Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw at very good price I've been using this saw about six months now and couldn't be happier. Most of my cutting is for firewood which we use almost entirely for our heat. The wood I cut is mostly hardwoods - oaks and walnut. I bought this saw after using an MS290 for a couple years, realizing I needed a substantial boost in power. The difference between the 391 and my 290 was incredible! The 391 is the most powerful saw in the farm and ranch line. I debated between the 391 and the 362, which is a pro saw. They have similar specs, the 362 has a little better power to weight ratio, but the 391 was quite a bit cheaper. The power on this saw is impressive. I usually run a 20" bar which balances nicely, but also have a 25" bar that I will run on occasion. I bought the 25" bar specifically to take care of a 180 year-old, dead, white-oak that came down on my property. I buried the bar into the 36" trunk and it tore through with power to spare. The saw always starts within the first couple pulls, and is easy to clean and keep running. I run ethanol-free, premium fuel and Stihl ultra oil and highly suggest avoiding the ethanol, even though Stihl says 10% is ok. The translucent gas tank is a great idea. I also check my saw on a digital tach every now and then, which for a few bucks provides great peace of mind. The anti-vibration system works great and I can work all day without my hands stinging afterwards. The only minor "downside" is there are saws with better power to weight ratio (362) but you gotta pay more 'em. If you aren't quite sure if you need a pro-saw, or don't want to spend quite that much money, but want something with pretty good power - the 391 fits the bill nicely. June 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw Bought this saw a while back and have run it through the gamut of trees from red oaks, maples (hard and soft), muscle wood, hickory, cherry, pines and even big vines. It has completely shredded everything without a hiccup. I am without a doubt thoroughly impressed and pleased. June 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by This is one powerful saw. This saw is even better than my 041 that I have had for over 25 years. It starts easily, and cuts like a demon. I like the compression release feature, the ease of maintaining, but most of all I like the power and the speed that makes wood cutting fun. June 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very impressed , been a Stihl owner for years Owned 031, 041, 044, ms360,ms441. Was hesitant to buy this saw but pleasantly surprised with the power . Went to a 20 inch bar and this little saw rips, also helped lighten the saw a bit. Great value for the $! Using it on small hardwood can't wait to hit some Tamarac and red fir up in the hills! Rated 5 out of 5 Dependable, Quality Chainsaw I live in the country with one dirt road in and out of the property. With 5,000 acres of woodland surrounding me, my Stihl never fails to cut up down trees on the road. Great product that fires when I need it. May 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by High rev. and lot of power = cuts like a hot knife thru butter I got my MS391 a few months ago and have cut down a ton of trees as i have to clear 300 trees for my new home. I would really recommend the MS391 because of its power , and dependability . Stihl has always made great quality saws . April 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by great saw This saw for the money has excellent power to weight ratio, we use ours to stump hardwoods, it has plenty of power for wood 20 inches and smaller. April 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding power Outstanding saw......If I were to find fault....which is difficult....the chain loosens somewhat quickly under hard use. In addition, the saw is heavier than what I remember in the store....but then again probably I'm older (68 years) than your average consumer. April 3, 2013
