas from the gas station. I have a Husqvarna 445 for bigger jobs and it is the same way with fuel. If you use the premixed fuel you will be very happy with your machine, otherwise it will be hard to start and have less power. Mine still starts every time with one or two pulls.

Great saw. Just right size and weight for homeowners.
I have had this saw for about 6 years and like it. It has great power and is lightweight. It starts easily and runs smooth. I used Homelites for many years and they were a great saw and tried many other brands over the years and now I am really impressed with this Stihl. I would buy again if I ever need to. I have never had any problems with the oiler to date.

    Best homeowner saw ever!
Worth double the money! Worth every penny, have been using stihl saws over 12 years best ground saw, Palm saw, chunking saw on the market. A few pesky minor issues easy solved with the slightest mechanical ability. The ms 250 is tough enough to be used every day by tree industry professionals!

    Best all around saw
I've been cutting firewood for over 40 years, used many other sizes and brands , and my favorite saw has been the MS250. It runs at a higher RPM so it's fast and fairly light. The only issue I've ever had is chips getting in the bar channel freezing up the chain but it only takes a couple of minutes to clean and back to sawing. Running 2 tanks is enough to make you want to take a break and makes a big pile of wood. I love this saw and wouldn't use any other. I only use high test gas as the ... read more ethenal stuff is bad and can clog the carburetor.

    Lightweight saw
I owned this saw for two years now. Lightweight saw, however it doesn't suffer on power. You can cut all day and vertually not be wore down when you are done. Good on gas. I use 92 octane and ultra oil. I also use Stihl bar oil. It's better to spend a couple bucks extra and use Stihl products than cheap oil. It starts right up, It's better for the money than the 170 171 180 181. No need to look any further, you can trust this for value and service. Just remember to always use 92 octane and good oil.

    best saw for the size
Purchased this saw at the age of 11 years old for my first saw until i was big enough for a larger saw. I'm 16 now and i can say that this saw has been absolutely AWESOME, its cut everything I have put in front of it and never once given up on me. I cut about 4 cords of wood a year to heat my house and sense i was 11 this thing has cut all 4 cords for 5 years and probably keep it going for another 5

    Great Small Saw!
In my opinion this is a far superior saw over the MS170/171 and 180/181 series with a lot more power, better bar, and the extra money is worth spending. It has a better bar and chain, not the mini bar used in the smaller saws. Starts on the 1st pull after choke when cold, and on the 1st pull when warm. Lightweight at only 9-1/2 lbs and surprisingly powerful for a non-pro saw. You can use it all day without getting tired Very fuel efficient. Absolutely no bar oil leaks, extremely easy to clean ... read more and adjust chain tension, and a great all around small saw for easy handling up to 14" stock. I use high test 92 gas and Ultra. I've cut larger hardwood and let the saw do the work without pushing it, and it worked great. I have a 026 Pro and a MS362 and while this saw is not pro quality, it is very, very well made and runs without complaint; a great value for the money and a great compliment to my other saws. Spend the extra couple bucks over the mini saws and get the 211.

    A quiet and powerful saw
We had severe thunderstorms pass through northwest Ohio last night (6/23/13) and I lost the top of my hybrid poplar tree. At 6:00 am on the 24th I was cleaning up the tree damage without waking the neighbors. The MSA 160 C-BQ saw was powerful enough to cut up 5 and 6 inch branches with ease and it was remarkably quiet. In an hour's time the clean-up was done and I was on my way to work at my regular job. What a great little chain saw! Thank you!

    Great Chainsaw
Purchased this as I had a couple trees and many large branches to removed from my newly purchased property. I'm not a fan of the smell of gasoline or the idea of breathing the fumes in. The saw it had the power that I needed, no emissions, and is so quiet. The running time is perfect with the Stihl AP-180. Since you're never running the saw continuously, you can get hours wroth of work in. Stick it back on the charger every time you take a break and you're good to go all day. I'm looking ... read more forward to using it for future housework as well as making it a necessary addition to my overlanding toolkit.

    Well made, quiet, strong
I bought this saw soon after it came out and am delighted with it. I do a lot of hiking trail clean-up, cutting out windfall trees and limbs and this saw is perfect. It is small enough to fit in a medium size back pack with plenty of room left over for the usual hiking gear and light enough to carry long distances relatively easily. It can cut through a dozen or more 8" to 12" logs on a charge with power left over for dozens of smaller logs and branches. It is light enough to hold one-handed ... read more straight upwards to trim overhanging branches with ease. No need for hearing protection and so quiet it is inaudable from a hundred yards away. The price is high but this saw is a gem and it is well worth it.

    Dealers are everything
The machine has worked with out any problems. One exception is just the operator not knowing the machine. The people at the dealer put up with me and explain what is going on with the saw so I get the picture of how it works. The easy start is the best system for starting it easy too.

First and last chain saw I will ever use!
I am a healthy 61 yr. old female farmer and I have never had the arm strength to start a big chain saw. I got the MS 180 C-BE and it is sooo easy to start that even I can do it. I just finished cutting and loading a pickup bed full of firewood that I cut myself!

    Great for the ladies
As a young woman, I find this saw is so easy to use. My 180c always fires right up even after sitting for months at a time and the easy pull start is great for a lil wuss like me. I often go out to my farm to cut fire wood and I've never felt like it was more than I could handle. Just the right weight and the safety features make the idea of using a chainsaw a bit less intimidating. The dealer gave me a basic maintenance refresher when I purchased and upkeep is fairly simple. Awesome chainsaw for a homeowner!
This chainsaw has plenty of power! The ease of starting and the chain adjustment is superb! I've used other chainsaws in the past, Stihl included, and this 251 C-BE is the perfect saw for a 5'5", 170 lb female with basic chainsaw experience! And if ya add the 2-1 Filing tool, your chainsaw chain will last three times as long, if you sharpen a couple times during heavy use! Excellent balanced saw
Had a HEAVY McCulluch saw for 25 years. Good saw but it would wear u out. This saw takes some getting used to the features but I love it already. I can cut all day and my back & arms aren't nearly hurting like with the McCulluch. The balance is also very nice, it lets the saw do most of the work.

The best feature is the Stihl dealer
I have used Stihl saws for many years and cut over 20 full cords of firewood each year. My local dealer closed and I had to travel 95 miles to Ward's in Dollar Bay, Michigan to buy my new 251 in February 2015. Not long after the the saw had a major mechanical issue which I am convinced was a fluke and not worth expanding upon. I returned it to my new dealer (who didn't know me from Adam) and, since it was Saturday and couldn't be serviced, he offered a replacement to used until my saw could be ... read more repaired. My point is that the most important decision in purchasing any piece of equipment should be the quality of their dealer network and in this case Ward's certainly "went over the top"! Most all of my cutting is around logging operations. This lightweight & powerful saw is perfect when stumbling through slasher piles and tree tops. I only need to use my old 038AVS for the largest of jobs. All features of this saw including starting and chain adjustment work great.
