Rated 5 out of 5 by High quality, hard-working saw I replaced a good MS 290 with this 391 as I had some larger trees coming up and my old right arm objected to the high compression cranking of the 290. I follow timber harvest cutting and use the tops for firewood, so a lot of the material is 10 to 20 inches in diameter. I also use a Stihl 260 with a 16" bar for the smaller limbs. I have both 20 and 24 inch bars for the 391 and the balance seems much better with the 20" bar. No problem with power for the longer bar, though. The saw is heavy if you are trying to cut small limbs and branches. It is made for larger material where the weight can work for you. If you are trying to decide between the pro 362 and the 391, the pro saw does have a pound advantage (less weight) as far as the power head goes. Also, the price difference between the two saws is not as much as it once was. Add the M-tronic carb system and you may want to give the more expensive 362 some serious consideration. Some have complained about the 391 being hard to start. I've not had too much difficultiy starting it as long as I catch the first "burp" and move the control lever to the partial choke level. It is easy to flood if you miss this first hit.The AV system is a great improvement over the older 290 model.I've used Stihl HP Ultra oil and non-ethanol fuel mix with good results.I've also found that keeping the chain sharp will throw chips not dust and the air filter stays cleaner. Howerer, don't neglect checking and cleaning the air filter. My 391 is about a year and a half old now and it is really a great tool. With over 100 reviews on line, about all has been said about it that can be said, but you won't go wrong with the MS 391. February 17, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Effortless Cutting Santa brought new 391 and safety chaps and helmet/ear muffs/ faceshield. Used first time mid Feb. Cut like butter, no strain, easy. Bought more than enough and glad I have the extra power.Don't buy too small. February 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Power, dependability and effecent I was looking for a new saw that I wanted to replace my old red saw. I looked at the Red ones and Orange ones. I noticed that the reviews showed a lot of flaws. I looked to STIHL knowing the saws were going to be a little more money, but heck if I only have to buy one saw for the next 20 years it should be worth it. I found it in this package. I was surprised at how easy the saw is on fuel and oil. I have a 20" Bar and cut all my own firewood as well as clean up trees on my land. No problems cutting through big trees. I will warn you, its not the lightest saw on the market, but as far as I am concerned one of the best.I am submitting this review after a year of using this product. February 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great power This saw is awesome. It has great power. I have a 20 inch bar and was using all of it. It almost cut's to fast for me.Had to get use to it. I'm use to using a 029. Also bought the chaps and glad I did. February 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw for the wooded acreage I live on Wonderful saw!!! Upgraded from a 16" husqv. Wow! What a difference more horsepower makes, and a bigger cutting edge on the saw. I use the 20" bar, 3/8" chain, rips thru logs with ease. Very glad I spent the extra money for this versus the 291 and the 311. January 29, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good, not great I got this to replace my old 038M. Once I get it running, it cuts well and does everything I expect it to. The hard part is getting it going. The dealer taught me the specific steps to start it and you MUST follow those steps exactly including the exact number of pulls on full choke. Any deviation from those steps results in flooding and a tedious procedure to restart. It has gotten better after several tanks of fuel. January 27, 2015
