Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw I've had mine for over six years and closing in on the 1000 hour mark. Never even changed the oil yet no issues starts +40 to -40 never skips a beat bar finally died this year after 10+ chains on a 24" bar. New bar and back felling/bucking. Might even treat the ol girl to an oil change this year. When your felling around homes and structures you need a reliable saw and this beats my rancher out every time. June 14, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by MS391 is a Great Saw if you tinker with it! Stihl needs to Do Something about how they 1st Run though! A LOT of BAD Reviews on this Saw, But I Figured out how to get them to Run. I've Messed with The MS311 (basically same Saw) And the MS391. Both BRAND NEW SAWS, Both had running Issues. Here's the FIX guys! Take out The Bosh Spark Plug & Put in a NGK sparkplug. Most IMPORTANT Take OUT the EXHAUST SCREEN OUT OF THE MUFFLER!!! Both saws wouldn't hold a good idle, and would fall on it's face as soon as you give it Gas. A LOT of Bad Reviews on Stihl saws all because of the muffler Screen. after that you'll have a GOOD Chainsaw that Stihl is known For.... June 1, 2016

Rated 2 out of 5 by IN THE SHOP AGAIN ? I purchased my MS 391 and been in the shop more than it runs. I brought the saw from a dealer that I have purchased from before. At first I could not get the saw to run. Went back to the dealer, saw started immediately by the service tech. Next day would not run, repeated process with same results. Three days later would not run and back to dealer--same results, only I was told I not was strong enough to pull starter cord. Next day saw would not continue to run, went to another Stihl dealer and that dealer had same result, limited running- pulled spark plug and replaced spark plug after using compressed air to dry out cylinder. Two days later- very poor running and back to second dealer, who pulled the saw apart and determined that was flooding issues and defective gaskets in the engine, Replaced everything and saw ran very well until sawing yesterday 3/18/2016, when the saw would not restart after I stopped to clear brush at my feet. Called second dealer from work site and was told to blow out cylinder to dry out the cylinder- no compressed air was available. A neighbor had same saw model and he was able to finished the job. Got home and blew out the cylinder with air and the saw started immediately.Who carries compressed air into the field (blowing out cylinder seems to be the solution) I have talked to professional people who use the MS 391 and they don't have the problems I do.I have been told that there will no more working on the saw at Stihl's expense.
